I had about 4 piano lessons with Patty so far and I can already tell the difference. She's really friendly yet professional and can pin point what area I need to improve on and what types of practice I need to get there. All in all, I really recommend Patty to people who needs a piano coach regardless of level.

As a professional musician, songwriter and composer, I often use the piano/keyboard for composition, arrangement and sound design. Although my primary instruments are alto saxophone and guitar, having piano skills have been an asset in visualizing the musical spectrum.

I've had two years formal training on Piano, and taught 2nd Year Piano in NYC public and private schools.

About Benjamin
Hello Future Students!

I recently moved to Detroit from Ypsilanti. Before that I was in NYC for 10 years and during the '90s I was in Chicago. Those experiences vastly helped me develop Networking, Performance and Teaching experience.

Whether you want to pursue a Musical Career or simply learn how to Play your Favorite Tunes for friends and family, I am here as your Teacher and Guide. I teach at my own home or through the use of Skype. I hope to get my Car fixed soon!

As a Father of four, I have had the joy in teaching my children Guitar, Saxophone, Songwriting, Composition and Keyboard. As a parent I have found that Patience and Encouragement is sometimes the best form of support. It has been proven that learning Music helps develop intuition, self-awareness, and social skills as well as improve in other subjects not directly
related to the arts such as Mathematics and Science.

One of the most important aspects of playing Music is being able to Play by Ear. This has been a priceless gift that I have developed throughout my life and I encourage all musicians, young and old, to do the same. The use of simple Rhythmic Dictation and Ear Training exercises can do wonders for "picking out" Beats and Harmonies no matter what Genre we are interested in.

I attended music courses at The Boston School of Contemporary Music, Thomas Jefferson College (MI), and have a BA double majoring in Music Composition and English at Columbia College Chicago.

Besides touring internationally as a Guitarist and Saxophonist, I am a Songwriter. THIRD BORDER's "Sun of Water; Sea of Light" was selected to be nominated for the Grammy's as The Best Alternative Album of the Year in 2006. On this record, I played Guitar, Saxophone, sang Lead Vocal and wrote all Songs. So, if you are a songwriter, we can polish up your approach!

If you would like to learn how to compose a Solo, a Duet or Ensemble, I can get you started in a low-stress, one-step-at-a-time procedure. As a Composer, I have done Sound Design for Film, Dance, Spoken Word and Multi-media Performance - most notably with renowned poet Anne Carson and former members of The Merce Cunningham Dance Co. I am Composer and Conductor for New York City's first full-on Saxophone Orchestra; a 13-member ensemble.

I hope to talk to you soon!
Benjamin

My teaching style is relaxed with a forte on Patience and Encouragement. Though I have specific expectations on what needs to be learned, I gear each lesson towards the student's wishes and their personal direction in Creativity. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, I can guide you wherever you are headed!

For Guitar (acoustic or electric), you will learn the fundamentals of Music Theory, Chord Structure, varied Strumming and Picking Techniques, and Scale Positions to travel from one part of the neck to the other. Any song you wish to learn, I can teach!

For Saxophone, you will learn proper Embouchure technique, Notation, Music Theory, and Scale Patterns for improvisation. Whether you are interested in a Classical, Blues, Funk or Jazz approach, I can help you find your own sound that is both personal and professional.

I teach 2nd year Piano and Drums/Percussion directing you into Intermediate level.

For those leaning toward the experimental genres, I am well-versed in the use of Electronics. Much can be accomplished with my lessons on Sound-Scape Improvisation either as 1 on 1 or Group Workshops.

*** Studio Equipment ***
At Home Studio: music stands, metronome, guitar amps, electric and acoustic guitars, guitar tablature, staff music paper, a scanner for weekly homework. I can also record and send MP3s of our lessons to review at home if you wish.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students will need their own instrument, a mutually chosen music book to learn from, a metronome, and hopefully easy access to a keyboard (very helpful!)

*** Specialties ***
I am fluent in Rock genres, Blues, Beginning Jazz, Beginning Classical technique, Prepared Guitar, Electronics/Sound Art.

I began playing piano at 18 years old as a music major at Macomb Community College. I think I was the only one who was thrilled to be playing piano. I quickly advanced through the 3 group classes and then private lessons. I love teaching piano to students of all levels and all ages.

I teach all levels of piano. I currently use the Alfred books for the first 3 levels of books and then we move to the Snell piano repertoire books for the following levels. I also have many fun solo books for students.

About Heather
I love teaching, simply love teaching! I teach students of all ages. I teach piano, voice, clarinet, and saxophone. I have taught for over 25 years. My students have lots of opportunities for performance, if they choose to. We perform at Nursing Homes, Retirements, Festival of Trees, and Seasonal Recitals. There are at least 2 recitals a year, 1 at Christmas and 1 in the Spring, if enough participation, we often have one in summer with a party afterward. We also participate in the Michigan Music Association competition. I have also had students perform in Disney World in Florida!!! I have been in many musicals such as Annie, Gypsy, Rock Around the Clock. I have put on solo recitals. I am a member of my church choir. My students and I have fun while we are learning music! It is the best job ever.

I
use a variety of curriculum, which includes classical, broadway, some pop, new age, and jazz. After 3 to 6 months you will have a basic understanding of your instrument and will be ready to take off! I do ask students to keep track of your practicing so you can see your progress.

For piano:
I use the Alfred Basic Books for beginners and then we move to the Keith Snell books along with other supplemental books. If a student already is using a book, generally we will finish that book up so they won't have to purchase another set of books.

For Saxophone and Clarinet:
I use the Rubank books along with other supplemental books

For Voice:
I use the 24 Italian Songs and Arias, The Young Singer, and various Broadway books. Any pop music must be purchased by student as there is just way too much to chose from for me to have a lot of it.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home Studio: in living room with 2 pianos at entrance of house. Seating is available as well toys and a table for siblings.

*** Specialties ***
Voice - Classical & Broadway
Piano - classical
Clarinet - classical and pop
Saxophone - classical, pop, and some jazz

Music study helps people young and old to overcome shyness and build confidence. It empowers them as they refine their special talents.

We will study ear training .

My Method: Listen, Sing, Clap, Play, Read and Write. With these tools you can look deeper into the elements that make up music.

Children don't learn to read before they can talk. So why should anyone have to try to read before they can play?

That is how music is taught, traditionally and why a huge percentage of students just quit or have a miserable time with piano lessons. Music should be fun. Period.

We will always have a lot of fun, but there is a lot to do, so we need to be efficient and not waste t
ime. My teaching method is a combination of the best methods I have found. It is backed up with the same solid principles that I received when I was a student myself. If you choose to continue and pursue a classical education at a high level, you will be well-prepared.

Helping students to play by ear and to be able to read basic chord charts and beginning and intermediate piano methods along with theory and technique exercises. Special areas include Pop, Rock Jazz and Worship music.

About Tom
I have been teaching guitar and piano for many years in the Metro Detroit area. I have also played professionally in many local nightclub and wedding bands as well as having toured with "Bob Seger" as his lead guitarist/writer/vocalist. I have done recording sessions for "Motown" as well as having studied under "Joe Messina", a legendary Motown guitarist with the original "Funk Brothers." I take great pleasure in mentoring, training and equipping students with the necessary musical skills to achieve at the personal and or professional level according to the specific student's interest, desire and goals. I tailor my teaching methods according to the student's ability and musical preference, and can teach most anything from classic rock, to pop, classical, oldies, jazz, etc. Many of my students have gone on to play at the professional leve
l, and one, in particular, has become a music professor at "Berklee School of Music". Another former student plays with the band: "Thirty Seconds To Mars." I have also been able to assist those students who have a desire to introduce vocals while playing their instrument. I am also able to provide personal assistance in songwriting when needed.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very easy to get along with during lessons, however I can provide extra encouragement and motivation the student needs based on their specific goals for taking lessons, whether it be for personal enjoyment or for the purpose of making music their career. I believe that learning music can be fun even as a serious venture, and therefore I incorporate humor when appropriate. The curriculum I use includes: "Berklee, Mel Bay, and Hal Leonard" methods for guitar. For Piano I use "Schaum and Thompson" piano methods as well as Hannon for technique. Additionally, I invite students to suggest personal favorite songs of interest of their choosing as a motivational tool to aid them learning from the music that inspires them. I find this very helpful for students in developing a good ear as well as sparking motivation to practice as they learn from their favorite musical artists in addition to learning the fundamentals of the instrument.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide music method books/sheet music etc. Students would need to own and bring their own instrument to lessons. I also provide guitar amplification.

*** Specialties ***
Berklee, Mel Bay, and Hal Leonard blues guitar method's. Schaum piano method. Hannon Technique. Pop, rock and jazz styles.

Experienced Violin teacher of 30 years available for eager students aged 2 through adult! I teach using the Suzuki Piano Method through book two. I structure the lessons around each student so that they are taught at their level and speed while encouraging and challenging them to excel further.

About Charlene
Over 25 years violin teaching experience. I have successfully taught students ages 3 to adult. Anyone can learn to play the violin. Lessons in a comfortable setting in my studio.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are taught in my home in a comfortable setting. Parents are encouraged to sit in on lessons and are expected to help their child practice. I teach the Suzuki Method and the Suzuki book and recording are required. I will change details to suit a student, for instance I teach note reading long before a traditional Suzuki teacher would and I will add non-Suzuki materials into lessons if needed.

Elements of the Suzuki Philosophy
- every child (or adult) can learn
- listening and encouragement are essential
- parents are the real teachers, I am the director
- Love. I love each student and teach through my love
- accep
t where your child is, but challenge them to be better
- constant review and repetition of materials is essential to learning
- compete only with yourself, not your peers or parents
- character is developed as the child gains knowledge and ability

When learning music, your child is taught true self-confidence. They know they truly have achieved a great thing when they learn to play an instrument. The things they learn, such as patience and perseverance, will pour over into all areas of their lives

*** Studio Equipment ***
Young students are started out on a play violin so they can learn the proper positions before they graduate to their real violin. I will assist parents in finding the right instrument for their child.

*** Specialties ***
I have never found a child who couldn't learn music. Obviously, some will learn faster than others, but with the right encouragement and help from their parents, any child can learn to play the violin.

If you cannot read music but would like to learn how to play the piano I teach beginning adults and children how to understand the fundamentals of reading music and playing the piano. If you would like to learn how to improvise, I also teach adults how to understand the structure of music so you can play any song that you like "by ear," and add chords to support the melody. Having the ability to sit at the piano and play any song that you know is a lot of fun and not that difficult to do.

About Helen
If you like to sing and want to learn how to be a better singer, you don't have to have any previous experience or training. I specialize in teaching beginning singers of any age how to sing using the classic technique that is the foundation for singing any genre or style of music from Bach to Broadway. You will learn how to make a beautiful sound when you sing and work on presentation, acting, diction, style, and artistry choosing music that you like and building a repertoire of music that you will enjoy singing.

Training for beginning voice students is significantly different than it is for those who have had training. Some have beautiful natural voices but they strain to hit the high notes, Exercises build breath support and slowly increase your range Music is carefully chosen to help you sing with ease build a stronger more reson
ant voice

Some children also have beautiful natural voices, but they are not ready for the kind of voice training that is appropriate for an adult. A child's voice is small in every sense of the word. They cannot produce the volume or range that an adult can without straining their voice. They can learn the fundamentals of music, how to read music, how to count, rhythm and musicality. The music chosen for them needs to be easy to sing and age-appropriate Songs that a child likes that are too high can easily be re-arranged in a different key so they can sing music that they like without straining their voice.

If you are considering voice lessons for you or your child, it is a good way to develop musicianship and build a repertoire of music that you will enjoy singing. The training will be enjoyable and very effective. You will begin to see an improvement in technique after the first lesson.

I was trained in voice performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music and hold a degree from Case Western Reserve University where in art and music theory. I have more than twenty years of professional experience including singing with a Chorale that performed with the Cleveland Symphony and performances as a soloist for choirs in Ohio and Michigan.

I founded and directed the Academie des Beaux-Arts, a performing arts school in Birmingham, and the Actors Alliance Theatre, a professional theater company that gave many young people an opportunity to gain experience working with professional actors. I have a combination of skills in voice and theater performance that sets me apart as a teacher who can help you develop a better singing voice and learn how to perform with artistry.

Helen B taught me for the past year and a half. She was not only a very good teacher but also very patient. She used different methods if I did not understand the first way. I learned various tricks that would make sure I enunciated properly and could sing louder without using too much breath. She always encouraged me if I felt like I did not do as well as I wanted to do, and gave me various exercises to do and videos to see when I get home to practice. By using these techniques, I was always sure that I had learned something every lesson. Overall, I highly recommend anyone who wants to learn how to sing that Helen B is the one who you are looking for.

My students consistently stand out at local competitions and festivals. Some have gone on to careers in music, others still play after ending lessons, for their own enjoyment.

In addition to my 30 years experience as a traditional piano teacher to students of all ages and levels, I have extensive background in The Taubman Approach. I have studied with the most preeminent experts in this approach to piano technique and am now in the teacher training program in the Keyboard Wellness Seminar. This approach to piano technique is peer reviewed and based on sound physiological and physical principles. Students who study this approach are able to maximize virtuosity while avoiding or reversing injury.

About Rachel
Rachel Morin is a performing pianist, composer, adjudicator, clinician, church musician, and teacher. Her students have won many competitions and some have gone on to become respected musicians at prestigious colleges and religious institutions.

Dr. Morin teaches at Macomb community college and at her home studio in Troy, Michigan. While she upholds high standards for her students, Dr. Morin believes in respecting the individual needs and unique qualities of each one. Students learn a mixture of classical and popular music and are introduced to the fundamentals of music theory and improvisation/ composition.

Dr. Morin offers a variety of performance opportunities for students. As a member of NFMC, MTNA, the Vivace Music Club and the American Guild of Music, she regularly enters children in a variety of competitions if that is what they
choose to do.

As a clinician, Dr. Morin has given several lectures around the state on the Taubman approach to piano technique. Dr. Morin is one of only 2 or 3 pianists within the state of Michigan to have worked one on one with the late Dorothy Taubman, considered by many to be the world’s leading expert on the prevention and healing of music related hand injuries as well as a master coach of leading concert pianists. (see New York Times article)

As a performer, Dr. Morin plays regularly with the Macomb Symphony and has also given numerous recitals in the United States and abroad. She has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Macomb Symphony, Southfield youth symphony and the Grinnell Orchestra.

In the last five years, Dr. Morin decided to write down some of “those tunes that are always running through my head.” To date she has written about 40 compositions, some of which have been performed at local churches. Stay tuned. This has been an exciting development for her students, some of whom have their own compositional aspirations.
