Hello future violin students -- and welcome to violin class!!

I have been playing the violin since age 10, and have fond memories of having a loving and patient teacher when first starting out. My goal is to make violin playing fun, exciting, and get you playing as quickly as I can.

My method is a combination of traditional violin technique (mainly Franco-Belgian and Russian schools of violin playing). Once the student has developed a good foundation, we then start experimenting with different styles of music such as Latin, Jazz, Bluegrass/Country, Film Music, and even Electronica/EDM/Hip-Hop.

Yep - all styles are possible on the violin!

I look forward to helping you on your musical journey as you embark on learning the beauty and intricacies of the violin!

Happy Practicing!

About Nicolas
Hello there, future string players and welcome to my profile!!

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in Miami, FL. I started my musical career at the age of 8, singing in chorus, playing the recorder, and shortly afterwards moving to the guitar, and the violin.

When I was 15, I was nominated for a James L. Knight Award in Music, and I performed as a violin soloist with the Miami Beach Symphony Orchestra, and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony playing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major. One of my most memorable experiences when I was a kid! In high school, I formed my own string quartet and we would perform all over the South Florida community especially at hospitals and for the elderly. At 16 years old, I was also given an internship with the New World Symphony, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, for about 2
years. During this time, I was able to take lessons from master violinists such as Marc Thayer and Glen Cherry. During this time, I was given the opportunity to perform with the New World Symphony at 17 years old for pops concert conducted and performed by Chuck Mangione in El Doral, FL.

I later on accepted a scholarship for violin performance at the University of Miami for my Bachelor of Music, and earned my Master of Music from Florida State University. I also taught string orchestras for 10 years at Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K-8 Center, South Florida Youth Symphony as conductor (and now composer!), and conductor of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony. I was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Alhambra Orchestra for two seasons under the guidance of my high school orchestra teacher, Mr. Reginald Nicholson (1947-2011). It was here where I was able to work on my compositions, orchestrations, and conduct a fine group of musicians.

I now live in sunny Los Angeles, in the Sherman Oaks area, and I'm loving the new change. I am eager to share my knowledge with new students on various subjects such as learning a string instrument to learning a different language. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your goals for learning!

LESSON DETAILS
I have been teaching music as an adult, certified teacher since I was in college, but have done teaching as early as 15 years old.

I will help you create a fantastic technical base so you will be able to play with ease as your skill level develops, all while keeping the lessons fun and engaging.

MUSIC STUDIO
Piano, Violin, Guitar, Music Stand, General Teaching Aids, Recording Equipment.

TRAVEL EQUIPMENT
I can provide a music stand and basic materials but the student is expected to have their own instruments and to buy the music I recommend. I can recommend various vendors/shops where you can buy the ideal instrument for your lessons.

EXPERTISE
I am classically-trained musician that also specializes in Tango performance, Latin/Jazz, Rock, and a variety of other styles. I believe that training in the classical aesthetic will create a firm, solid foundation to crossover into other areas listed above. With a good dose of technical exercises, scales, and a variety of repertoire, my students always turn out well-rounded, ready to tackle almost any kind of music they wish to learn.

Thank you for stopping by and let me know what you would like to learn!

Nicholas is very friendly and made me feel welcome, understanding and adjusting the pace as I needed. It was a great experience and I am feeling motivated to practice on my own. I am no music expert, and yet I think he's absolutely great.

I have to admit, starting violin lessons as an adult is really weird, but it's something I've always wanted to try. I tried another teacher on here and she was a bit impatient and short with me (how does she teach children??!), so I tried Nick due to his location from my home. He's been fantastic! He's a great combo of being patient, caring, and encouraging, but also stern enough to get me to do what I need to get better. I'm sure it's not easy working with an adult that can "talk back" haha. He clearly knows what he's doing and he helps motivate me to keep learning. And he's very understanding when I run a tad late sometimes. I imagine he'd be great with kids too if he's great with a difficult adult like me.

Aside from all the technical aspects of learning violin, I will coach you to become a confident musician. You will achieve this confidence by strengthening your skills and having fun at the same time!

You will learn: proper technique, music theory, music history, to sight-read, tune your violin, solos, collaborate with other musicians, how to conduct, and how to prepare for an audition.

I take the lessons at the student's learning pace, and I challenge them to get past mental barriers.

Whether you are playing as a hobby, interested in preparing for an audition, or simply need extra help, this is the place for you. You must be able to purchase/rent a violin.

If you want lessons in your home, contact me and we will see if I can make the arrangements, otherwise, lessons are held in my home studio.

Hello there, curious musician to be!

Over the past few years I've developed the most beautiful relationships with my students, and their families. I've helped complete beginners gain enough skills, and confidence to perform in recitals in front of over 50 guests! If you're interested in performing, I host 2 recitals a year, and they're a huge hit!

Many of my students have auditioned, and been accepted into theater companies, and orchestras. Whether you are just starting out, or are looking to improve on your skills, this is the studio for you.

I started playing violin when I was 10 and have performed with several Honors Orchestras, mariachis, as well as professional groups. My Junior and Senior year of high school I was honored to be Concertmaster.

I began
my classical vocal training at San Diego State University in Spring of 2012. I was trained as a Soprano and an Alto because of my coachability, and musicianship. Since then I have worked with several talented and dynamic directors throughout my training experience. I have attended the annual San Diego Summer Choral Festival, as well as the Conducting Workshop, which consisted of an intensive choral training weekend followed by performances. I am also part of a professional choir in San Diego called Pro Arte Voices; we recently recorded our second CD on Spring '17. Lastly, I am a strong advocate for the arts in our community and am very proud to be a teacher. Most recently, I have started developing a choir program for the youth at a local church. In the near future I have plans of developing a music program for underprivileged youth, which would incorporate choir, and orchestra. I continue to work on myself so that I can always give my best to my students, and teach them something new. I look forward to making music with you, or your little one soon :)

I've taught people who were just beginning violin (both children and adults) to students who were working on major concertos. What is most important to me as a teacher is that the student connect with the music and their instrument by being creative and personalizing my approach for the student. I also strongly strive to make performers out of violinists and to help them engage both audiences and themselves.

About Ha-eun
I have been surrounded by music my whole life and have played violin for 17 years. I went to high school at the Interlochen Arts Academy, obtained a BM in violin performance at Oberlin Conservatory, and am now a Master's student at the Boston Conservatory. I have won competitions, played in professional orchestra gigs, performed with college faculty, soloed with orchestras, and won the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artists Award.

I have completed a pedagogy course in college and at the graduate level. I have taught children, teens, and adults alike. I had the fortune of studying with wonderful teachers and strive to be like them and pass on their wisdom.

I am passionate about teaching out of a desire to help people express themselves and appreciate music on a deeper level. I am very enthusiastic and adapt my approach to each student's leve
l, personality, and needs while seeking to build a good rapport. I make creative analogies to keep them engaged. I am positive while critiquing because I believe negativity is counterintuitive to effective learning. I have experience working with elementary school kids, having spent three years employed at a Boys and Girls Club.

Just as I believe in culturing love of music in children, I truly enjoy working with older and more experienced students. I am very eager to help them develop their musicality and good technique. I have an extensive repertoire list and thus am able to aid students in learning challenging music such as show pieces and concertos.

I predominantly teach classical music but have helped students in other music activities. With older and more advanced students I am willing to teach music of their own choosing. I have also helped a student prepare for college auditions.

I really look forward to meeting new students and to inspire them to be at their best!

I’m an adult learner of violin with a full-time work schedule that frequently goes over 45 hours during slow weeks. I’ve never been what many would musically talented, but the desire to learn an instrument has always been there. Like a lot of people with a full-time schedule and trying to advance their career, it’s hard to carve out time for extracurricular hobbies. On a whim, I decided to learn violin and bought one from Amazon. I quickly realized I was out of my depth. I went looking for an instructor and found Ha-eun on Take Lessons.

She’s a fantastic instructor because she’s always willing to take time to answer questions, change the lesson plan to fit what the student’s needs at that time, and focus on the basics while learning how to play music. There is a lot to know when playing violin and it can feel quite overwhelming. Ha-eun broke down some of these big overwhelming chunks into small comprehensible sizes. There is an art in teaching an instrument without making the process frustrating, and she actively tries to make learning how to play violin easy on the student. The violin is a difficult instrument, especially when you realize there is no frets on it. I think Ha-eun does an excellent job and recommend her as an instructor.

Monica has been an amazing, talented and patient teacher with my 5 year-old daughter. My daughter has excelled in only 5 classes thanks to Monica's attention to detail, technique, and orchestral etiquette. Monica has given my daughter the correct foundation to become a violinist one day. It is so important with a beginner student to learn the correct techniques early to avoid forming bad habits that prevent proper playing of the instrument. Monica has taught Clark the basics from how to properly hold the violin, stand and most importantly; how to properly play the violin. I highly recommend Monica for any level of violin player as she clearly loves the instrument, has a very pleasant demeanor and is distinguishably accomplished in her own right.

Violin teacher as of 9 years, I teach beginning through advanced lessons. Suzuki Violin school, Essential Elements 2000, shifting skills, theory, and standard concerto literature. I focus on training students with proper technique and how they want to be trained: classical, orchestral, pop, and fiddle. Students will need: an instrument, metronome, shoulder rest, and specified books (discussed at the first lesson).

My goal is to teach you to play what you love and love what you play.

About Michelle
Michelle picked up the violin at the unusual age of 12 years old. Despite the challenges of learning such a difficult instrument at an “older” age, she excelled, leading her to believe in students of all ages. Just a few years into learning the violin, she was approached to teach private lessons by several families. Knowing where her love was planted, she pursued and earned her Bachelor’s of Music in String Pedagogy in 2014, graduating with honors and multitudes of experience: orchestra, score reading, and assistant directing youth orchestras, etc….Since her studies, she has continued in professional teaching. Her accomplishments include private instruction in violin, viola, and cello. In addition, she developed group ensembles as well as a youth orchestra. Michelle loves bringing the joy of music into peoples lives and encourages excelle

I'm an avid fan of hers and attend the concerts she puts on for her students in winter and spring. She only teaches violin, but she is very knowledgeable of music in general and helped me practice notes and counting on piano. She also taught me how to correctly hold the bow for a cello, when before I thought a cello was just a larger violin.

She raves about her students' progress to me a lot. I find that enthusiasm is contagious and I know her love for teaching positively influences her students--just this year I could hear the improvement many of them made in the months between their winter and spring concerts.

I cater to the needs of the student. I am not out to make you into a violin virtuoso (unless you want to go down that path). I want to work from the students' vision of what they will do with the violin and create a plan for them to reach that vision.
I view my role as a helper. Violin lessons with me will be laid-back, friendly, and low-pressure.

About Devin
I am a professional violinist and aspiring writer. I graduated from Roosevelt University with a Bachelor of Musical Arts with a concentration in Creative Writing.

I did not begin taking private lessons on a weekly basis until I was a junior in highschool. In the ten years prior to those lessons, I remained in the beginning-intermediate level. Due to my personal experience, I am especially cognizant of the technical troubles students face and, after studying with many incredible professional musicians, understand how to alleviate them. My instruction matches my personality which is calm, well-mannered, respectful, kind, and empathetic. My approach is practical and I am devoted to the growth of my students in whatever capacity they need.

My teaching style is focusing on the foundation of modern-day violin playing, prioritizing the mecha
nics of violin sound, to create a robust tone, and ensuring comfortability and confidence in posture and technique. I believe this is achieved through professional instruction and demonstration, but also by selecting repertoire the student will enjoy. Classical “Standard” repertoire will be the norm, but popular songs may be included as well, with the evolving entrepreneurial potentialities of the musicians in mind.

I am a positive, goal-oriented instructor and care for the musical and emotional growth of my students. I prioritize positive affirmations throughout lessons and remind students what they have learned and overcome, emphasizing and praising their progress, no matter how small. I believe private lessons are an opportunity to develop self-confidence in students, setting them up for success in whatever path they choose in life.

My violin students can expect in-depth instruction and demonstration on HOW to practice, ear training, music theory, opportunities to compose and improvise, ensemble training, career advice, and more!

Learn how to:
• Groove on fiddle tunes
• Improvise
• Back up your friends on the fiddle

Hello Everyone! My name is Sumaia Jackson. I'm an alumni of Berklee College of Music in Boston, and have 10 years of teaching experience in a multitude of different styles. Coming from a deep classical background, I have also been immersed in many folk and roots music traditions including Bluegrass, Appalachian Old Time, Celtic, and a bit of Jazz. From private instruction, coaching orchestra and chamber music groups, leading workshops, and teaching at fiddle camps, I've worked with players of all ages and levels, and I love exploring the nuanced stylistic languages.

Based out of the Bay Area, I'm available to teach violin and fiddle lessons in SF/Marin/Berkeley and surrounding areas.

Get in touch to schedule a lesson!

About Sumaia
I have experience teaching all levels and I love doing everything from teaching tunes, to exploring more modern techniques and setting of playing the fiddle, such as:
• What happens if your friends have a cool rock band and you want to jam with them but you play the violin and it feels awkward?
• What happens if you go play with them and your friend looks at you to take a solo in the middle of a tune? (AH!)
• What if you are playing in a traditional folk band and you want to figure out what else you can do besides play the melody?
. . . et cetera!

Not to worry, that's why I'm here, and I'm more than happy to help with all these problems and more! Playing the fiddle/violin can fill so many roles now a days and people LOVE hearing it! You'll be your town's new rock star! :)

I grew up in Santa Cruz, CA playing the fiddle and go
ing to music camps and studying classical music intensely as well as traditional fiddle music from many countries and regions. I studied in Boston at the Berklee College of Music, as well as lived in Nashville, and now hold a degree in Performance with a minor in American Roots Music. Throughout my many years of playing, I've been immersed in many different settings: I have experience playing amplified, being dropped into a jazz band and told to solo next to a saxophone player, being asked to come play with a local folk-rock cover band, playing at Bluegrass Festivals across North America, fronting a band, and being hired as a fiddle player to back up a singer-songwriter.
