I have been teaching piano for over thirty years, both in my home and in Catholic After School Programs. I teach both Beginning and Intermediate students.
I use Michael Aaron Adult Piano Book Grade 1, Michael Aaron Piano Coarse Grade 1 for Theory, Technic, Lessons and Performance books. I also use Music Ace Deluxe as a review on their computer. This is a lot of fun for all my students.
I will go as fast or as slow as the student needs me to go. I tailor make the lessons to my students.

About Kathy
I am a patient, enthusiastic teacher in the following areas: piano, violin, cello, drums, music history, and music theory. I have taught vocal and instrumental music in both Catholic and Public schools, and in after-school programs, for 20 years, and have been giving private lessons for 9 years. I enjoy teaching music to all age students, and especially enjoy watching my students grow in their music ability.

I received my Bachelor of Arts from Marygrove College in Detroit in Language Arts with minors in Music Education and History, and my Masters Degree from Wayne State University in Education with emphasis on English as a Second Language and Sign Language for the Deaf. I have studied Music Education for K-5 at Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan.
I am also a published author of five children's books. You can find them through my
publisher Xlibris. com and they are called Peggy, The Three-Some Book 2, The Writer's Corner Book 3, The Golden Nugget Book 4, The 1940 Diary Book 7. When you go onto their web-site put in my pen name of N.K.Beckley and they should come up. Emily Book 5 will be out sometime in March 2017 and books 6,8.9.10 should be out by Fall of 2017. These are books for students in grades 4th through 8th grades and are also interactive books. I hope you enjoy them.
I also tutor for Take Lessons Grades 1 to Grade 8 all subjects except higher level Math.

*** Lesson Details ***
Piano: All students start out learning both Treble and Bass Clefs, and their lines and spaces. Each student then starts to learn their major scales with both right and left hand for piano. They also learn the note values, and are able to put them together in a song. I use Michael Aaron curriculum, which takes in all of the above and their technique lessons. I use all the Michael Aaron Book One, Lessons, Theory, Technic, and Performance Books for any student that is age 6 and above and I would ask that parents would buy them from Anderson Music in Dearborn, Michigan as well as any other lesson books listed below before they come to my home for lessons.

Cello: Using String Builder and Strictly Strings, the students learn the bass clef, lines and spaces, scales, and songs. Students will learn how to hold their bow correctly.I have played cello in the Waterford New Horizons Concert Band for over six years. I have also been the only cellist they have as a member of the band.

Violin: Using String Builder and Strictly Strings, students will learn lines and spaces of the treble clef, note values, major scales, and songs. Students will learn how to hold their bow correctly.

Drums: Using Rockin’ Rhythm Raps, and using drum pads instead of drums, students will learn the correct way to hold drum sticks and the rhythms of all the notes in the treble and bass clefs. They will also learn songs to play.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Upright piano w/ seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
I enjoy teaching beginners in any area, because then you can see how far they have come at the end of the year.

I have recently returned from a week long stay at the Sonatina Piano Camp in Bennington VT and would like to notify all those piano students who may read this review as to the wonderful experience attending this camp can be. The camp takes adult piano students at all piano skill levels from beginner to well accomplished. Students stay in shared rooms (2-4 persons) which includes a piano in every room. Attendance is usually 18- 27 persons. The mansion itself is home to approx. 30 pianos. All meals are provided (and are outstanding) as well as piano classes and 4 lessons with concert pianists or university piano professors. Ample time is provided to practice a performance piece for the end of week performance night. Master classes are given on several evenings for those wishing to perform a work in progress piece for the attendees and the camp owner providing a public lesson.
I have found that the attending student group to be extremely supportive to all other students especially to those experiencing performance anxiety. Repeating attendees (from all over the country) have formed lasting friendships among themselves which have endured for years. Eight week long sessions are given throughout the year. In addition there are summer sessions for school aged youth
and also 4 short week sessions for those wishing to try a sampling of the camp. This past January was my 3rd year attending the camp and I will be returning again next year. My experiences at the camp have been truly unforgettable. More information can be obtained at Sonatina.com

Kathy has worked wonders with my piano lessons. In about a year and half of lessons Kathy has added scales and exercises along with musical selections designed to enhance specific skills, plus has worked with me on select piano works which I find interesting and challenging. My abilities and quality of playing been steadily improving. She is always positive and uplifting yet she still can point out areas of playing quality which require work. She gears lessons and advancement of difficulty to my specific rate of improvement. I couldn't ask for better and and am looking forward to continued progress over time for my improved musicianship.

Helping students to play by ear and to be able to read basic chord charts and beginning and intermediate piano methods along with theory and technique exercises. Special areas include Pop, Rock Jazz and Worship music.

About Tom
I have been teaching guitar and piano for many years in the Metro Detroit area. I have also played professionally in many local nightclub and wedding bands as well as having toured with "Bob Seger" as his lead guitarist/writer/vocalist. I have done recording sessions for "Motown" as well as having studied under "Joe Messina", a legendary Motown guitarist with the original "Funk Brothers." I take great pleasure in mentoring, training and equipping students with the necessary musical skills to achieve at the personal and or professional level according to the specific student's interest, desire and goals. I tailor my teaching methods according to the student's ability and musical preference, and can teach most anything from classic rock, to pop, classical, oldies, jazz, etc. Many of my students have gone on to play at the professional leve
l, and one, in particular, has become a music professor at "Berklee School of Music". Another former student plays with the band: "Thirty Seconds To Mars." I have also been able to assist those students who have a desire to introduce vocals while playing their instrument. I am also able to provide personal assistance in songwriting when needed.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very easy to get along with during lessons, however I can provide extra encouragement and motivation the student needs based on their specific goals for taking lessons, whether it be for personal enjoyment or for the purpose of making music their career. I believe that learning music can be fun even as a serious venture, and therefore I incorporate humor when appropriate. The curriculum I use includes: "Berklee, Mel Bay, and Hal Leonard" methods for guitar. For Piano I use "Schaum and Thompson" piano methods as well as Hannon for technique. Additionally, I invite students to suggest personal favorite songs of interest of their choosing as a motivational tool to aid them learning from the music that inspires them. I find this very helpful for students in developing a good ear as well as sparking motivation to practice as they learn from their favorite musical artists in addition to learning the fundamentals of the instrument.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide music method books/sheet music etc. Students would need to own and bring their own instrument to lessons. I also provide guitar amplification.

*** Specialties ***
Berklee, Mel Bay, and Hal Leonard blues guitar method's. Schaum piano method. Hannon Technique. Pop, rock and jazz styles.

I️ teach from books that give students a strong music theory foundation and ability to read music notes. I️ also find songs that my students like, and I️ use computer software to create/edit sheet music that fits their level. I enjoy seeing my students play their favorite songs.

Every 8-10 months, I host recitals for my students to perform in front of family and friends. Parents loved the previous recitals from May 2016, January 2017, and October 2017. This gives students the opportunity to display their talents and hard work in a formal setting. Recitals are optional, for all instruments, and will be held at the Piano Place in Troy.

I have a strict 24-hour notice for cancellations. The one exception where you do not have to pay the late-cancel lesson fee is inclement weather conditions.

About Rachel M.

My students consistently stand out at local competitions and festivals. Some have gone on to careers in music, others still play after ending lessons, for their own enjoyment.

In addition to my 30 years experience as a traditional piano teacher to students of all ages and levels, I have extensive background in The Taubman Approach. I have studied with the most preeminent experts in this approach to piano technique and am now in the teacher training program in the Keyboard Wellness Seminar. This approach to piano technique is peer reviewed and based on sound physiological and physical principles. Students who study this approach are able to maximize virtuosity while avoiding or reversing injury.

About Rachel
Rachel M. is a performing pianist, composer, adjudicator, clinician, church musician, and teacher. Her students have won many competitions and some have gone on to become respected musicians at prestigious colleges and religious institutions.

Dr. M. teaches at Macomb community college and at her home studio in Troy, Michigan. While she upholds high standards for her students, Dr. M. believes in respecting the individual needs and unique qualities of each one. Students learn a mixture of classical and popular music and are introduced to the fundamentals of music theory and improvisation/ composition.

Dr. M. offers a variety of performance opportunities for students. As a member of NFMC, MTNA, the Vivace Music Club and the American Guild of Music, she regularly enters children in a variety of competitions if that is what they choose t
o do.

As a clinician, Dr. M.has given several lectures around the state on the Taubman approach to piano technique. Dr. M. is one of only 2 or 3 pianists within the state of Michigan to have worked one on one with the late Dorothy Taubman, considered by many to be the world’s leading expert on the prevention and healing of music related hand injuries as well as a master coach of leading concert pianists. (see New York Times article)

As a performer, Dr. M. plays regularly with the Macomb Symphony and has also given numerous recitals in the United States and abroad. She has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Macomb Symphony, Southfield youth symphony and the Grinnell Orchestra.

In the last five years, Dr. M. decided to write down some of “those tunes that are always running through my head.” To date she has written about 40 compositions, some of which have been performed at local churches. Stay tuned. This has been an exciting development for her students, some of whom have their own compositional aspirations.

I am very picky about my piano instructor and tried lessons with a few teachers. I ended up sticking with Rachel for these reasons: Rachel is extremely knowledgeable on piano technique, theory, history, etc. She can sight-read complex pieces, and she also has a vast repertoire...there have been many times where I ask her about a song I want to learn and she would play it right at that moment because she has either taught it or learned it in the past. Rachel is patient enough on weeks where I didn't practice much and uses the lesson time to go over my piano technique in detail. She is also strict enough to motivate me to learn difficult pieces; I'm currently working on Chopin's Fantasie Impromptu op. 66 under her guidance.
I am an adult student who took piano and violin lessons as a child and currently been with Rachel for over two years (weekly hour-long lessons). Highly recommend this teacher!!!

Jessica Spangler’s Holistic Approach Piano Studio, LLC
A holistic and relevant approach to teaching piano and music skills to anyone.

Holistic Approach

The phrase “Holistic Approach” simply means that I teach the student, not the lesson. Every student has a different learning style, goal, strengths and weaknesses. It means I will teach all the elements of music in context of the big picture, not just learn the written language of music. It means I will think outside the box and customize the learning journey to help each student reach their own potential.

My goal is to facilitate students’ own exploration of the piano and its language so that they can learn to play anything independently. It’s a matter of “learning how to learn,” and making connections between all of the knowledge they gain. That comes through a functional, relevant introduction to music, as opposed to going through the motions of a method book alone, to memorize numerous isolated facts and repeat them ...

About Jess
I am a life-long musician with training in flute, piano, and vocal technique and performance. I attended Spring Arbor University received my associates in Piano Pedagogy in 2004. I am the pianist at Christ Church Fraser in Fraser, MI and I also play for weddings, funerals, and other events. I have been teaching piano since Iwas 13, when my teacher gave me referrals for beginners. I especially love to teach students with special needs and very young beginners.

About Paige
I am currently a junior at Oakland University studying instrumental/general music education and piano performance, where I receive piano instruction from world-renowned pianist and pedagogue Tian Tian. My private piano training began at the age of five in Shelby Township. Since then, I've earned top ratings from various music organizations, including the National Federation of Music and the American Guild of Music. I also made an appearance playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, k. 488 with the Oakland University Chamber Orchestra, and was a finalist in the Oakland Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition.
Students under my tutelage find that they learn quickly and can see their improvement from week to week. Students gain more confidence in their abilities and are excited to learn more constantly. They are able to play/write/c
