I love the piano, outside of singing, playing the organ, it is my favorite instrument. I began the study of the instrument at age six, so I strive to have the student bond with this instrument. It is a reflection of one's soul. I teach note and rote, along with ear training. Rhythm is an integral part of my piano methodology. A student will usually see results within the first six months!

About Cheryl
I have worked for over 30 years as a professional
accompanist and musician in the greater metropolitan Detroit area. I have earned several degrees,
which include a Bachelor of Music Performance in Organ and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and
Music both from Wayne State University. My studies included wonderful instructors. I have studied
extensively with Albert Fillmore for ten years, Mischa Kottler for four years and Robert Conway for
five years. The last two instructors were from Wayne State and also played with the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra. I have studied organ with Ray Ferguson who played with DSO as well and I have studied
voice with Marjorie Gordon, coloratura soprano.
With over 40 years of experience as professional musician, I am confident that I possess the
qualifications needed to make a difference and an impact i
n the lives of people.
Most of my career tenure has been with the Detroit Public Schools. I have worked at various
levels in Pre-K – 12 schools but the longest has been twelve years at Cody High School. I have
enjoyed coaching the students and working with the music staff at the Cody Complex. These students
are very talented and eager to express their creativity and musical ability. I am a seasoned musician
with sight reading, transposing and improvisational skills. I used these skills to work with children
and young adults in small groups, larger groups and individual coaching in preparation for festivals
competitions and auditions.
I would like to continue providing this service to the young people within the Greater Metro
Detroit Area. Music is an important part of youth development in math and English. It also helps to
produce character and leaderships skills of discipline, teamwork, commitment and self esteem.. I've also done the same for my private piano students, in studio as well as in a corporate setting.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a diligent instructor that possesses intuitive goals, almost from the first few lessons! I am always encouraging, and give modest yet helpful criticism. I insist on teaching and developing the fundamentals in private study, ie, standard concepts and music theory. In three months time, the student will know whether we are a good fit, whether or not they like my instruction, and discover their unique abilities as a result of my facilitation!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to have an acoustic piano, or a full-sized weighted keyboard. All equipment should be adequately functional.
*** Specialties ***
I am a classically trained musician. I am also a church musician. My other styles do include pop, jazz, oldies, gospel and contemporary christian music. I start with the basics before moving to any other styles of music.

Helping students to play by ear and to be able to read basic chord charts and beginning and intermediate piano methods along with theory and technique exercises. Special areas include Pop, Rock Jazz and Worship music.

About Tom
I have been teaching guitar and piano for many years in the Metro Detroit area. I have also played professionally in many local nightclub and wedding bands as well as having toured with "Bob Seger" as his lead guitarist/writer/vocalist. I have done recording sessions for "Motown" as well as having studied under "Joe Messina", a legendary Motown guitarist with the original "Funk Brothers." I take great pleasure in mentoring, training and equipping students with the necessary musical skills to achieve at the personal and or professional level according to the specific student's interest, desire and goals. I tailor my teaching methods according to the student's ability and musical preference, and can teach most anything from classic rock, to pop, classical, oldies, jazz, etc. Many of my students have gone on to play at the professional leve
l, and one, in particular, has become a music professor at "Berklee School of Music". Another former student plays with the band: "Thirty Seconds To Mars." I have also been able to assist those students who have a desire to introduce vocals while playing their instrument. I am also able to provide personal assistance in songwriting when needed.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very easy to get along with during lessons, however I can provide extra encouragement and motivation the student needs based on their specific goals for taking lessons, whether it be for personal enjoyment or for the purpose of making music their career. I believe that learning music can be fun even as a serious venture, and therefore I incorporate humor when appropriate. The curriculum I use includes: "Berklee, Mel Bay, and Hal Leonard" methods for guitar. For Piano I use "Schaum and Thompson" piano methods as well as Hannon for technique. Additionally, I invite students to suggest personal favorite songs of interest of their choosing as a motivational tool to aid them learning from the music that inspires them. I find this very helpful for students in developing a good ear as well as sparking motivation to practice as they learn from their favorite musical artists in addition to learning the fundamentals of the instrument.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide music method books/sheet music etc. Students would need to own and bring their own instrument to lessons. I also provide guitar amplification.

*** Specialties ***
Berklee, Mel Bay, and Hal Leonard blues guitar method's. Schaum piano method. Hannon Technique. Pop, rock and jazz styles.

Tom was great during the first piano lesson. He was well prepared with materials to present to my son, who's taken other musical instruction for a couple of years in guitar & drums. He was able to assess his abilities, and work the lesson up to his ability within the first hour. My son enjoyed the interactive lesson!

Jonathan taught me when I was around middle school age and has left a lasting impression on how I approach the bass and music 10-ish years later. Under his tutelage I learned music theory, techniques, and all sorts of different genres and styles.

His lessons were always very professional. I always felt challenged, but not overwhelmed, by the material being taught. He also made it easy to be interested in the lessons; he would always ask if there's any song or genre that I wanted to learn and that sort of thing.

Overall, definitely a 5/5 top shelf educator and musician.

Hi! I have a Bachelors in Music Education and have experience teaching many beginning students! I have 3 children and decided to give up regular teaching to be with them. I believe that tone production is the most important area of study. It doesn’t matter what you can play if it doesn’t sound good. I can’t wait to help more students love to “play” on their instruments!

About Kim
Hello! I started my love of music at a young age with my family playing and singing at family functions. That turned into a wanting to learn how to play the flute and I went up through high school with that instrument. After high school I branched out more into vocal performance. After that I joined a traveling performance group. No not the circus! I joined Drum and Bugle Corp. They taught be how to play the Baritone and I marched a straight Baritone. I then learned the Mellophone and marched that after. Since I had experience with Drum Corp Marching I taught over 10 different marching programs over many different years. I graduated from College with my Bachelors in Music Education and was a music director until I had my children and decided to give up regular teaching. After all of the years I spent honing my craft I decided t
o continue giving lessons. I have the most experience with Flute, but can teach many other instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone/euphonium, piano.
I have worked with many different age groups and levels of ability. I am happy to help you learn to have fun and "play" your instrument!

Jessica’s Holistic Approach Piano Studio, LLC
A holistic and relevant approach to teaching piano and music skills to anyone.

Holistic Approach

The phrase “Holistic Approach” simply means that I teach the student, not the lesson. Every student has a different learning style, goal, strengths and weaknesses. It means I will teach all the elements of music in context of the big picture, not just learn the written language of music. It means I will think outside the box and customize the learning journey to help each student reach their own potential.

My goal is to facilitate students’ own exploration of the piano and its language so that they can learn to play anything independently. It’s a matter of “learning how to learn,” and making connections between all of the knowledge they gain. That comes through a functional, relevant introduction to music, as opposed to going through the motions of a method book alone, to memorize numerous isolated facts and repeat them ...

About Jess
I am a life-long musician with training in flute, piano, and vocal technique and performance. I attended Spring Arbor University received my associates in Piano Pedagogy in 2004. I am the pianist at Christ Church Fraser in Fraser, MI and I also play for weddings, funerals, and other events. I have been teaching piano since Iwas 13, when my teacher gave me referrals for beginners. I especially love to teach students with special needs and very young beginners.

Experienced teacher of 3 years, specializing in the beginner/intermediate piano student! All ages welcome. Lessons are customized and catered to the needs, goals, and personal tastes of each student. Not only will we be playing songs in no time, but we will be building a strong foundation of note reading, music theory, ear training, sight reading, technique, and more. Students can learn classical music, pop music, and music from many other styles. Students may also become involved in fun projects that make skills like improvisation and dictation come naturally. Send me a message to see if my training matches your goals!

About Paige
I am currently a junior at Oakland University studying piano performance, where I receive piano instruction from Dr. Tian Tian. My private piano training began at the age of five in Shelby Township. Since then, I've earned top ratings from various music organizations. I also made an appearance playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, k. 488 with the Oakland University Chamber Orchestra, and was a finalist in the Oakland Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition.
Students under my tutelage find that they learn quickly and can see their improvement from week to week. Students gain more confidence in their abilities and are excited to learn more constantly. They are able to play/write/create/understand music they love, as well as understand music from a more holistic, worldly perspective.
When I teach, I encourage creativity and an
excitement to learn. I look forward to meeting you and helping you unlock your potential in music!

I have 22 years experience playing the piano, and I would love to teach you or your loved one how to play the piano! I have been teaching piano lessons in my home for 4 years. My wife and I have created a warm, welcoming atmosphere for students and their families to be in during the lesson.

Beginning and intermediate students are welcome to contact me for more information. I look forward to speaking with you!

About Jared
Hello! My name is Jared Barringer. I was born and raised in the Lynchburg, Virginia, area where I fell in love with music. In Kindergarten I started piano lessons, and in 2nd grade I started trombone lessons. I had a passion to play both instruments in various capacities, including church, school, local gigs, and my local community youth symphony. I attended and graduated from college at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO. While I did not pursue a music degree, I had the opportunity to be involved in my church's worship band, and be in several different recruiting bands and singing groups for my college. I played the bass guitar and sang at dozens of different churches, youth camps, conferences, and events across the country to promote and recruit students for my college. In 2014 I moved to Michigan to start my career as a W
orship Pastor at a church. As a Worship Pastor, I am involved weekly in music planning and performance in my church. I love playing music with other people. In addition to my job as a Worship Pastor, I enjoy teaching music lessons in my home. Please contact me if you have any questions. I look forward to meeting you!

I am an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor studying piano performance and philosophy, with a strong interest in piano pedagogy of all levels. In pursuing these two degrees, I believe in a well-rounded musical education that includes story-telling, connecting music to relevant history and literature, and developing an emotive connection to music beyond just the technical in ways that are fun and engaging, especially in the beginning stages of learning.

That being said, I also emphasize the importance of having a solid foundation that allows for the capability to progress further. With teaching technique to beginners, I focus on fun exercises and activities that are easy for both the students and parents to understand and practice at home. Additionally, I believe that music theory is an essential building block to understanding how to read music effectively, so I begin every lesson with a short music theory lesson on basic harmony exercises that teach ...

About Ellen
I am an undergraduate senior at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor studying piano performance and philosophy, with strong passions for critical thinking, piano pedagogy, chamber music, and contemporary music. I recently won top prizes in the Sewanee Summer Music Festival Concerto Competition, the Camerata Artists International Virtuoso II Competition, and the American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition, where I was able to make my Carnegie Hall debut at Weill Recital Hall in 2018. I attended the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College Division in New York City for 10 years, and have been playing chamber music ever since I began there at the age of 7. I also attended the Brearley School for seven years, where I had rigorous academic training in the sciences, humanities, and leadership.

As a musician leading a double li
fe with substantial academic training and work, I truly value learning music alongside a well-rounded education, as I believe that music is the quintessential liberal art. Just on its own, learning to play an instrument requires discipline, focused attention, and hard work. With the combination of a strong education, students can understand not only how to execute what is on the page in front of them, but understand music in context and have the ability to understand what music can communicate to others and themselves. For this reason, I incorporate academic components like music theory, composer biographies, contextual history, philosophy, and literature in ways that are accessible and fun to learn at all ages. I hope to build up students who not only improve their playing, but acquire skill sets that make them smarter and carry over into all aspects of their lives.
