Hello!

I am an experienced teacher of 8 years. I specialize in teaching beginner and intermediate piano students. I absolutely love teaching kids, however all ages are welcome! My lessons are customized to the needs and goals of each student. We’ll begin learning songs from the very first lesson as we gain skills in note reading, music theory, ear training, sight reading, technique, and more!

I can’t wait to meet you!

About Rachel

I currently live in Michigan where I was born and raised, with my husband and two dogs. I began teaching piano while still in high school and have continued to teach in varying capacities since then. I am so excited to be able to take on more piano students and see their skills and love of music dev

Rachel was my piano teacher from middle school through high school, and she was always encouraging and focused. She is a gentle and patient, which makes her a great choice for young kids (or ultra-sensitive middle schoolers, like me - or really just anyone who isn't already a flawless prodigy when it comes to music). She was good at selecting pieces that I would enjoy and that would stretch me, and she was flexible enough to work around my own musical goals (like playing by chords).
She's an experienced instructor, a skilled player, and a positive mentor figure to have in your child's life.
Definitely recommend.
Andrea
I took lessons from Rachel for 7 years. She's a fantastic beginner piano teacher that taught me the joy of learning and inspired me to go into the professional field of music.
Micah
I took lessons from Rachel for 6-7 years and had a wonderful experience. She is an excellent teacher especially for younger students! I would Highly recommend her.

Bonnie really knows her stuff. Reading patterns is hard for a first timer and she goes through the patterns well. She does well teaching online and makes it easy to follow.
Susan
Bonnie is a great resource for knitting help! She's knowledgeable and patient. We did have a few tech issues, but she gave me extra time, which was above and beyond, since the issues mostly were from my end. I do have to say though, that a zoom lesson doesn't compare to being together in person, but it's still a good option when that isn't available.

A great passionate violin instructor.
Loquacious, but each moment of verbal conversation has a message that leads to the musical lessons of the day. I really appreciate her knowledge and skill. I am often reminiscent of my violin instructor as a child. Each session leaves me with the zeal to practice hard in eager preparation
for the next.

Kathy is a kind, patient and methodical teacher. She develops your piano skills with a structured program of theory and exercises geared toward constant improvement. She has helped me improve my piano technique throughout our time together. I have been able to play increasingly challenging pieces on a regular basis with her. I look forward to steadily improving my piano skills.

I have recently returned from a week long stay at the Sonatina Piano Camp in Bennington VT and would like to notify all those piano students who may read this review as to the wonderful experience attending this camp can be. The camp takes adult piano students at all piano skill levels from beginner to well accomplished. Students stay in shared rooms (2-4 persons) which includes a piano in every room. Attendance is usually 18- 27 persons. The mansion itself is home to approx. 30 pianos. All meals are provided (and are outstanding) as well as piano classes and 4 lessons with concert pianists or university piano professors. Ample time is provided to practice a performance piece for the end of week performance night. Master classes are given on several evenings for those wishing to perform a work in progress piece for the attendees and the camp owner providing a public lesson.
I have found that the attending student group to be extremely supportive to all other students especially to those experiencing performance anxiety. Repeating attendees (from all over the country) have formed lasting friendships among themselves which have endured for years. Eight week long sessions are given throughout the year. In addition there are summer sessions for school aged youth
and also 4 short week sessions for those wishing to try a sampling of the camp. This past January was my 3rd year attending the camp and I will be returning again next year. My experiences at the camp have been truly unforgettable. More information can be obtained at Sonatina.com

My daughter was so nervous for her first lesson and Phillip was amazing. She is 14 and said, "He didn't make me feel bad that I am not as good as I should be and so that makes me feel like maybe i can play better."
So grateful Phillip - she is anxious to spend the summer learning from you - we appreciate your approach and as he said ability to "put her at ease" so she can feel comfortable to learn. Awesome first lesson.

Singing is a complex coordination of breathing, phonation, resonation and articulation, overlaid with musical and performance layers. This process needs to be guided by an instructor who is knowledgeable in the vocal processes and anatomy, as well vocal styles and performance. Vocal development progresses as the body strengthens and growing musical skills demand more from the vocal instrument. We'll work together to create a voice which works freely to express the musical and emotional demands of the literature, allowing the joy of ...

This was my daughter's first class, and she loved it.
My daughter was trained in opera, and was looking for a teacher who will help her do the transition to musical theater. Well, she has found such teacher.
Ms. Barbara not only has the educational background to help her, but also has a wealth of knowledge thru her personal experience as a musical theatre performer.
Personally, I do not think that we could have found her without the help of take lessons.com because we live in another city. Thank you,

s incredible as touring and performing can be, I have a huge passion for teaching banjo too. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an advanced player, it’s important to me to show you that banjo is not just a bluegrass instrument, but an incredibly versatile conduit to EVERY type of music.

Though I mostly teach three-finger style (from beginner to advanced lessons), I teach the occasional clawhammer lesson as well. We can talk about anything you’d like– I maintain the importance of keeping lessons personal and only going in the direction you want.

About David

Hey, my name is David Jones (Davey Jones if you’d like). I’ve been playing banjo for almost 25 years, more than 15 of which have been on a professional level. I’m a founding member of the Southeast Michigan indie band Frontier Ruckus, with whom I’ve played over a thousand shows across the U.

At first I thought we were all in over our heads in this venture. But after getting used to the lessons I can see my daughter's learning and love for song will grow more every week. It's not what she initially invosioned in a singing class but I can see she'll realize the value of how singing is done."

"I began taking lessons with Julia back in March 2020 and I am still continuing lessons with her. I am training in classical/opera and musical theater performance. I have been singing since a very young age and no teacher has taught me what Julia has taught me. She has pointed out in detail how I am singing and where to properly sing using different vocal techniques. Julia will break down step by step, body posture, breathing, and vocal placement when developing and learning vocal skills and techniques. Techniques that I was never properly taught or aware of. With her incredible ear, instructions and teaching, I have felt such a large improvement in my singing capability in a course of year and as helped me achieve my goals and build confidence whenever I have the opportunity to perform. Julia is absolutely talented and I am so grateful she is my teacher. I highly recommend for any aspiring classical, musical or opera singer to take lessons with her."

She is patient and takes the time to come up with creative solutions when something isn't working as it should. As a parent, I appreciate the detailed notes she sends me letting me what happened in the lesson and what she'd like done during practice time. She also provides links to additional instruction videos if she feels like her explanation isn't making sense.
