You decide what we learn--we can start with learning to read and play from a book for steady, foreseeable progress and goals, or simply start with the chords of your favorite songs from the radio--we can even learn tab--or all three! In our first lesson, we will discuss what your personal goals are for the mandolin and formulate a plan for your individual success, based on the type of music YOU want to learn.
Students describe me as patient, fun, and encouraging, and as your mandolin teacher, you can expect me to work with you from where you are, and with subjects and curriculum that match what you are interested in learning. *Please check my availability before signing up, as my time slots are quickly filling up!* I look forward to meeting you! Ukulele students start with five subjects.
1) Technique is concerned with the development of the physical mechanics involved in playing the instrument.
2) Scales are a part of basic music vocabulary and building blocks of the musical language.
3) Chords are also basic vocabulary of the musical language.
4) Note reading is not required for every student. It really depends on the students' goals. However, I strongly encourage everyone learn to read musical notation, (more than tablature). Literacy in reading music is analogous to literacy in reading in our English language. Can you imagine how much smaller our world would be if we couldn't read?
5) Songs utilize the skills and concepts of all the previously mentioned subjects and are the goal of studying music. The student chooses what songs they want to play, guided by my suggestions; Jazz, rock, blues, country, bluegrass, R &B - "How deep is the ocean, how high is the sky?"
A beginning student will practice ...

Justin is a very reliable teacher. My children has been taking singing and piano lessons from him for about 6 months. Both kids improved a lot in skills, and they like him very very much!"
The fact that he is one of the most inexpensive teachers is just a bonus. I couldn't find anywhere else that offered his price. Anyone wanting to learn guitar or get better at playing should definitely go to Ahmad.
You won't be sorry and you will actually see results."
I went to Eric because I wanted to improve my speaking voice to record Voice Over material. After a few lessons it turns out that I can actually sing!
Well, not really but it's not Eric's fault. I will continue to take class for as long as I can, because it has helped me with all aspects of using my voice. And I understand a lot more about singing and voice. Actually I am re listening and appreciating even more all the great music I have heard my whole life. I think any other teacher would have not awakened this level of enthusiasm in me. He is great."
Having no previous experience with drums and playing along with my favorite songs in few weeks is pretty amazing. Casey is easygoing and has a great ability to teach in a fun way. I definitely enjoy learning from this skilled musician!"
