I am a patient, enthusiastic teacher in the following areas: piano, violin, cello, drums, music history, and music theory. I have taught vocal and instrumental music in both Catholic and Public schools, and in after-school programs, for 20 years, and have been giving private lessons for 9 years. I enjoy teaching music to all age students, and especially enjoy watching my students grow in their music ability.
I received my Bachelor of Arts from Marygrove College in Detroit in Language Arts with minors in Music Education and History, and my Masters Degree from Wayne State University in Education with emphasis on English as a Second Language and Sign Language for the Deaf. I have studied Music Education for K-5 at Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan.

I am also a published author of five children's books. You can find them through my
publisher Xlibris. com and they are called Peggy, The Three-Some Book 2, The Writer's Corner Book 3, The Golden Nugget Book 4, The 1940 Diary Book 7. When you go onto their web-site put in my pen name of N.K.Beckley and they should come up. Emily Book 5 will be out sometime in March 2017 and books 6,8.9.10 should be out by Fall of 2017. These are books for students in grades 4th through 8th grades and are also interactive books. I hope you enjoy them.
I also tutor for Take Lessons Grades 1 to Grade 8 all subjects except higher level Math.

Piano: All students start out learning both Treble and Bass Clefs, and their lines and spaces. Each student then starts to learn their major scales with both right and left hand for piano. They also learn the note values, and are able to put them together in a song. I use Michael Aaron curriculum, which takes in all of the above and their technique lessons. I use all the Michael Aaron Book One, Lessons, Theory, Technic, and Performance Books for any student that is age 6 and above and I would ask that parents would buy them from Anderson Music in Dearborn, Michigan as well as any other lesson books listed below before they come to my home for lessons.
Cello: Using String Builder and Strictly Strings, the students learn the bass clef, lines and spaces, scales, and songs. Students will learn how to hold their bow correctly.I have played cello in the Waterford New Horizons Concert Band for over six years. I have also been the only cellist they have as a member of the band.
Violin: Using String Builder and Strictly Strings, students will learn lines and spaces of the treble clef, note values, major scales, and songs. Students will learn how to hold their bow correctly.
Drums: Using Rockin’ Rhythm Raps, and using drum pads instead of drums, students will learn the correct way to hold drum sticks and the rhythms of all the notes in the treble and bass clefs. They will also learn songs to play.

I have found that the attending student group to be extremely supportive to all other students especially to those experiencing performance anxiety. Repeating attendees (from all over the country) have formed lasting friendships among themselves which have endured for years. Eight week long sessions are given throughout the year. In addition there are summer sessions for school aged youth
and also 4 short week sessions for those wishing to try a sampling of the camp. This past January was my 3rd year attending the camp and I will be returning again next year. My experiences at the camp have been truly unforgettable. More information can be obtained at Sonatina.com

About Lars
I began to teach guitar at 16 years of age. I have taught seven- to 60-year-old students in a wide variety of styles. From age 12 to 21 I took private guitar lessons regularly. Now, I have a lesson every once in a while. I studied jazz guitar primarily with Randy Vincent, one of the San Francisco Bay Area's greatest guitar players. Aside from teaching lessons as a job, I have played guitar in many concerts and continue to do so. Before moving to San Francisco for university studies, I gained a lot of experience and valuable education with guitar. I played in the jazz bands in Junior High and High School. I went to four years of a week-long summer jazz camp called Jazz Camp West, where I took classes, played open mics and had fun with many musicians, making some good friends. I hold BA degrees in Music (Jazz Guitar) and Spanish, as well as
an MA in Music, from San Francisco State University. By now, I am confident in working with whatever musical material students offer! Thank you.

I am a laid back teacher, but I definitely expect students to practice what I suggest they practice. I advise that students use method books or sheet music of some sort, and I will certainly make notes for them and create materials they can learn from. I always teach based on the goals of the student and what type of music they enjoy, but I also like to guide the student in a direction I think would benefit them. I usually introduce music to play right away, conforming of course to the skill level and interest of the student. I now a play seven-string guitar that differs from the standard six-string guitar in that it has one string lower than the low E of a six-string. It will be practical to aide students by accompanying with a bass range instrument.

My guitar roots are mainly Jazz, but I am always happy to employ a very wide range of styles. I work with both modal and tonal musical styles.

I am a linguist, an art director, a marketing & communication strategist and a creative thinker, but most of all a hard-working, multi-talented and passionate dreamer.
I have taught French as a Second Language in France, Ireland, New Zealand and South Korea. My experience in teaching French abroad to students of all levels (beginners, intermediate and advanced) has led me to being in charge for the past 2 years of training all new interns in a leading creative agency here in New York.
I have a Dual Bachelor's Degree in English & Korean for Foreign Affairs with an additional specialization in Teaching French as a Second Language from the University of La Rochelle (France), a Bachelor's Degree in Advertising & Graphic Design from the NYIT (US), and a Masters Degree in Communication Arts specializing in Digital Marketing from EFAP (S

chool of New Communication Arts, France). I also have a Certificate in Fashion Business from the Lyon Fashion University (France). Additionally, I won an Professional Advertising Excellence Award during my senior year at NYIT and I had the honor of being selected to join the National Society of Leadership and Success.
I am currently the Senior Art Director of an acclaimed luxury creative agency. I have had the chance to work with amazing clients such as L'Oréal USA, Neiman Marcus, Akola Jewelry and LVLXIII x Jason Derulo to name a few.
I truly believe the best way to learn is to find 1. Meaning and 2. Passion.
1. Why am I learning this? How am I going to use this knowledge? I find it important to work with my students based on their goals, whether it be passing an exam, learning the basics, perfecting existing skills or reaching the proficiency level needed to just get around in another country or a succeed in their career.
2. What helped me and my students was finding something fun or something we could relate to and feel passionate about. When I teach I like to find often unlikely/uncommon comparisons, tools and materials to help my students understand and memorize what they need to know in the most effective manner.
