Ms. Tina was born and raised in North Plainfield, NJ and attended college at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ and Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ where she received a BM in Musical Theater. Music is not just a job for Ms. Tina...it's a passion.
I continually strive to encourage and motivate my students to explore their individual talents and abilities to their fullest and to have fun! I look forward to working with you
and your family to achieve your music education goals!
I have played saxophone since I was in 5th grade. I have been in a variety of groups over the years; rock, funk, punk, jazz quartets and big-band jazz, and the experimental use of electronics. You will learn proper breath (dynamics) and embouchure control, tonguing techniques, standard and alternate fingerings, approaches to improvisation and assistance with a varied repertoire for performance. I own a 1967 Beuscher alto saxophone and an Elkhart C-tenor saxophone. My home studio has recording capability which I use to record lessons when they are needed for review. Ear training is a crucial part to music on any level, and I encourage playing by ear as an important element to improvisation and music appreciation. My lessons are fun, informative, and creative!
Hello Future Students!
Whether you want to pursue a Musical Career or simply learn how to Play your Favorite Tunes for friends and family, I am here as your Teacher and Guide. I teach at my own home, at the Student's home or through the use of Skype.
I am originally from Ann Arbor. I spent much of this century living in NYC and prior to that I lived in Chicago. Those experiences vastly helped me develop Networking, Performance and Teaching experience. I now live in southwest Detroit near River Rouge.
As a Father of four, I have had the joy in teaching my own children Guitar, Saxophone, Songwriting, Composition and Keyboard. As a parent I have found that Patience and Encouragement is often the best form of support.
It has been proven that learning Music helps develop intuition, self-awareness, and social skills as well as imp
rove in other subjects not directly related to the arts such as Mathematics and Science.
One of the most important aspects of playing Music is being able to Play by Ear. This has been a priceless gift that I was born with and have developed throughout my life. I encourage all musicians, young and old, to do the same. The use of simple Rhythmic Dictation and Ear Training exercises can do wonders for "picking out" Beats and Harmonies no matter what Genre we are interested in.
I attended music courses at The Boston School of Contemporary Music and Thomas Jefferson College (MI). I have a BA at Columbia College Chicago double majoring in Music Composition and English .
My band THIRD BORDER's "Sun of Water; Sea of Light" was selected to be nominated for the Grammy's as The Best Alternative Album of the Year in 2006. On this record, I played Guitar, Saxophone, sang Lead Vocal and wrote all the Songs. If you are a Songwriter, we can polish up your approach.
As a Composer, I have done Sound Design for Film, Dance, Spoken Word and Multi-media Performance - most notably with renowned poet Anne Carson and former members of The Merce Cunningham Dance Co. I also formed and composed two symphonies for my 12-member saxophone orchestra in NYC. Currently, I am rehearsing new work with a Detroit-based multiinstrumental orchestra.
I hope to talk to you soon! Benjamin
*** Lesson Details *** My teaching style is relaxed with a forte on Patience and Encouragement. Though I have specific expectations on what needs to be learned, I gear each lesson towards the student's wishes and their personal direction in Creativity. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, I can guide you wherever you are headed!
For Guitar (acoustic or electric), you will learn the fundamentals of Music Theory, Chord Structure, varied Strumming and Picking Techniques, and Scale Positions to travel from one part of the neck to the other. Any song you wish to learn, I can teach!
For Saxophone, you will learn proper Embouchure technique, Notation, Music Theory, and Scale Patterns for improvisation. Whether you are interested in a Classical, Blues, Funk or Jazz approach, I can help you find your own sound that is both personal and professional.
I teach 2nd year Piano and Drums/Percussion directing you into Intermediate level.
For those leaning toward the experimental genres, I am well-versed in the use of Electronics. Much can be accomplished with my lessons on Sound-Scape Improvisation either as 1 on 1 or Group Workshops.
*** Studio Equipment *** At Home Studio: music stands, metronome, guitar amps, electric and acoustic guitars, guitar tablature, staff music paper, a scanner for weekly homework. I can also record and send MP3s of our lessons to review at home if you wish.

We had our first saxophone lesson with Benjamin today and it was excellent! He is clearly a master that can assess a student’s skill level and adapt the lesson to suit their needs. He is just what we needed :)

30 lessons for my high school son with Ben. Excellent teacher. Always on time. Very professional. Baritone Sax. Highly recomend. Will be getting more lessons with Ben.
As a clarinetist, it made perfect sense to me to pick up the saxophone. It is a great instrument to play. I really enjoy it.
I teach beginning and intermediate levels of saxophone. I use the rubank books as well as a few other books for saxophone books.
I love teaching, simply love teaching! I teach students of all ages. I teach piano, voice, clarinet, and saxophone. I have taught for over 33 years! I am also experienced in teaching students with special needs. My students have lots of opportunities for performance, if they choose to. We perform at Nursing Homes, Retirements, Festival of Trees, and Seasonal Recitals. There are at least 2 recitals a year, 1 at Christmas and 1 in the Spring, if enough participation, we often have one in summer with a party afterward. We also participate in the Michigan Music Association competition. I have also had students perform in Disney World in Florida!!! I have been in many musicals such as Annie, Gypsy, Rock Around the Clock. I have put on solo recitals. My students and I have fun while we are learning music! It is the best job ever.
*** Lesson Details *** I use a variety of curriculum, which includes classical, broadway, some pop, new age, and jazz. After 3 to 6 months you will have a basic understanding of your instrument and will be ready to take off! I do ask students to keep track of your practicing so you can see your progress.
For piano: I use the Alfred Basic Books for beginners and then we move to the Keith Snell books along with other supplemental books. If a student already is using a book, generally we will finish that book up so they won't have to purchase another set of books.
For Saxophone and Clarinet: I use the Rubank books along with other supplemental books
For Voice: I use the 24 Italian Songs and Arias, The Young Singer, and various Broadway books. Any pop music must be purchased by student as there is just way too much to chose from for me to have a lot of it.
*** Studio Equipment *** Home Studio: in living room with 2 pianos at entrance of house. Seating is available as well toys and a table for siblings.
*** Specialties *** Voice - Classical & Broadway Piano - classical Clarinet - classical and pop Saxophone - classical, pop, and some jazz
I am so thankful to have Heather as my vocal teacher. She knows exactly what her students need to reach their maximum potential and she helps them to build a strong and solid foundation. Heather is not only an outstanding teacher, amazingly gifted vocalist, and a beautiful woman, she is also very encouraging, motivating, fun and caring. I absolutely love her. She is an answer to prayer, a blessing beyond words!!
I have been playing various woodwind instruments for almost my entire life. I focus on tone, intonation (staying in tune), and the confidence needed to be a strong melodic player. I teach all of the various saxes including soprano, alto, tenor, and bari.
In addition to being a Berklee College of Music Graduate, I have a Masters in Music Education, and currently completing my Doctorate in Music Education from Boston University, I have been playing for over 30 years.
Lessons are written and tailored to you. I use music, printouts, and instructional material to make sure you progress as you should.
I have spots available every day of the week, so I'm confident that we can find something that works for both of us.
I know that learning to play any style of music whether it be Jazz, Blues, Soul, Motown, Funk, or Rock is a challenge, but with help from an experienced educator, your instrument becomes a rewarding lifelong enjoyment.
Please feel free to contact me. I would be happy to speak with you regarding any questions you may have.
It's so rewarding to meet a teacher on the same page with me. Very personable, knowledgable and sets direction/goals clearly.

I enjoy my song writing coach Frankie. His knowledge and patience was well appreciated.

Frankie tailors each music lesson to my needs and interests, while sharing his extensive knowlege of music, theory, and playing technique. I have enjoyed each lesson over past 8 years, as he has encouraged me to grow and develop my own knowledge and skill. An excellent instructor!
Why these lessons are different: - Formally trained conductor/composer/producer - Individual or group session options including full band production - A long roster of satisfied clients - Broad base of musical styles (rock, classical, jazz, blues, metal, bluegrass, folk, theater, big band, symphonic, pop, punk, country, march, gospel, avant-garde...) - Over 20 yrs teaching experience and work with recognized professionals including work in some of the top-rated private schools in the United States - Over 30 years performing experience
My process is based on (but does not adhere strictly to
) the Classical approach to Western tonal harmony and asks that the students develop certain fundamentals of technique and theory. In my experience, this structure creates the strongest foundation for pupils to build the rest of their musical lives on, whether professionally or solely for personal enjoyment. All of my students are on the fast track to studying music theory. Whatever level they are at when I start with them, I guide their efforts into bringing the students up to a certain level of comprehension regarding the mathematical aspects of music and how it relates to their instruments. This understanding of theoretical principles of sound allows the students to play any style of music they wish, no matter how their tastes may change throughout their lives.

Darrell helped me a lot to get a handle on my Ableton rig. I needed to set up midi tracks, locate presets to create cool sounds from plugins. Then I needed to export the audio of a couple of those tracks to import into a separate Pro Tools project. Lot of progress, thanks Darrell! -- Frank S

Absolutely loved the lesson and loved Darrell. He made me feel very comfortable and made the lesson fun. I learned a lot and really am looking forward to the next ones. Very excited to be embarking on this new venture in my life.
Hi! I have a Bachelors in Music Education and have experience teaching many beginning students! I have 3 children and decided to give up regular teaching to be with them. I believe that tone production is the most important area of study. It doesn’t matter what you can play if it doesn’t sound good. I can’t wait to help more students love to “play” on their instruments!
Hello! I started my love of music at a young age with my family playing and singing at family functions. That turned into a wanting to learn how to play the flute and I went up through high school with that instrument. After high school I branched out more into vocal performance. After that I joined a traveling performance group. No not the circus! I joined Drum and Bugle Corp. They taught be how to play the Baritone and I marched a straight Baritone. I then learned the Mellophone and marched that after. Since I had experience with Drum Corp Marching I taught over 10 different marching programs over many different years. I graduated from College with my Bachelors in Music Education and was a music director until I had my children and decided to give up regular teaching. After all of the years I spent honing my craft I decided t
o continue giving lessons. I have the most experience with Flute, but can teach many other instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone/euphonium, piano. I have worked with many different age groups and levels of ability. I am happy to help you learn to have fun and "play" your instrument!
Mrs. Bemus provides a calm nurturing approach to teaching. She saw potential in me, and helped inspire me to become a future educator myself.

Kim completed her student teaching in Music Education at Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte. During her teaching she worked with all instruments Flute, Clarinet, Sax, Trumpet, Baritone, Trombone, Tuba and Percussion. She also assisted with the award winning Wyandotte Marching Chiefs Marching Band Program.

Kim is a fantastic instructor! She is experienced, encouraging, and patient with students as they are learning. She helped me prepare for solo and ensemble, and supported me throughout the process. I highly recommend choosing Kim as your instructor.
I am a private music instructor specializing in woodwind instruments looking to take on clarinet, flute and saxophone students in the Orange County area!
My lessons consist of a well balanced coverage of exercises (scales, note patterns, etudes, duets, major repertoire, etc) geared towards building a solid foundation in playing technique. This allows each student to be accurate and expressive with a sense of ease in their playing! Students of the studio are also thrown into the world of music! They are strongly encouraged to attend concerts, listen to music regularly, and attend masterclasses. The goal is not just to learn an instrument, but to also develop a life-long love and appreciation for music!
I am very proud to say that my students soar through their band and orchestra programs in school and obtain a sound quality/sense of musicality way beyond their grade level! The majority of my students excel past their school music programs! They join youth/honor bands ...
I believe that everyone has the ability to enjoy and be expressive on an instrument. It is miss instruction and a lack of passion in music education that allows students to become frustrated and bored, ultimately pushing them to quit their instruments.
My goal as a music educator is not only to teach the mechanics of an instrument, but to also inspire a life-long passion for music. Therefore I make a point to encourage students to explore all the music there is to be had in their surrounding environment! This includes attending concerts, listening to great recordings and savoring all the music that our modern-day media has to offer! I am proud to say that the majority of my students develop a great interest in music, fueling them to push past their difficulties and achieve a high standard of musical performance!
With a mission in co
nstant musical exploration I teach a thorough curriculum of scales, exercises, duets and standard solo repertoire pieces. Surrounding all this is a foundation in music theory. This pedagogical study will enable a fun and easy experience when students pick up their instruments to perform music! In addition to this private study I strongly encourage my students to reach out for extra-curricular musical activities outside their school music programs. This includes pursuing honor bands/orchestras, chamber music, music competitions and effective musical examinations such as Certificate of Merit. I believe a constant setting and achieving of goals is the foundation of growth in anything we do and music is no exception.
I took one lesson from another teacher who was unreliable and fumbled around explaining things. After my first lesson with Carter I realized he knows his stuff and knows how teach. He’s a real teacher. I am excited now to learn . Thank you

Music is a wonderful vehicle for such self-expression and requires some skill and coaching to build the muscle. That's where I come in! I am here to teach the discipline in a fun and engaging way, thus building your ability to play an instrument, sing songs and be YOU!
I am currently living in Southern Oregon out on a ranch with my horses and dogs. I love to play my saxophone every day! I also play the ukulele, the Icelandic nose flute and sing!

"Great. He gave lots of good advice and pushed her past her comfort level. Only gave 4 because it’s the first lesson."
"Really great teacher, helped me out a lot"
"Top notch teacher.
Norman is an excellent teacher. I have been with him for just over a month now and I have came leaps and bounds. It's my first instrum
ent that I have tried to learned and I can read music and play duets with him. He's friendly and very knowledgeable of the material also. I would say that in a couple months I will be dazzling my friends and family. So if your thinking about an instructor then Norman would be a great investment."
"My son started taking saxophone lessons with Gleb in April, 2016. He was at 6th grade at that point and was playing saxophone as a Music Elective in his
Middle School. In October/November, 2016 my son auditioned for the Special Music High School playing saxophone and, as we learned in March, 2017, got accepted. My son did not have a privilege of parental help or support as far as musical education or experience goes, and he is not exactly a very purpose oriented type “A” achiever kind of boy. So he could only rely on Gleb’s help and effort. In a month or so, my son said that he likes working with Gleb and would like to prepare for upcoming auditions. This is when we decided that we have to intensify their practices. Starting from June, 2016 my son was taking 2-hour lesson with Gleb 3 times a week. Since, as I mentioned earlier, we could not help our son with composition selection for his auditions, I just printed the Audition requirements from High School’s website and Gleb suggested a selection and worked on them with my son. I would definitely recommend Gleb for your young musician. I believe that he knows what he is doing not only in terms of music, but he is definitely able to work and find a way with different kids, not only the best out of the best, which you would often hear from very well acclaimed teachers and tutors."
"Thomas is very nice, knowledgeable and serious, I like serious teachers cause I learn more. He has attention to every detail and motivates me to reach my

The saxophone is a unique instrument for many reasons. One example is that the saxophone is the only band instrument that uses a neck strap. Unfortunately, the neck strap is often the most overlooked aspect of playing the instrument. One of the first things that I stress to a new student is the importance of the neck str …
