All levels of math offered!

About Jaime
Hey there! I'm a fully bilingual (English & Spanish) graduate student at the University of Pittsburgh. I received my undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at San Antonio and am now studying Rehabilitation Science and Technology. During my undergraduate career, I also took the necessary coursework to be considered a pre-med minor.

Additionally, I was also an all-around tutor for Sylvan Learning Center during the Summer of 2016. There, I taught children and teens of all ages on all of the subjects available. I also did a lot of ACT and SAT prep sessions.

My background as a Mexican-American, Mechanical Engineer, Pre-Med student. former Sylvan tutor and a current graduate student (which requires a lot of reading and writing) allows me to be a great instructor for subjects such as Spanish, Math, Science,
Language, and even ACT and SAT prep!

Jaime was an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING TEACHER! He had the ability to work with students who were Pre-K through college. He could relate to them in a way that that fostered mutual trust and provided a safety zone for students to work and grow as life-long learners. I completely and wholeheartedly believe that he has can teach any subject from beginning reading to WHATEVER!

I've been a tutor for a total of 5 years, and teacher for 1, and a TA (Diff Eq/Linear Algebra) for 1. When I was 18 I was invited by a Science Academy in Houston, Tx to be a teacher for a year, so I have lots of experience designing good material and explaining things. I can teach everything from Algebra to Diff Eq to Linear Algebra and Mechanics of Solids, as well as test prep.

I'm very friendly and I prioritize making my students feel comfortable with me as they would a friend. I also like to make my lessons fun, and joke around and engage a lot. Lots of back-and-forth questions and dialogue. My schedule is flexible (weekends included), and I'm available to work via skype as needed and on-call in case of an academic emergency.

I was needing help with Algebra to pass a placement exam. Rachel had deep understanding and was able to explain the problems in a way that not only made sense, but that applied to every day life. I was able to see the applications of Algebra beyond how to do it thanks to Rachel.

I am currently finishing my Mechanical Engineering Degree with a minor in Applied Mathematics. Afterwards, I plan to obtain my Masters in Education to teach Secondary Math professionally. I have studied at KSU and Georgia Tech. I have a pretty hands on style, and I adapt to different learning styles.

About William
To be quite honest, I have done a little bit of everything. While working my way through school, I have worked in the service industry. I have worked at an engineering group. I have worked as a theater manager. I have even worked as an actor. I list a few of these out because I believe diversity is important. Figuring out who you are and what you like is important. I believe connecting and building trust makes it easier feeling comfortable with asking questions.

I have always enjoyed math. Weird right? Can't help it though. I enjoy it so much I decided to get a Minor in it. I have studied multiple principles of math as it is applied to Aerospace engineering including orbital mechanics and the physical natures of flight. In more of a pure form, I have studied up to Calc IV, Linear Algebra, Number Theory, Differential Equations (if I ke
ep going they sound increasingly more made up). My passion for teaching and helping others in general are the two of the main factors in what's driving my change in career focus from engineering to education. I enjoy engineering don't get me wrong, but it's just not as rewarding. I have always enjoyed teaching. Throughout middle school and college, I tutored whenever I could in whatever I could. Even despite being a math guy, I enjoyed helping decipher Dante's Inferno (Divine Commedia) and also navigating through modern and classical physics.

I could keep going, but the gist of what I am getting at is that I have experienced a lot and I believe that helps me communicate. I find it easy to talk to others and I think that is one of my stronger assets. I like to laugh, make jokes. I can't promise I can make math fun, but I will settle for at least slightly less painful.
