I am a patient, enthusiastic teacher in the following areas: piano, violin, cello, drums, music history, and music theory. I have taught vocal and instrumental music in both Catholic and Public schools, and in after-school programs, for 20 years, and have been giving private lessons for 9 years. I enjoy teaching music to all age students, and especially enjoy watching my students grow in their music ability.

I received my Bachelor of Arts from Marygrove College in Detroit in Language Arts with minors in Music Education and History,and my Masters Degree from Wayne State University in Education with emphasis on English as a Second Language and Sign Language for the Deaf. I have studied Music Education for K-5 at Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan.
I am also a published author of five children's books. You can find them through my
publisher Xlibris. com and they are called Peggy, The Three-Some Book 2, The Writer's Corner Book 3, The Golden Nugget Book 4, The 1940 Diary Book 7. When you go onto their web-site put in my pen name of N.K.Beckley and they should come up. Emily Book 5 will be out sometime in March 2017 and books 6,8.9.10 should be out by Fall of 2017. These are books for students in grades 4th through 8th grades and are also interactive books. I hope you enjoy them.
I also tutor for Take Lessons Grades 1 to Grade 8 all subjects except higher level Math.

*** Lesson Details ***
Piano: All students start out learning both Treble and Bass Clefs, and their lines and spaces. Each student then starts to learn their major scales with both right and left hand for piano. They also learn the note values, and are able to put them together in a song. I use Michael Aaron curriculum, which takes in all of the above and their technique lessons. I use all the Michael Aaron Book One, Lessons, Theory, Technic, and Performance Books for any student that is age 6 and above and I would ask that parents would buy them from Anderson Music in Dearborn, Michigan as well as any other lesson books listed below before they come to my home for lessons.

Cello: Using String Builder and Strictly Strings, the students learn the bass clef, lines and spaces, scales, and songs. Students will learn how to hold their bow correctly.I have played cello in the Waterford New Horizons Concert Band for over six years. I have also been the only cellist they have as a member of the band.

Violin: Using String Builder and Strictly Strings, students will learn lines and spaces of the treble clef, note values, major scales, and songs. Students will learn how to hold their bow correctly.

Drums: Using Rockin’ Rhythm Raps, and using drum pads instead of drums, students will learn the correct way to hold drum sticks and the rhythms of all the notes in the treble and bass clefs. They will also learn songs to play.

Kathy is a kind, patient and methodical teacher. She develops your piano skills with a structured program of theory and exercises geared toward constant improvement. She has helped me improve my piano technique throughout our time together. I have been able to play increasingly challenging pieces on a regular basis with her. I have recently returned from a week long stay at the Sonatina Piano Camp in Bennington VT and would like to notify all those piano students who may read this review as to the wonderful experience attending this camp can be. The camp takes adult piano students at all piano skill levels from beginner to well accomplished. Students stay in shared rooms (2-4 persons) which includes a piano in every room. Attendance is usually 18- 27 persons. The mansion itself is home to approx. 30 pianos. All meals are provided (and are outstanding) as well as piano classes and 4 lessons with concert pianists or university piano professors. Ample time is provided to practice a performance piece for the end of week performance night. Master classes are given on several evenings for those wishing to perform a work in progress piece for the attendees and the camp owner providing a public lesson.
I have found that the attending student group to be extremely supportive to all other students especially to those experiencing performance anxiety. Repeating attendees (from all over the country) have formed lasting friendships among themselves which have endured for years. Eight week long sessions are given throughout the year. In addition there are summer sessions for school aged youth
and also 4 short week sessions for those wishing to try a sampling of the camp. This past January was my 3rd year attending the camp and I will be returning again next year. My experiences at the camp have been truly unforgettable. More information can be obtained at Sonatina.com

Kathy has worked wonders with my piano lessons. In about a year and half of lessons Kathy has added scales and exercises along with musical selections designed to enhance specific skills, plus has worked with me on select piano works which I find interesting and challenging. My abilities and quality of playing been steadily improving. She is always positive and uplifting yet she still can point out areas of playing quality which require work. She gears lessons and advancement of difficulty to my specific rate of improvement. I couldn't ask for better and and am looking forward to continued progress over time for my improved musicianship.

I have grown up bilingual English and German, attending an international school from a very young age. My approach to teaching the program is cumulative and holistic, starting with an introduction to personal inventory management to the processing of large data sets using pivot tables, charts, and dashboards. My emphasis is on making the program as intelligible and transparent as possible to avoid frustration and intimidation. I use a lot of examples and visuals that are readily available.

I teach the touch-typing method that is the convention for most journalistic and input-intensive organizational settings. Most highly recommended! I found Wolfgang to be an excellent German instructor for me. As a mature (50+) professional I was looking for a native German with perfect mastery of English and impeccable teaching credentials. Wolfgang fit that description perfectly. He tailored the lessons to my needs and made them fun. Along with the excellent language lessons, I really enjoyed his stories about life in Germany, and especially his hometown of Berlin. When I teach ESL, I use the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach, because it is highly interactive and facilitates student communication. In other words it demands that students get a lot of practice in all of the 4 English language skills. In conjunction with CLT, I guide my students towards the use of purposeful, authentic language that is used in daily communication, whether it be for academic or professional purposes (task-based language teaching and learning).

In addition to teaching the 4 English language skills, I also prepare students to sit the IELTS's exams -- both the academic and the general training. Some of my students live throughout the United States and others live outside of the country.
