As a clarinetist, it made perfect sense to me to pick up the saxophone. It is a great instrument to play. I really enjoy it.

I teach beginning and intermediate levels of saxophone. I use the rubank books as well as a few other books for saxophone books.

Heather is a great teacher; she is able to gauge ability and keeps the lessons varied and interesting, always pushing you just at the edge, beyond what you thought you were capable of. Friendly, amiable, and laidback in style, she makes learning in a comfortable atmosphere fun. You can tell she has a real passion for music and teaching, and results after just a few lessons proves she knows what she is doing.

I am a beginning singer, my only prior experience was singing with the congregation in church, not the choir.
Quinn
She's really nice, and makes warm-ups before starting the lesson for your voice range. The variety of songs you can sing is pretty big, you want to sing in Italian? There's plenty! Want to sing in Latin? I'm pretty sure there's a few! There are songs from various musicals, too. All in all, she's a pretty great teacher.

I believe in teaching with honesty and integrity. In the past, I have learned under private teachers who did not care about teaching the saxophone properly and seriously which led to awful habits and horrible embouchure. The lessons will not only provide accurate information about the saxophone and proper playing techniques, but it will be circled around what you need as a musician. Although you not become a professional musician, it is still essential that any students deserve the best!

While my degrees are in clarinet, I am also an accomplished saxophonist who has performed in ensembles throughout Colorado and Western Massachusetts, including jazz ensembles, musicals, and a professional saxophone quartet with performances at a regional North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) Conference. I have experience ranging from helping students just learning their instrument all the way to students looking at All State or college auditions. My goal is to tailor lessons to meet each student's individual needs and interests, while still reinforcing good technique. Lessons will usually consist of doing a mix of different things such as: long tones, scales, etudes to improve technique and musicality, solos, duets, and Disney or jazz/pop tunes.

Private one-on-one saxophone instruction has been my primary vocation for nearly 30 years. I've also worked as a professional performing musician for over 35 years. Each lesson is tailored to the tastes and needs of the student, with traditional method books rarely used once the basics are under control. Instruction is based on a strong working knowledge of scales. The informed use of these scales leads to a heightened understanding of improvisation, ear training, and other practical aspects of music theory. Students are encouraged to choose from a variety of jazz standards and transcriptions, classical themes, and pop tunes that I’ve transcribed and engraved. Rudimentary instruction is also available for saxophonists wishing to learn flute and/or clarinet.

About Neal

I started giving saxophone lessons nearly 30 years ago when I began to realize how little I was taught about the way music works in the real world. Despite studying Music Performance at Illinois State University, my most meaningful education has been earned through mistakes I've made, or through tr

The saxophone can be one of the funnest instruments to play, no questions asked! In order to reach that point it's important to have certain things in order such as: sound production, breath support, musicality, and technique. In lessons use a variety of exercises and method/etude books, playing duets together, as well as listening and ear training to give my students a well rounded approach to the saxophone and music helping them to become the best musician they can be.

Bill has a competent, easy manner that makes learning an enjoyable experience.

I started with Bill almost two years ago and I was at about zero on the piano. He's helped me reach the point where I can play some standards and even improvise a little over them, and I look forward to improving even more. We began in person but the transition to remote lessons has been seamless.

Bill is patient, attentive, and a whole lot of fun to work with. He has a positive attitude and a great sense of humor, and he backs it up with strong motivational skills to keep you practicing and putting in the work to reach your goals.

Oh, and of course, he's got some incredible chops! He's a talented multi-instrumentalist and a beast on the saxophone. His love of music and knowledge of jazz is sure to rub off on you.

"After 10 years of inactivity, I decided to jump back into playing the saxophone. I started working with Matt a few weeks ago, and it's really been great. He's very personable and I respond well to his teaching method. In just a few sessions, I'm understanding more jazz theory and am already seeing my technical skills improve. He seems to adapt his style to each student, so if you're looking to learn an instrument or just brush up on a few things, I highly recommend him."

"I had weekly lessons with Dr. Wen from Fall 2018 - Spring 2019. He opened up my playing beyond the notes on the page and helped me understand musicality. We worked together on etudes and pieces that pushed my technique, and playing the difficult passages was never to be at the expense of phrasing and musicality. From how to physically hold and play the instrument to alternate fingerings and phrasing, Dr. Wen improved every facet of my playing. More than that, he left me with the tools to keep improving. He will do the same for you!"

"Kareem has been teaching me since I was in the fourth grade. I am currently in 8th grade, and man what can I say, he's as good as it gets! After two years I was in my middle school jazz band, which is not easy for a person who has only been playing for two years. You, yourself will be able to see extreme progress within just a few lessons! You must know Kareem teaches at Pierce College, a class at the Tacoma School of the Arts (which I hopefully will be attending and taking his class), teaches numerous private students every week, and lastly he performs with a stellar jazz band of his own! He is extremely dedicated to the musical field. If I were anybody reading this review and wanted to start playing any of the variety of instruments he plays, I would call Kareem K.!

"I first started taking lessons with Rick Rossi at the age of 12. I came in and knew little about music but Rick was a great teacher. He used easily absorbable methods about things that other musicians have trouble explaining. It was soon very clear to me that Rick Rossi was an exceptional musician. He could play funky jazz lines, and transition to beautiful classical melodies and play them with such ease and fluidity. It wasn’t until that I had taken some lessons with other teachers that I knew what I had in my life. Rick is a masterful jazz improviser, and I had learned the secrets of a pro’s pro. His methods gave me an edge over the other musicians in my school jazz band. The teachers noticed it and gave me lots of soloing. I was soon able to play chord changes shortly after. The “Rick Rossi” method breaks down a lot of the questions people have about what types of techniques saxophonists use when they solo. Using Rick Rossi’s method has opened lots of doors for me musically. As a result I have played in numerous bands and as soon as Rick thought I was ready he hired me to play in his bands. He is an exceptional musician with tons of experience under his belt. He has played with numerous big-name musicians in the industry. Not only does he teach and play music, he runs his own music agency called Rossi Music that hires and books some of the best musicians in the Los Angeles music scene. His teaching has helped me to become more aware of what it takes to be a professional musician in the real world of the Los Angeles music scene."

Choosing a Neck Strap | How to Play Saxophone Tips

Learning how to play saxophone starts with the right equipment--namely, a quality neck strap! Read on for some helpful advice from Brookings, SD teacher Carl S...    The saxophone is a unique instrument for many reasons. One example is that the saxophone is the only band instrument that uses a neck strap. Unfortunately, the neck strap is often the most overlooked aspect of playing the instrument. One of the first things that I stress to a new student is the importance of the neck str …
