I enjoy using American Sign Language as both a fun creative outlet through interpretation, and as a tool to communicate with members of the Deaf community. I have taught vocabulary and culture to students levels 1-3 and try to add as many relevant cultural insights as possible to my lessons.

Students can expect to focus on fingerspelling, hand shapes, vocabulary, facial expression, body language, and ASL interpretation skills.

About Robert

Mixing has been my passion for over 5 years and I regularly DJ for underground parties and live streams hosted by promoters and friends. My partner and I have developed an easy-to-follow methodology through our brand Mix 'n Match Mentors that teaches the basic "order of operations" you should follo

Brett
There are many aspects of Robert that make him uniquely suited to instruct people in the art and skill of mixing:
* he's an extremely empathetic person so he's always on the same wavelength as his student.
* he's an exceptional communicator, as evidenced by his fluency in not only English and Spanish but ASL as well. More importantly than his multiple-language fluency, he has a natural aptitude for teaching and explaining things in an intuitive way.
* he's extremely passionate about live music performance, but especially the sounds that get people moving on the dance-floor. He also possesses an exceptional breadth of knowledge of dance music as a whole: the history, the artists, the genres, and all manner of tracks from timeless classics to fresh releases.

Robert has put a lot of thought into how to build the fundamentals of mixing from the ground up. I know, because I was one of the first people he taught. When we started, I was overwhelmed by the flashing lights and myriad buttons on the controller, and couldn't transition from one song to the next to save my life.

The many hours we spent teaching me to mix had two significant outcomes:
1. Not only do I feel comfortable stepping up to the decks to mix, it's actually something I REALLY enjoy and look forward to.
2. Robert developed the teaching framework he'll use to teach you, which focuses first on mastering critical fundamentals in an intuitive, step-by-step process.

If you're anything like me, listening (and dancing!) to dance music is something that brings you a great deal of joy.

Take it from me: the thrill of a perfectly-executed transition from one song to the next is an intensely gratifying and thrilling one. Being at the helm of a controller, you get to play an active role in the music, which is so much cooler than just passively enjoying it. Robert got me to that level.

He can get you there too.

Robert is an amazing DJ teacher!! Knows his stuff incredibly well and knows how to take complex subjects and make them very approachable. Robert is very patient but also great at challenging you to get outside your comfort zone and try new techniques. Also knows a ton about music and can meet you at any style you prefer to focus your DJing on. Whether you are just starting out or have been DJing for a bit and want to expand your skills, I couldn't recommend him more!
Banu
Great teacher! Robert is very knowledgeable and was quickly able to improve my DJ skills after just one lesson. Couldn't recommend him more.

Embraced by the Deaf community in the state of Massachusetts over 10 years ago, I was submerged in the language and the culture during and after losing what was left of my hearing. I’ve never felt so much love and support in my life. It was quite touching. During the whole “losing my hearing” process, I quickly picked up American Sign Language and began teaching at TLC Deaf.

My family relocated to a different state and I began teaching homeschooled students ASL online via other video chat apps like FT, Skype, etc.

I had no idea that this (TakeLessons) existed and I’m not even sure how I stumbled across this app. I’ve been seeing various vocabulary signed differently compared to what I learned so I’ve been joining classes as well. Furthermore, I believe that there will always be something for you to learn no matter how skilled you are.

I noticed that there were no morning classes during the week and figured that I could share what I know with those who prefer morning classes.

About Brandy Q

I’m fun, innovative, interactive and insightful. I believe that I am skilled at meeting people where they are, understanding how they learn, and adjusting my style of teaching to match their needs. My classes are voice off, but I have many visual cues along with text that will help students underst

"I have known Kat for a number of years in both a personal and professional level . Throughout all of my interactions with Kat she has shown herself to be persistent, optimistic and able to handle and multiple task within a wide range of subject areas . One of the greatest personal attributes she holds is empathy. And, this character trait is a benefit to those whom choose to retain her services as an instructor; for, any noteable teaching style must incorporate an ability to be flexible in methodology based on students' academic needs. Kat has gone above and beyond those criteria. I highly recommend her."

Sign Language for Beginners: 10 Basic ASL Phrases & Words

To effectively communicate with sign language, you need to know basic sign language words and phrases. Just like spoken languages, there are a variety of sign languages used around the world. American Sign Language (ASL) is used throughout North America, including the U.S. and English-speaking Canada.
