Erik A.

Miami Beach, FL

About Erik

I want to teach you how to express yourself through music. I've been inspired by music since I was young and have been involved in one way or another since I started piano lessons at age 3. I've been playing guitar for over fifteen years and written and recorded music for about eight. Whether you want to go into music seriously as I have, or just use music as a hobby and way to express yourself, I want to help you accomplish your goal.

*** Lesson Details ***
Each person is different and learns in a slightly different way. Having said that, there are certain essentials which must not be
ignored. If you've never taken lessons before, we'll start with the fundamentals, how to hold the guitar properly, make chords, build up finger strength, properly tune the guitar, know all the strings, and most importantly play songs. You will learn how to read basic music, but I can teach you how to play by ear too. Before we have completed our series you or your children will have basic knowledge of all these things and a desire to explore at least some of these aspects further.

For me, the most interesting music reveals the unique perspective and feelings of the person who makes it. Having conquered the essentials I will encourage you to be creative with your developing talents. I can teach you about song structure and I can teach you how to jam with your friends. If you are interested in writing and composing, I can help you with that too. We can take a look at your favorite artists and try to discover how they accomplished and perfected their sound. If you want to learn how to record I have a computer equipped with Pro Tools and would be glad to show you how to use it.

You'll spend time listening to me of course, but I hope to spend much of my time listening to you as well. If reading music doesn't inspire you we can focus more on learning by ear. It's up to you. You'll need your own instrument obviously, though you can leave it at home if you don't want to carry it back and forth. I have guitars here. I request that you purchase a book with text and exercises so that you can practice and study what you learn in the class. Even if you do not want to read music, you will need to know the neck and conquer scale formations and chords. We can choose the text based on your needs.

Lucian W.

Miami, FL

About Lucian

Lucian W is an alumnus of Berklee College of Music in Boston and former faculty member of the Hartford Conservatory. His vocal studies have been with Jacqueline Jarrett and David Baker in Connecticut, Jane Ellison at Loyola University in Montreal, noted operatic tenor Carmine Gagliardi in New York City, and Gina Moretta (whose students have included Gloria Estefan and Jon Secada) in Miami. He studied privately with world famous jazz guitarists George Benson and Chuck Wayne and has had a full time performing career of several decades as a guitarist, pianist, vocalist, bassist, arranger and orc
hestra leader.
Lucian believes that by sharing his enjoyment of making music with his students, he can give them confidence in other areas. That is because, in order to make music, they must go through a process of physical discovery through practice. They are then empowered by experiencing the connections between inspiration, work, and pleasure.
He performs, as a solo entertainer, an unusually wide ranging repertoire because of his versatility on guitar, piano, and vocals. Being an accomplished arranger with a vast library of charts also allows him to lead a ten piece orchestra as competently as a trio or quartet. He has performed extensively in New York, Chicago, Cape Cod, and Florida.

*** Lesson Details ***
I always try to make lessons as comfortable and enjoyable as possible yet challenging enough to maintain interest. I build lessons around the student's individual interests (specific songs or styles) so that he or she can learn the technical fundamentals in a relevant context.
My own curriculum is supplemented by the following:
Guitar: Hal Leonard Guitar Method, Aaron Shearer Classical Guitar Method
Piano: Alfred's Basic Piano Course , John W. Schaum Piano Course
Voice: Jeffrey Allen's Secrets of Singing, Nicola Vaccai Practical Method

*** Studio Equipment ***
Hardman baby grand acoustic piano
OptimusMD1600 electronic keyboard
Crate TX50D guitar amplifer

*** Specialties ***
- Singing lesson time is generally divided 50/50 between voice building and repertoire. I accompany vocalists on both piano and guitar, teaching the melody notes as they are sung along with the piano. Then, once the melody is learned, I often switch to the guitar with just chordal backing. The acoustic guitar is also softer than the piano and lets the singer hear their own voice better. For voice building, I use my own concepts plus approaches of famous voice teachers like Jeffrey Allen, Seth Riggs, and Anthony Frissel.
- I am very experienced performing all styles of guitar and can cater to the student's specific area of interest, whether it be rock, folk, classical, or jazz.
- With piano, I work on fundamentals of reading and technique. Learning basic harmony and chord construction starting with triads (3 note chords), the student can soon read single stave lead sheets (a form of music notation widely utilized by professional musicians) as well as the grand staff. This approach trains the ear and makes learning how to play popular songs much easier.

What I liked about Charles' teaching style is that he pushes, but in a very good way. My son took lessons with him, and a lot of times he can have teachers running in circles around him, but Charles was able to instruct in a way that worked very well and kept him focused.

Josue G.

Miami Beach, FL

About Josue

Hi, there! My name is Josue and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2004 and have loved helping my students accomplish self-expression, accomplish performance goals, and breaking through previous limitations. I went to Indiana University Jacob's School of Music and earned a Master's degree in Music in 2012. I'm a people's person and a caring person and my teaching style is patient, selfless, and informative. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

How will our lessons work? I customize them completely around what you want to get from them. Some student
s are focusing on the Classical genre meanwhile others want to learn how to improvise and play commercial music. Whatever artistic direction you want to focus on I can guide you.

Studying together you will benefit by developing a warm, deep and robust sound through exercises such as long tones, tongueless starts, overtones and mouthpiece exercises. We will also focus on instrumental technique by utilizing technical material found in etudes, arpeggios, patterns, scales, solos and many other sources. Reading music is key to performing on the saxophone so we will address sight reading and answer any questions you may have toward rhythm, time signature, rests and note duration. Articulation and time-feel is of the utmost importance when expressing yourself through the saxophone and we will grow from listening to and analyzing the phrasing of world class musicians. You will familiarize yourself with time feel through utilizing the metronome while playing and learning how to internalize it.

Through fun work and self-discipline you will feel so proud of yourself that you have learned how to communicate and speak your emotions through your saxophone as if it were your own voice. I can't wait to help you feel that gratification of accomplishment, see you on the other side in the classroom!
