I teach everything from finger style classical/Flamenco guitar to all classic/alternative/indie rock; as well as songwriting development and arranging, and music theory.

About Bill
Guitarist/Songwriter Bill G. is a versatile and experienced instructor, who's been playing and teaching guitar for over 20 years, and is fluent in everything from finger style Classical/Flamenco and Folk guitar, to Jazz, all Rock(from classic to modern Alternative/Indie), and various World music styles.
From first lesson beginners to highly advanced students; and from simple songs to elaborate music theory, improvisation, and songwriting development; all are welcome to sign up with this patient, and highly recommended teacher.
Starting guitar lessons at a very young age; Bill went on to win many regional, national, and international awards through out his formative years as a student. Writing and recording in several different styles over the years; and also being a vocalist and songwriter; he founded Indie Fusion trio The Static Dia
l in 2010 as it's leader. The band has worked with several national and international touring bands, has been featured on indie and major radio from their hometown in Detroit to the UK, and has released two EPs, two singles, and a full length album.
Feel free to message with any questions about potential lessons; we'd love to hear from you!.

*** Lesson Details ***
As an instructor, I start students with the basics (open chords, major/minor and blues scales, general rhythm/timing, and beginner technique), and like to get at least a basic ability to sight read (music notation).

For younger students, I get them started on a beginner book for sight reading music and simple/basic songs to start with and build up their ability.

If a student is a little more capable, we start on a more modern/popular song they like. For my more advanced students, we get into music theory (cycle of fifths, harmony, chord language, etc.) and with some students we study specific genres.

My approach is one of building up a student's self confidence, and ultimately making learning fun. I take teaching seriously and value my student's time; so I work to get the most out of them, and to make their lessons worth while. All ages and levels are welcome!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Studio space in Helen's of Troy. Office is furnished with seating, music stand, and amplifier.
Student must have their own instrument and pick.

*** Specialties ***
I'm a singer/songwriter as well as a guitar player/instructor, so the construction and arranging of a song; from the music to the lyrics; are very much within my experience and teaching.

Bill is a great teacher. We have covered rock lead, rock rhythm, finger picking, strumming patterns all while learning new songs and expanding my playing base. I had tried to self teach back in the 1990s so had some bad habits, Bill has worked with my to fix these so I can play more fluidly. Bill is very accommodating to what I want to learn while pushing the expansion of my ability. It's been a very enjoyable experience.

Learning to play from a DVD or the internet can not properly teach a beginner bass player, because there should be a student/teacher interaction, one has to already know how to play in order for a DVD to be effective, and i truly believe one will still need an instructor. i enjoy teaching and playing bass. i teach (4 to 6 string), which includes learning to read bass clef notes, scales, chords, keys signatures and time on the music staff, etc., etc., i can teach tab also. i like to teach beginners to give them the correct and formal fingering techniques, then later if they like, they can go all willy nilly. i get satisfactory results. i also love playing guitar and piano, i know these instruments very well and because i want to teach as many as i can to keep real music alive, i also teach beginner guitar and piano, all the above applies to guitar and piano lessons, and music theory and ear training. i like using small i's

Ive let's me know what is going well, what I need to work on, and provides gentle encouragement when it is clear I am not practicing enough to get it right. He has worked with top professionals, so he knows the theory, the music, the lifestyle and the connections. He has a great laugh.
I am a teacher (science) and I appreciate a professional yet fun approach.
I might not ever be famous, but I am having fun learning to play, and I see progress.

Ive is a fantastic instructor because he works at your own pace and talks with you rather than at you. I don't feel dumb when I am learning information I hadn't known before, but instead he helps me feel like he is simply sharing his knowledge so that I can fully understand it, regardless of how complex it may initially seem. His prices are great and he's a great person. I highly recommend him if you are looking to learn an instrument!

I am very patient, and beginners to experienced players are all welcome!

About Marc
I teach all styles of guitar, as I have been in many different types of music situations: Soloist (Classical) Ensemble (Classical and Jazz) Lead and Rhythm (Various Rock and Roll bands) Songwriting and Recording. I am a people person that learned the guitar from many different sources. Most of my learning came from watching others and communicating with others. I like to learn about the people I am teaching so that I can better understand their needs as a musician. My education came as a practical necessity in order to get better as a teacher and performer, as well as make a living doing it. But, by no means do I preach the need to be "educated" but only to be a working, practical musician. I will surely go over the need to read music once the need becomes evident, enlighten you as to why it may be important to understand certain aspect
s of music as opposed to just "picking and grinning", IE learning only "By Ear." I do specialize in music theory, and have many students taking lessons simply for this excellent foundation for songwriting also.

I am a classically trained guitarist that performs both as a soloist and for ensemble in a wide variety of styles. I graduated in 1996 from Schoolcraft College with an Associates degree in Music performance, and then, studying under the tutelage of Brian Roberts went on to receive my Bachelor's degree in Guitar Performance with a secondary in Jazz from Wayne State University in 2004. While at Wayne State and along the way I've performed and participated in several masterclasses with renowned artists: William Kanengiser, John Holmquest, Philip Candelaria, Jason Vieaux, Scott Tennant, and Antigoni Goni. I have also completed the teacher requirements for books 1-a and 1-b for the Suzuki Guitar Institute.

Many of my classical guitar and electric guitar students have went on to study further at the collegiate level, some achieving scholarships. My most recent students are current Berklee school of music graduates now in a band called "Flight of Fire", recently opened for Bonjovi this past summer and are getting air time on local radio stations... well on their way to living the dream! …the bulk of my students become full time professional musicians.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am an extremely patient person who has been teaching for over 20 years. I am laid back so there will be no pressure. With my electric and steel string guitar students, I host a special "Jam Session" 2 - 3 times a year to which will be one of your goals to participate in. This includes playing with a drummer, bassist, singer and another guitar player (usually me) and having it recorded. This should serve as your motivation to practice. This really eliminates the need for me to pull out a "yardstick" and "smack" your hands over the knuckles when not practicing your scales as many old traditional teachers may have done!

At your first lesson I will talk with you and give you examples of music that is played with a Flat-Pick, or music that uses the Finger-Style technique. This will be an important process as it will dictate which direction you will go in as a musician and especially during our lessons.

For the most part, playing with a Flat-Pick is generally used with the electric guitar and with most mainstream styles of music like "Rock and Roll", "Blues", "Rock-a-Billy" "Funk", and playing with the Finger-Style technique is used in styles like "Classical" and "Folk." After a while, I will introduce you to the other style of playing as well, as most great guitar players use both techniques in their playing...musicians (guitarists) such as: “Jimmy Page“, “Brian Setzer”, “Stevie Ray Vaughan”, “Joe Satriani”, “Lindsey Buckingham”, “Paul McCartney”, “John Mayer”, and many, many more.

To make learning the guitar Fun, I make sure to incorporate your main interest(s) first. Whether it be learning your new favorite song(s), learning how to write a song, or just learning some basics that you can use for when sitting around the campfire. This will be intertwined with which style you choose to start with: Flat-Pick or Finger-Style.

Pending on the level that you are starting at, (beginner, intermediate, advanced) I will include tidbits of music theory that will be used in a consistent manner. These will usually be progressive, pending on your level. For example, the songs you learn will be written out in an easy to understand chart that will have the fundamental aspects of theory (IE, chords, key, and rhythm pattern) that all musicians should understand.

With Children learning with a Flat-Pick, I encourage the use of a basic guitar instruction book.
Level One (beginners) :

"Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book One" by Will Schmid.

I will also use as a substitute for Level One:
"Alfred's Basic Guitar Method" by Alfred's Publishing Co.

More advanced players who can read music already (and graduates from book one) I prefer;
"Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book Two"

With Adults, I will ask if learning to read music interests you. It is a vital part of a practicing musician, but sometimes your needs may require a more one dimensional approach as time may be of essence. Again, I learned by ear and educated myself later...so I understand the person who wants to hold off on reading right away.

Students who want to learn the Classical (Finger-Style) approach will be encouraged to purchase a beginners book that I use written by one of my first instructors/mentor. It is a very intuitive book that covers the technique in great detail yet is very easy to understand (along with my help.) I will provide means of acquiring this book at your first lesson.

Students who want to learn the Folk (Finger-Style) approach will usually start in the above book, unless your an adult who just wants to learn some basics.

At your first lesson I will also provide you with documentation that goes more in depth about the various styles of guitar as the above info is scaled down.

I aim to instill a love of music and of the instrument through both student guided song selections from popular genres and movie/video game soundtracks, as well as technical and music reading exercises designed to make my students well rounded and ready for any way they choose to pursue music.

About Nicholas
Detroit native, Nicholas C. K., demonstrated an innate musical talent from a young age. His command of piano, guitar, trumpet and bass progressed to studies at both Columbia University in Chicago and Wayne State University in Detroit. Since age 16 Nic has toured the country sharing the stage with acclaimed rock acts such as; Tesla, Bret Michaels, 3 Doors Down and many others. He is currently endorsed by Warwick Basses.

Nicholas been a musician in some form or another for as long as he can remember. His musical journey started when he was only six, with a delve into the realm of classical piano. While there he studied under world class child prodigy Josh Cullen. The composers that he studied include Bach, Beethoven, Barton, Hayden and many others.

From here he progressed to playing jazz trumpet, studying the Jamey Aebersold method un
der Paul Finkbeiner, the lead trumpet player for the Paul Keller Ensemble.

Then at the age of 11, with the help of his grandfather he discovered the guitar. He learned quickly on his old SR guitar. He quickly discovered that he had a natural taste for blues phrasing, and his soloing abilities quickly blossomed. 2 years later, he had formed his first band, Spherical. It was through this band that he found the bass.

His journey into the realm of bass, began out of necessity and progressed into love of the bottom end. Since then, he has been collecting basses, playing, living and breathing bass. He now realizes the importance of a funky beat, a subtle line and most important of all A Tight Groove!!!

The benefit of studying under someone with a vast array of both talent and experience is clear.

*** Lesson Details ***
During his musical career Nicholas has played almost every style of music; from folk to experimental from jazz to rock. One thread holds true through all music, it has to groove.
During the course of a lesson he will cover a broad range of topics starting from the basics, and moving into ear training, sight-reading, theoretical knowledge and most important for bass players, groove. Just as every player has their own musical personality and voice, so to does every lesson that Nicholas gives.
In a supportive, patient environment, every lesson is custom tailored to the student.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home: lessons in dedicated music room with piano and stereo, guitars/basses, cables/amps

*** Specialties ***

Classic rock, blues and jazz guitar methods, including ear training, improvising, and help with rhythm issues.

About Tom
I have been teaching guitar and piano for many years in the Metro Detroit area. I have also played professionally in many local nightclub and wedding bands as well as having toured with "Bob Seger" as his lead guitarist/writer/vocalist. I have done recording sessions for "Motown" as well as having studied under "Joe Messina", a legendary Motown guitarist with the original "Funk Brothers." I take great pleasure in mentoring, training and equipping students with the necessary musical skills to achieve at the personal and or professional level according to the specific student's interest, desire and goals. I tailor my teaching methods according to the student's ability and musical preference, and can teach most anything from classic rock, to pop, classical, oldies, jazz, etc. Many of my students have gone on to play at the professional leve
l, and one, in particular, has become a music professor at "Berklee School of Music". Another former student plays with the band: "Thirty Seconds To Mars." I have also been able to assist those students who have a desire to introduce vocals while playing their instrument. I am also able to provide personal assistance in songwriting when needed.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very easy to get along with during lessons, however I can provide extra encouragement and motivation the student needs based on their specific goals for taking lessons, whether it be for personal enjoyment or for the purpose of making music their career. I believe that learning music can be fun even as a serious venture, and therefore I incorporate humor when appropriate. The curriculum I use includes: "Berklee, Mel Bay, and Hal Leonard" methods for guitar. For Piano I use "Schaum and Thompson" piano methods as well as Hannon for technique. Additionally, I invite students to suggest personal favorite songs of interest of their choosing as a motivational tool to aid them learning from the music that inspires them. I find this very helpful for students in developing a good ear as well as sparking motivation to practice as they learn from their favorite musical artists in addition to learning the fundamentals of the instrument.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide music method books/sheet music etc. Students would need to own and bring their own instrument to lessons. I also provide guitar amplification.

*** Specialties ***
Berklee, Mel Bay, and Hal Leonard blues guitar method's. Schaum piano method. Hannon Technique. Pop, rock and jazz styles.

I am a 46 year old man and I have always wanted to play the guitar, so I finally bought a guitar last year. I had tried to teach myself by using a lesson book from the guitar store, then I tried to learn from an instructor on-line. I became frustrated with both attempts, finding I was not understanding what the book and the on-line instructor was trying to teach. I also tried another instructor, but became quickly discouraged by his teaching methods and even stopped playing for about 6 months. When I started taking lessons from Jerry, I actually got excited to play again. I only have a small amount of time to practice so my progress has been very slow, but Jerry has always been patient and encouraging. I had learned more from Jerry in the first few lessons than I had in all of the other methods combined. I started with Jerry really believing that I was physically unable to finger the strings on my guitar, but Jerry took the time to see what I was doing wrong and gave me help on how to correct the issues.

Hailing from a background constituent of Jazz, Indie, Pop, Death Metal, and Rock, my studio is aimed at helping to coach and teach contemporary styles of the guitar. I can teach both acoustic and electric styles, with my specialties lying in Blues, Rock, and Metal (specifically on electric). The studio revolves around theory and practical musical concepts to help the student unlock the mysteries of the fretboard, eventually leading to the ability of heightened creativity and improvisation. I am an avid player of 10 years, and with my training in Music Education from WSU, have consolidated much of what I've learned to help maximize understanding and communication within the studio setting.

About Dane
Greetings!

I am a current WSU student of Vocal Music Education with my principle instrument as voice (Tenor). I'm 25 years old, and a well rounded musician with a great sense of humor and a laid back attitude. This isn't to say that my lessons are all fun and games; there is a serious element to every session, but students have always give positive feedback in that they feel very comfortable with me.

I have been singing for 15 years and do so professionally in two churches, one of which I am the section leader of (Fort Street Presbyterian in Detroit). I am also the section leader of the WSU Concert Chorale, the audition level choir. For both voice and guitar, I have studied under numerous great men and women who have guided my practices to the point where I have began to pass my knowledge to others!

llow and logical and practical guideline that will allow musicianship in it's greatest form to bloom forth from the student. Heavy emphasis on solid technique, artistry, theory, and ear training makes for a well rounded and informed player/singer! I can teach from my home, your home, online, or even from the practice rooms at Wayne State if Detroit is a good middle ground or closer for you!

Thanks for taking the time to read this :)

Dane is an excellent teacher to work with. You can get a lot accomplished with him any time you work with him. He'll make you feel super comfortable in your own abilities no matter what level you are, while also working with you towards realistic goals. He explains things very well and with patience. He'll treat you way more on a personal one on one level than anybody I've tried to work with thus far. Extremely understanding, and great teacher. 11/10.

About TJ S.

Close

Because of touring and recording for decades, I've got whatever you need related to acoustic OR electric guitars. They are wonderful instruments and their creative potential is limitless....and ALWAYS exciting and inspiring. I teach you right out of my studio where I'm, most of the time, recording a brand new song for my next album RIGHT THERE. If I can do it, so can you....and I'll teach you how.

About TJ
I've been a touring, professional singer/songwriter for decades, My guitars and I have serenaded folks from Vancouver to Romania and most places in between...except for the Atlantic OCEAN, of course!

I work in my recording studio, where I'll teach you from, most of the day, but I always keep a FEW spots open for students. I believe it's a great way to give back to the community and show gratitude for all that I've been given.

Do you wanna get skills and possibly turn a fun hobby into a potentially awesome career? Then take it outta the case! Let's DO THIS!
