Troy Visual Arts Lessons for Adults

I received my minor in art and design from Lees-McRae college. Abstract painting is one of my most favored art forms and I would love to help you get out of your head and let your brush do all the talking. Making unique, beautiful, completely you art pieces.

I have been teaching professionally for five years with both small children and adults in many different platforms. My students can expect to develop skills of sketching in paint, rendering objects realistically, color theory, color mixing, texturing and blending, and building contrast. I work with you, where you're at, and develop my lesson plans custom to your individual needs. My students and I always have a blast and make the learning experience fun.

Age-Appropriate areas of instruction include:
-Painting Techniques such as Layering, Mixing, Washes, and Glazing.
-Understanding Composition.
-Understanding Color Theory: Opposites or “complementary colors” on the color wheel; Painting with medium tones, so that highlights and shadows can be applied easily. Using multiple colors equals “depth” and “interest.”
-How to Mix Paint: Mixing using the palette knife, brush, on palette, or on painting.

I graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in June 2007 with a Master in Education (Arts in Education) degree. During my studies I worked in the framework of the Artful Adventures Program (Museum of Fine Arts in Boston), which provides object - based learning and hands on artistic experiences for elementary and middle school kids. My own research was about “Creative Insight in Practice" and "Acquiring English as a Second Language and Developing Self-Esteem through the Idiom of Art". I have more than a two decades-long experience in painting, drawing, printmaking and installation work.
