*** Lesson Details ***
As an instructor, I start students with the basics (open chords, major/minor and blues scales, general rhythm/timing, and beginner technique), and like to get at least a basic ability to sight read (music notation).

For younger students, I get them started on a beginner book for sight reading music and simple/basic songs to start with and build up their ability.

If a student is a little more capable, we start on a more modern/popular song they like. For my more advanced students, we get into music theory (cycle of fifths, harmony, chord language, etc.) and with some students we study specific genres.

My approach is one of building up a student's self confidence, and ultimately making learning fun. I take teaching seriously and value my student's time; so I work to get the most out of them, and to make their lessons worth while. All ages and levels are welcome!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Studio space in Helen's of Troy. Office is furnished with seating, music stand, and amplifier.
Student must have their own instrument and pick.

*** Specialties ***
I'm a singer/songwriter as well as a guitar player/instructor, so the construction and arranging of a song; from the music to the lyrics; are very much within my experience and teaching.

Bill is an excellent teacher. He uses any type of music you like to help you learn and stay interested. I leave every lesson excited to go home and practice what I’ve learned. Bill allows me to make a short video of what we’ve gone over that lesson which is how I learn the best when I’m back at home. Its like having that weeks lesson at your disposal for you to use at any time. My love for the guitar has grown tremendously thanks to Bill.

It is with the utmost enthusiasm that I express my admiration for Bill's ability to make my first guitar lesson pleasant and comfortable (even when I know little to nothing about playing guitar). I am confident my future guitar lessons with Bill will provide me with solid guitar playing abilities, and will prove to be compelling and diversified.

Learn great songs and feel the spirit of a tropical island while you learn. Choose your own songs or I can suggest songs. Let the fun begin!

About Nicole
Nicole began her musical journey in Long Island, New York when she began piano lessons at age five. While receiving training on piano, she joined her elementary school orchestra in the 3rd grade and quickly soared with violin. During this period, Nicole began learning music theory and the art of reading music. As a fourth grader, Nicole would go on to conduct and tune every instrument in her orchestra during rehearsal. She always competed and won many NYSMA competitions for violin while attending music seminars and workshops. It was then that her teacher realized she had a gift. Nicole continued with piano lessons and began teaching herself guitar. Later, after college, she bought herself a drum set and began to teach herself drums.
As an adult, Nicole studied to become an elementary teacher and worked in the New York State Sch
ool Districts for over five years. Shortly after receiving her master€'s degree for Literacy Education, Nicole decided to attempt to share her passion for music. In 2007, Nicole opened a music studio in Holbrook, New York. Here, she refined her music teaching skills while establishing Nicolex Inc. Music Island as a leading source of quality music education. Her summer traveling music program allowed her students to experience live performances as well as create music groups with peers with the same passion for music.
Nicole now resides in Tampa, Florida with hopes to spread her business as well as the joy of music to children and adults. She currently is the drummer for a local original Soul/Rock band. Needless to say, she understands the importance that music has had in her life and wishes to ignite that passion in other music lovers.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is best labeled as kind but firm. I take my job very seriously and want wholeheartedly for my students to have music as a part of their life, not just a part of their day. I love to laugh and have fun but I will definitely expect my students to practice and complete any homework I assign and be prepared for the following lesson. Simply stated, music is fun and the love of my life, but if I still practice, you will as well. Otherwise, I always believe in teaching songs my students are interested in and will expand their musical skills. My experience as a public school teacher had enhanced my sense of finding individual needs of every student. Therefore, I always differentiate lessons to suit my students interest while teaching them the foundations every musician needs in order to be successful. My specialty is teaching a variety of instruments. I play drums, guitar, bass, piano, and sing as well. So, if one instrument is not for you, I can teach you something different without a problem. Long story short, friends, you are in good hands.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Full Service music room: Keyboard, Full drum kit, Electric Guitar with 30 watts Amp and Microphone/ vocal monitor.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can bring a 76 key Yahama YPG-235 Keyboard for your household to use for lessons for a small monthly rental fee. I have an Epiphone Electric Guitar with 30w amplifier. Will also bring microphone and monitor for vocal lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I have taught mostly Rock, Blues, and Classical genres for Piano, Guitar, Drums. Vocally, I specialize in R&B, Broadway, Pop, Top 100 and alternative/Hard Rock. I will adapt to your needs.

I'm a professional musician and instructor, teaching various instruments for over ten years. My main instruments are guitar and drums/percussion, but I've also played and taught piano, mandolin, ukulele, and harmonica.

I would love to work with novice ukulele players of any age, to get you through the basics - chords, melodies, rhythms, strumming, finger-picking, and so much more! We can learn popular songs for the ukulele and/or talk about reading and writing music on the ukulele. I'll structure lessons according to the age, skill level, and interest of the student.

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studi
o Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.
Drums & Percussion: All genres
Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)

Learn the note names on each string, learn chords, and learn how to play songs that the student chooses to learn. I can also teach theory and ear training if the student wishes to do learn that as well. :)

About Todd
Hello! My name is Todd. I've been playing music for most of my life. My first instrument was a Casio keyboard when I was about ten years old but I moved over to guitar as a teenager and fell in love with it. I recently graduated from Webster University with a BA in music after receiving an AA in guitar performance at SWIC. In college, I learned everything from music theory to conducting as well as playing in the guitar ensemble, jazz ensemble and so on. After music school, I went through a computer coding program at LaunchCode where I learned python and java and built my own application for booking bands. Over the years I have played in a handful of bands in the St. Louis music scene but in January I moved to Portland, OR and am hoping to meet some friendly people here. I look forward to hearing from you.

Brooklyn-based private music teacher operating in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Over a decade of experience teaching a broad range of styles to students of all ages and backgrounds. Strong focus on the individual student's personal interests and goals. Master's degree in music with years of experience touring globally and recording for both major and indie labels.
Whether you're looking to begin your or your child's ukulele learning experience, or take your playing to the next level, it's my passion to get students playing the music they want to play, right from the beginning!

About Ken
A recent transplant to the Park Slope area, I'm a composer and multi-instrumentalist originally from Raleigh, North Carolina. Prior to receiving my master's degree in composition from Mannes (The New School), I was the lead guitarist in the indie rock band Annuals. As part of this group I signed with two major record labels, appeared on national television programs such as Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and performed globally both on tour and at prominent festivals such as Bonnaroo, Coachella, Glastonbury (England), and Roskilde (Denmark).

I have been teaching private music lessons for twelve years, both freelance and as part of various organizations. My approach to teaching is highly dynamic—I don't use the same method with every student and I have no stylistic prejudices or an agenda to push. I approach each student as an individual
, tailoring lesson plans to suit their personal goals and interests. I have experience playing and teaching an extensive range of styles including pop, rock, jazz, country, metal, and classical. One of my main goals is to foster a sense of musical understanding with every student so that they may learn to combine technical, theoretical, and aural skills into a unified whole.

Most students want to learn to play songs they know and love. To that end, I get students playing the music they want to play right from the beginning, often through personally crafted arrangements of songs/pieces of the student's choosing, specifically tailored to their current skill level. This way, technical and theoretical skills are learned through direct experience with actual music, and only very rarely through rote exercise.

For more advanced players, I offer an array of strategies designed to take your playing to the next level. I find that the most common shortcomings of advanced players are conceptual. The technical skills are there but the level of conceptual and theoretical understanding has hit a wall. Many players find themselves playing the same chord shapes, melodic patterns, and harmonic progressions over and over again. I've had much success over the years in getting advanced students out of this rut and helping open up new pathways for exploration in both improvisation and composition.

I've been playing off and on for 15 years and am mostly self taught. I knew what I wanted to learn but was having trouble figuring it out on my own. In the first lesson Ken was able to zero in on what I want to learn and the best way to go about it. In three lessons I feel that I understand the guitar so much more than I have in the past 15 years of playing. Not only from a technical standpoint, but also in a "feel" sense. On my own I could learn all the scales, chords, and songs I wanted, but Ken has helped me to make sense of everything and use these skills to become a better player all around.

Jonathan taught me when I was around middle school age and has left a lasting impression on how I approach the bass and music 10-ish years later. Under his tutelage I learned music theory, techniques, and all sorts of different genres and styles.

His lessons were always very professional. I always felt challenged, but not overwhelmed, by the material being taught. He also made it easy to be interested in the lessons; he would always ask if there's any song or genre that I wanted to learn and that sort of thing.

Overall, definitely a 5/5 top shelf educator and musician.

I specialize in chords and strumming patterns, and I know different finger-picking styles. When you take lessons with me we will first focus on rhythm and basic strumming patterns/ techniques. Then we will go over proper chord formation. If you have a certain song you would like to learn, we can build up to learning how to play it.

About Morgan
I first discovered my passion for music when I was 12 years old and I started playing the violin. Since then, my passion has blossomed and lead me to join various choirs and teach myself how to play ukulele and guitar, both of which I have been playing for years. I have had multiple students, all of whom developed their musical skill and interest. I teach proper technique, a variety of chords and strum patterns, and how to keep time. I am open to teaching specific songs if there are any requests.

A typical Miss Kirk music lesson includes movement, acting, drama, music theory, stage presence practice, singing and fun! I tailor each lesson specifically to my student. When students feel a sense of joy and excitement then learning and expertise follow.

As a public school music teacher, I believe in educating the student as a whole learner. I believe music education helps us learn not only what can be seen, such as music notation, but also what can only be felt. I believe music and the arts connect us to one another and our deepest, truest selves. I believe in music education because it helps the student recognize beauty in the world. I believe music has the power to help and heal oneself at any age. I teach music so that the world we live in becomes a more peaceful and loving place for us to live in solidarity with one another. Let me help you in this journey!

While at UConn I studied such operatic roles as Yum-Yum in Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Mikado, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart and as a Nymph in Henry Purcell’s The Fairy Queen. I also premiered and recorded original music in Quito, Ecuador with an early music ensemble called Collegium Musicum. During her time at UConn, I was an active member of the UConn Opera Outreach program, which aimed to bring the love of opera into the public school music classroom. I have performed at The Bushnell, Lincoln Center and the Candlelight Processional at Disneyworld. I have also been featured as a soloist with First Church
