About Colin
Hello there! My name is Colin, and I have four years of experience tutoring math and science. I am a PhD student in the UC Berkeley-UC San Fransisco joint bioengineering program. My strong background in STEM qualifies me to tutor math and science up through lower-division college courses. Aside from my academic qualifications, I believe that it is my genuine passion for math and science that makes me an effective tutor for students of all backgrounds.

As a tutor, my goal is not to impress students with how much I know. Rather, my goal is to show my students how easily math and science concepts can come to them when they are presented the material in a straightforward way. The late physicist, Richard Feynman, posited that the ability to explain complicated ideas in a simple manner is the true mark of understanding. I agree with this a
ssertion, and I make it my goal each tutoring session to explain even the most complex phenomena in a simple way, so that my student will come away from the lesson invariably understanding it. Additionally, I emphasize a strong understanding of the fundamentals, because both math and science are heavily inductive disciplines; many of the theorems and laws are founded on other, more fundamental principles. I have personally experienced the discouragement of trying to learn material that is beyond my preparedness level, and so I can empathize with students who are in that boat. Fortunately, I have learned that the remedy is always a return to, and a strengthening of the basics. That is the approach I take with students who find themselves struggling in a course.

My online teaching platform is a “black board” drawing program that my students can follow along with as I explain concepts and solve problems. I simply share my screen with them during the session, and at the end, I take a screenshot of the notes and email it to my students for their reference. I hope this brief explanation of my qualifications and teaching style has provided a clear image of what you can expect from me as your tutor. I am eager to hear from you and help you succeed in your academic goals!

I have been signing since 1998, spending every chance I can among my Deaf friends and immersing myself in the language as often as possible. I received my BA in Music with a certification to teach at Lubbock Christian University in 1998. Later I attended the Interpreter Certification program at Burlington County College in New Jersey from 2009-2011, and during that time took a summer course at Gallaudet University for the Deaf in Washington DC. Then in 2014 I received my MEd in Curriculum and Instruction with Instructional Technology from Houston Baptist University. I have been teaching ASL at the high school level since 2011. I am also one of the interpreters for the Deaf at my church in Fort Bend County, TX, outside of Houston, where I am a member and actively involved in the Deaf Ministry.

About Katie
I love to inspire students to practice, that is where the real magic happens. I love to see them not only set goals for themselves but reach them. I am willing to do whatever it takes to see them succeed. I love working with people and encouraging them. I have been a horn player since August 2007. I am studying french horn at Grand Valley State University but am also efficient in euphonium, piano, music theory, aural (reading rhythms and reciting them aloud), and trumpet. I have been in marching band for 6 years on mellophone so I can also help with teaching marching techniques and mellophone playing since it is very different from french horn.

About Christopher
I was a screen printing and graphic design business owner and now work from home doing freelance graphic design.

I enjoy a healthy lifestyle and am passionate about the way we work and how I can improve the status quo.

I teach small business with the city I live in, as well as screen printing. School always made absolutely no sense and my questions seldom were answered. Now that I am 30, I can see how public schools assess students instead of prepare. In college, sales is not taught for a reason - corporations don't need more competitors. Personal finance is also not taught. So why are both parents gone from the home all day working for another? Why are the kids being raised by tax funded schools? How can we keep families together without the stigma of working from home?

First and foremost, teaching is a business just like mine.
Of course we want to offer value, but what is that value in the face of the debt acquired for a degree? Does it really liberate us to be financially free? Only in retirement after we have a mortgage and cars on credit. The origin of the word "mort-gage" means "death-pledge" and is related to the word "mortuary". Is that life?

Life grows from seeds and even after we eat from a seed, we can still plant a new seed. That is everlasting abundance and it is an entitlement. It's only when someone withholds natural resources and asks us to work for them to earn it, that the whole planet gets out of sync.

I have a personal story that fuels me. However, my personal story is one of many similar stories continuing today. I am here to teach what I can to change the world starting with me, my home, then my community and beyond. Which brings us here to TakeLessons.com where we can heal from the industrial era.

I hope we can meet and I can understand or discover why you are here on earth and how you can be in a better position to maximize your potential to share and earn.

Ps. Everyone should work, yes. If I want an orange, I must work to peel that orange. I shouldn't have to go work for a human, to get a check, then go to another human to turn that check into a green paper, that I have to go to another human to buy the orange. All to end up where we began - peeling the orange.
