I have been teaching music lessons both privately in schools and in my home for over ten years.
I take beginners as well as intermediate students.
The students learn the lines and spaces of both Treble and Bass Clefs with me during their regular music lesson. They also learn the note values and the time and key signatures in both clefs. This is done at the same time of their music lesson.
I also use the tool of Music Ace Deluxe for their computer, which the students find a lot of fun, and it is a easy way to remember the theory that they have learned in their lesson. I also teach music theory as a memory skill by use of some games and flash cards. Music Theory is something they they will use for the rest of their lives.

About Kathy

I am a patient, enthusiastic teacher in the following areas: piano, violin, cello, drums, music history, and music theory. I have taught vocal and instrumental music in both Catholic and Public schools, and in after-school programs, for 20 years, and have been giving private lessons for 9 years. I e

A great passionate violin instructor.
Loquacious, but each moment of verbal conversation has a message that leads to the musical lessons of the day. I really appreciate her knowledge and skill. I am often reminiscent of my violin instructor as a child. Each session leaves me with the zeal to practice hard in eager preparation
for the next.

Kathy is a kind, patient and methodical teacher. She develops your piano skills with a structured program of theory and exercises geared toward constant improvement. She has helped me improve my piano technique throughout our time together. I have been able to play increasingly challenging pieces on a regular basis with her. I look forward to steadily improving my piano skills.

I have recently returned from a week long stay at the Sonatina Piano Camp in Bennington VT and would like to notify all those piano students who may read this review as to the wonderful experience attending this camp can be. The camp takes adult piano students at all piano skill levels from beginner to well accomplished. Students stay in shared rooms (2-4 persons) which includes a piano in every room. Attendance is usually 18- 27 persons. The mansion itself is home to approx. 30 pianos. All meals are provided (and are outstanding) as well as piano classes and 4 lessons with concert pianists or university piano professors. Ample time is provided to practice a performance piece for the end of week performance night. Master classes are given on several evenings for those wishing to perform a work in progress piece for the attendees and the camp owner providing a public lesson.
I have found that the attending student group to be extremely supportive to all other students especially to those experiencing performance anxiety. Repeating attendees (from all over the country) have formed lasting friendships among themselves which have endured for years. Eight week long sessions are given throughout the year. In addition there are summer sessions for school aged youth
and also 4 short week sessions for those wishing to try a sampling of the camp. This past January was my 3rd year attending the camp and I will be returning again next year. My experiences at the camp have been truly unforgettable. More information can be obtained at Sonatina.com

This is great for all students of guitar and music in general. It helps the student understand the mechanics of the instrument; and how music in general works and blends those sounds we love.
I highly recommend at least a basic idea of music theory for all students.

Bill is a delight to work with, he is patient and thoughtful. I am very pleased and fortuned to have found him as my teacher.

What a great teacher! He has several decades of experience in playing and teaching and it shows. He plays effortlessly and is very patient. He would be the ideal teacher for someone who is either new or already experienced with the guitar. Also, I feel like he can play most any song (and coming from a 70s/80s rock/metal fan, it's great). If you're on the fence about learning or continuing with lessons, give him a shot. You won't be disappointed!

Methods: Your goals are central to my teaching. I will work with you to make sure we are on the right path to achieving them. If you play an instrument, I'll do my best to make sure we apply what we go over to your instrument for practical mastery of the topics! This is something often missing in traditional theory teachings. I make sure to also get a good grasp of each student's learning style. I make custom learning materials for each lesson, which I spend lots of careful thought and time on to ensure the best experience.

Background: I have been playing for over 15 years and have a degree from Berklee College of Music. In addition to teaching, I have experience in music production, songwriting, and playing live and in the studio.

About Griffin

I am a multi-instrumentalist with a degree from Berklee College of Music. I took concentrations in music technology and music business, while also taking many opportunities to studying everything from music theory to songwriting and of course, guitar. Dan has a great style of instruction, he is very friendly and easy going and this makes taking the lessons very comfortable. Dan has great patience as I was too busy to do much preparation for the lessons but Dan made it work and I still progressed with the Danish language. "Gregg was my musical instructor during the early 1980ties. What I learned in a few lessons with him was more that I could have expected. I was primarily focused on percussion, of which his vast knowledge was highly dynamic. I learned about poly-rhythms, Indian ti-hies, and complex time signatures. He had available much reference material that he provided me. And over the years his musical insights have not only supplemented my inquiries, but made me a better musician and person. I hope you have a chance to study with Gregg, as you will be introduced to a new and better way of musicianship!"

"I started taking guitar lessons for the first time 10 months ago and am thankful I found such a great teacher in Ahmad. His positive attitude and love of music helps me stay engaged and lessons are productive and fun.

One of the great things about Ahmad is he listens to you and adjusts lesson content based on the feedback you provide. His ability to listen allows Ahmad to deliver a personalized lesson plan that incorporates your goals and gets you excited about what you are working on.

Ahmad also has taught me techniques to prevent and address minor aches that come up while learning to play. He takes this seriously and shows you how to prevent and resolve any issues that come up.

Overall, taking lessons from Ahmad has been a very positive experience. I look forward to continuing working with him to get better."

Understanding Music Theory Through Colors

Struggling to understand a music theory concept? Sometimes, all it takes is a tweak to the way material is taught for a student to really grasp it. Here, Pittsburgh voice teacher Jennifer V. reveals her unique ROYGBIV method...   Has your child ever come home in tears because they just couldn’t master a skill they learned in school? You listen, wipe their tears and tell them “Tomorrow is a new day,” and “I know you can do it!” But the next day he or she comes home upset about th …

How to Change the Key of a Song With and Without a Computer

What Does it Mean to Change a Key? To change a song’s “key” means to shift the whole musical system to a higher or lower position. This process is called “transposition.” Performers often need transpose a song to better fit their voices. That way, a performer with a naturally lower singing voice (like myself) will be able to more comfortably sing a song that was originally written for someone with a naturally higher voice. Or vice versa.  For singers, transposition feels fairly …

Why You Should Learn (At Least a Little) Music Theory

One of the most common weaknesses for amateur musicians is a lack of music theory knowledge. Many people assume that learning theory is difficult (it isn’t) that it has no practical purpose (it does), or even that it will actively make them worse at making music (quite the opposite). I’m here to convince you that learning a little about how music works is one of the most important skills you can develop and should absolutely be part of your daily practice routine. Here are five reasons w …
