About Jonathon
I am a musician and teacher, and I believe both professions require people who are passionate about what they do, patient, and creative. I feel that I score high on all three of those things. I've played and studied music for as long as I can remember, literally. My dad, who's been a musician all his life and played with Bob Seger for a little while in the 60s, taught me from the age of 12. From my teenage years until now I've been involved in a rock/pop band (The Great Fiction) who have recorded five albums, one of which was mixed by Michael Brauer, a mixer who has worked on a couple Coldplay records. And one of the songs we wrote was placed in a Hollywood movie, "The Invisible". I've also been a music teacher for over 8 years and absolutely love seeing kids and adults reach their full potential as musicians. I tailor lessons and my tea
ching approach to each student's individual needs and do whatever is necessary to help them master their craft. I'll never let a student just give up. I'll work with them at his/her pace until both of us feel satisfied with the results. Are you (Is your child) into classical music, contemporary music, or both? I'm passionate about all music styles and have experience playing and teaching most of them.

After 3 to 6 months, students will be able to read music in intermediate level books and/or play top 10 Billboard hits.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught in a separate music room/office which includes guitars, amp, pedals, organ, keyboard. No pets.

2nd Residence: Guitar & piano: living room w seating.
No pets.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have music stands and additional music books. I expect students to purchase music book used at every lesson and a notebook for taking notes.

*** Specialties ***
Classical piano, contemporary piano and guitar.

About Zbigniew
My greatest desire is that I will instill in each of my students the love I have for making music.
I am a classically-trained violinist. I grew up in Lodz, Poland, where I began musical education at the age of 7.
I studied violin and piano at the Music High School and Music Academy of K.&G. Bacewicz, Lodz, Poland and earned a Master Degree in violin performance in 1980.
During his College years I started to perform with the Symphony Orchestra of Polish Radio and Television.
From the mid – 70s until the early 1990s, I performed with several Polish orchestras
and held a position as a violin teacher for four years at the College of Education
in Slupsk, Poland.
Then, I spent almost 10 years performing in numerous ensembles and orchestras in Germany and toured with Orchestra of Great Theater of Lodz in many countries all over the
world.
From 2002 – 2005 he was first violinist at Lodz’s Operetta Theater.
I moved to Michigan in 2005, where he performs with Macomb, Jackson and Flat Rock Symphony Orchestras.

*** Lesson Details ***
The most interesting and beneficial thing about performing music is that it is one of the few activities that engages both the left and the right brain at the same time. I believe that every Human Being is precious and deserves to be nurtured and encouraged in a fun and loving environment. With that in mind, my teaching places equal importance on developing strong technique, and developing creativity. Students learn all the basics of music, and also spend time developing strong ensemble skills and strong background knowledge of style and repertoire, so that they can enjoy music in all kinds of settings, all their lives.
Our time spent together will be laid back and comfortable, yet challenging because that is probably why you want to take lessons.
Each lesson will conclude with an assignment of instrumental pieces/songs given to work on throughout the week—usually 2-3 short songs for 30-minute lessons, and 1-2 longer instrumental pieces for an hour-long lesson. These will be the same pieces we have worked on during the lesson time, so you will go home with the knowledge you need to master each piece. Music theory sheets and technique exercises will also be included in the assignments.
Within 6 months, you will begin discovering how to read music and understand the language of it. You will learn how to play some of your favorite songs/instrumental pieces and learn some that you might not know. We'll discover what you really want to learn and achieve through taking lessons, and we will work toward those goals!
Discipline is vital to musical progress and daily practice is strongly urged, in order for the student to progress. If a students don't practice, they won't progress. Because of that, you can expect that I will encourage consistent and regular practice, always keeping in mind that the study of music is meant to be fun.
Knowing from experience how "boring" it can be to learn by rote, I combine technical work with fun time playing duets together, improvising, and exploring a wide variety of styles and genres of music.
I would be honored to share my knowledge and love of music with you. Give yourself a priceless gift that will last a lifetime!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Grand Piano /Hammond Organ

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to have their own instrument. I can provide the music stand and I always bring my own instrument so that I can demonstrate during lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Teaching methods: Suzuki and traditional /formal method, in group and one on one settings

My son Zain and I really enjoyed his first lesson with Zb. As this was Zain's very first piano lesson ever, I was glad to see that Zb started out by teaching him how his overall posture and arm movements should be. I was impressed by this especially because when I learned to play trumpet years ago, I learned some non-optimal habits early on that plagued me all through my time playing. I'm happy that Zain is being taught good habits from the very beginning by Zb!

My sophomore daughter has enjoyed taking trumpet lessons from Dr. Wyrick this school year. He has been consistent, creative and enthusiastic. She looks forward to her scheduled lesson each week and shares only positive experiences with us. As a parent, I appreciate Dr. Wyrick's kind demeanor and knowledge base. We definitely see progress and increased confidence in our trumpet player. She even received a superior rating on her trumpet solo at this year's Solo and Ensemble Festival in January.

I am a 46 year old man and I have always wanted to play the guitar, so I finally bought a guitar last year. I had tried to teach myself by using a lesson book from the guitar store, then I tried to learn from an instructor on-line. I became frustrated with both attempts, finding I was not understanding what the book and the on-line instructor was trying to teach. I also tried another instructor, but became quickly discouraged by his teaching methods and even stopped playing for about 6 months. When I started taking lessons from Jerry, I actually got excited to play again. I only have a small amount of time to practice so my progress has been very slow, but Jerry has always been patient and encouraging. I had learned more from Jerry in the first few lessons than I had in all of the other methods combined. I started with Jerry really believing that I was physically unable to finger the strings on my guitar, but Jerry took the time to see what I was doing wrong and gave me help on how to correct the issues.

About Haley
I currently teach at the Grosse Pointe Music academy and I am looking to fill some open slots in my morning/mid day schedule. I am a past songwriting music student at DIME. Dime is a new music college in Detroit. I was torn between Berklee and DIME but decided to stay home and pursue a professional music career. I am in a band with three Berklee Students called SIAS. (siasmusic.net) I was classically trained in piano and generally teach the classical method to my students. I have some experience with the Suzuki method as well. I encourage students to play what they want to play. I like to let the students control how they want to spend the lesson time, whether that be time working on their ear training, classical method, singing along, or creating original songs. The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the musical journey.

Haley is great! She is very flexible with my son's schedule and understanding. My really enjoys her as a teacher and he has come leaps and bounds from where he started weeks ago. He will be playing in his school's talent show after only having played for a few months. She is very caring and nurturing to my son and allows him to move at a pace that he is comfortable with while also pushing him to focus.

About Claire
I recently graduated with a Master's in Voice Performance. Though I throughly enjoy performing, my real passion is teaching. I believe, as a teacher, it is important to take our own experiences and pass them on so others are able to learn and grow. I have performed and taught many areas of music including classical, broadway, jazz, pop and contemporary. My Master's recital focused on contemporary music which is my main focus but I have experience many others.

I enjoy teaching all ages of students and firmly believe any student can learn if they motivation and confidence. I enjoy all types of lessons; that range from teaching a child their favorite piece, a high schooler preparing for music school auditions or older adults wanting more confidence in the music they sing with their church choir.

With my performance background, I am able
to use those experiences in my teaching. In my undergraduate, I struggled with classes and learning in lessons. Today, I use my tricks and techniques with my students to help them learn in a safe, fun environment. I teach how my favorite teachers taught me, trying new ideas or concepts till one works or sticks with the student. Being flexible is an important part of teaching and every student is different. It's important to know how to "go with the flow."

Please feel free to email or call me with any questions! I am happy to talk to you to see if we are a good match!

About Dan
I am currently in my 4th year of my Undergraduate Degree in Music Education at Eastern Michigan University. I have been performing and been teaching saxophone for many years and keep on learning more. Learning under me, a student can expect to review and refine the basics, while going above and beyond in learning advanced techniques. I am a member of the North American Saxophone Alliance, and a Saxophonist for the EMU Wind Symphony, as well as a former Drum Major of the Eastern Michigan University Marching Band. Not only am I confident in my saxophone abilities, but I am willing to teach leadership and learning techniques so that once the student moves on without me as their teacher, they will have the skills to keep on learning. I am a firm believer that a student can go above and beyond and have fun at the same time.
