Students learn the basics through professional ability to play their instrument. Knowledge of what they are playing is just as important as what they are playing. I give them that knowledge and ability.

About Damien
Orlando-based composer and guitarist Damien has made a name for himself as a writer of scores for film, theater and dance productions.;A graduate of Music Composition at SUNY Purchase (New York) and Musicology at the University College of Dublin (Ireland). Years of touring internationally and score writing has given Damien the experience and work ethic to share his musical knowledge and abilities with others. Producing 4 cds and appearing on countless others' cds and compilations; Damien can share not only his musical/theoretical talents, but his experience in producing, recording, writing, and performing live.

*** Lesson Details ***
Damien is a very patient and moderately, laid back teacher. He will teach what you want to learn, yet give you suggestions on other avenues to approach. Basics lead to complete knowledge of any subject. S
tarting from the beginning of what a student knows and moving forward step by step will only lead to perfection in their lessons. Having fun doing this, is the only way to keep a student focused and progressing. Enjoyment is the number one focus of Damien's lessons. If a student isn't enjoying and having fun with their lessons then they will not progress.
Damien teaches ages of 5-99. You are never too young or old to learn. Damien's main focus is guitar and music theory

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect the student to provide their own guitar (if necessary) and a notebook
I have private parking for my students, so they don't have to worry about parking, ever !
*** Specialties ***
I have been taught, on a college level, of classical, jazz, ethnic musics. I specialize in guitar, theory, composition.

Damien is extremely professional and does an excellent job explaining the fundamentals. As Albert Einstein said, "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." Damien has a way of explaining concepts so they are easily understood and retained, even for more complex subjects.

From my lessons the student should expect solid knowledge, fun time with the instrument and great teacher.

About Albino
Albino was born in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, a country in southern Africa known for its rich musical and cultural heritage. Fueled by the resourcefulness and determination that have always characterized Mozambicans, he built his first guitar at 16 from a 5-liter can of oil, scrap wood, and strings made out of electrical cords.

Drawn to the sounds of neighborhood street musicians in Maputo, Albino began to play in a number of local bands. As with his home-made guitar, Albino wanted to combine styles and incorporate diverse elements in his music. For his talents to grow, he knew he needed experience new places, cultures, and sounds.

While studying music education and Performance at Universidade Eduardo Mondlane in Mozambique, he heard about the Berklee School of Music in Boston, USA, where he could expand his musical horizons
. Soon after, he was one of the first students to receive a full scholarship to Berklee through the African Scholars program. In 2009, he settled in Boston, Massachusetts.

At Berklee, he was exposed to a variety of influences, but wanted to go deeper into the roots of jazz and expand his knowledge of music. He auditioned and was selected to participate in the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, which is directed by Danilo Perez and the residency teachers, including Joe Lovano John Patitucci, and Terri Lyne Carrington. The Institute emphasizes an artist's original vision in jazz, and has helped Albino find his own unique voice in the art form.

Albino still felt the absence of his own Mozambican traditions in his music. With the help of his mentors, Richard Bona and Lionel Loueke, two of the most prominent African musicians in the United States of America today, he began to bridge that gap.

Today, Albino's music succeeds in combining many disparate parts into an organic whole. It incorporates his musical experiences from Mozambique, the U.S., and many other places around the world, combining rhythmic patterns and musical concepts to create a unique Moz-Jazz sound. He will always continue to combine and capture the energies of different musical traditions to create a unified and original musical style.

Albino's original composition “Mozambique Dance” was recorded by Jazz Revelation Records, a student-run record label at the Berklee College of Music, for the 8th annual album released in 2011. He also recorded “Awusiwana,” his own composition, for the Berklee 2012 summer album. His debut album, also called Mozambique Dance, is to be released in Spring 2013.

Albino is an active musician, and has performed in several countries including Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Italy, the U.S., and Mexico. He has also produced and recorded various projects in Mozambique and in the United States. In 2012, he will graduate from Berklee College with a degree in Music Production & Engineering and Performance, and a minor in Acoustics and Electronics.

Picking up the acoustic guitar for the first time? Or pick up the acoustic guitar for the first time...in a long time? No problem, let's get you stringed up and back into the game. Each lesson is simple and effective, guaranteed to get your fingers in shape and able to reach those frets you had never reached before--sounds a little bit like the intro narrative to Star Trek...?

About Ben
EDUCATION

I graduated from California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) with a B.A. in Public Administration (what does that have to do with the Flamenco guitar?); prior to that degree, I received an A.A. in Political Science (again, what does that have to do with Flamenco guitar?). Currently I am in the process of completing my M.P.A. at CSUF (again…?). The answer to the aforementioned question is that, I enjoy politics and government work—it’s my profession. Nonetheless, I enjoy Flamenco most of all, and I want you to enjoy it too! ¡Vamonos!

EXPERIENCE

The guitar is a wonderful instrument, which I began playing at the age of six. I began my studies with the classical guitar for the first 15 years of playing; and for these past 15 years I have studied the flamenco guitar—playing various concerts, events, and giving professional
instruction.

My experience as a guitarist in Southern California has led me to explore different genres of music, playing for various musical groups ranging from surf rock, concert band, and jazz. As a co-founding member of the band, Ballistico, we opened up for acts such as Dick Dale and the Del Tones, the Grandmothers of Invention (featuring members of Frank Zappa’s original band, “Mothers of Invention”), Avenged Sevenfold, and many others.

EXPERTISE

Having received first hand instruction from the some of the most sough-after professional Flamenco guitarists living and working in Spain (and touring internationally), I offer each of my students an unrivaled degree of authenticity in technique, tone, and style.

LEARNING MATERIALS

Each lesson includes tablature and audio recordings of the material that we will have gone over together. It is completely normal that only a day or two after a lesson—or even a few hours afterwards—the mind can (and will) quickly forget the material. Don’t worry! I’ve got you covered. By having the accompanying written and audio material with you after each lesson, you will be well-prepared for a successful next lesson!

Had some platform issue to start even though I'd prepped and tested days in advance, called Ben and patiently got me onboard. He let the lesson go on for extra time to make up for the glitch at the start. In the lesson, he has patience with beginners and still covered a LOT of new techniques (new to me anyway.) Got me psyched up to learn. Already looking forward to next lesson.

I want to have you walking out of the lesson happy, and excited to go home and practice some new material. With me you'll learn about guitar, but you'll also learn about music and how playing can help you in life (perseverance, basic math foundations, etc.)

About Chris
I am a jazz guitarist based out of beautiful Los Angeles, California. I received and Associate of Arts degree in Music in 2015, and have been pursuing a bachelors in Jazz Studies since then.

While in community college I really grew into my own as a musician and discovered that I love jazz. Not only the music, but the history of how it formed as well as the differences from classical music. When at school I stood out from the other guitarists because I was hungry to learn and that attitude will hopefully follow me for the rest of my life.

Thats what I'd hope to pass on the students; that knowledge, be it music, english, math, physiology, etc. is the key to everything. And that it doesn't have to be all stuffy and boring! I tailor my lessons to the student wether its guitar, piano, ukulele, etc. and my main objective is to learn and have
fun, so the learning is reinforced with good natured thoughts. This will set up the student to actually want to practice!

As a musician I've been in a couple of groups, and starting to get a jazz group together recently. I also try to utilize the computer to produce when possible so I can learn about that aspect of music. My passion is improvisation/composition, because I hope to one day leave songs behind that people can play forever and be influenced by them like so many have influenced me.

Lastly, he does a fantastic job of making sure I'm having fun while learning music.

My son has never played a musical instrument so I wasn't sure how this would go, but Christopher has really connected with him. He came home and actually practiced during the week! And Christopher always comes out after the lesson and gives me a little update which matters to me as a mom. I also appreciate how he doesn't just boot him out the door at the end of the lesson. AND my son is actually talking about music! Definitely learning more than just some chords. Good instructor who obviously loves and respects music. :)

Music is all about feeling. My teaching style is very much based around what makes you comfortable. While I know how important the fundamentals of music are, I also believe that we develop our own style and comfortability as we progress and build our skill. I focus on everything from the ground up. You can never ask too many questions, and I am here to help you find your musical identity! :)

About Layla
"Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy" - Ludwig Van Beethoven.

Hey there! Thanks for stopping by my profile! My name is Layla - like the awesome Eric Clapton song :) I am an aussie residing in the big state of Texas and have been playing and teaching music for 10 years. When I was 12 years old, my parents bought me an electric guitar for my birthday. I learnt to play and I was lucky enough to have a talented brother who was learning the drums, so we were able to play together a lot and learn from each other. Jamming out to Nirvana in our upstairs bedroom was a very frequent occurrence – smells like teen spirit was the first song we learnt. This started the basis of the next 5 years of our musical careers. The first band I was in was called “ The Nobodies”, 3 teenagers playing cover gigs at pubs and clubs, learni
ng the ropes young, and I could never be more thankful for it. This band eventually changed names to “The River City Rumblers” and in the year of 2010 we appeared on national Australian Television on the show “Australia’s Got Talent”. It was really an amazing experience and exposed me to not only a huge audience, but the music industry itself. I continued to pursue my musical passions for years to come, this included teaching. I began teaching guitar to young students (around 8 years and up) with one on one lessons. I taught out of my home in the lounge room at first, then out of a studio that we eventually built. I also had the opportunity to teach young groups in a classroom environment at a local school. I would teach groups of 3-5 kids ranging from ages 6-12, split up into age groups. I moved around Australia a little to tried and break into the music industry, then moved back home, studied, until life brought me my husband and now I am in the USA. Somewhere along the line though, adulthood got in the way. I lost music for a while, and got caught up in the 9-5 jam. I have decided it is time to put my passion first. I absolutely adore teaching. It is so very rewarding to me and I hold it very dear to my heart. Combine it with music, and I am living the dream! I would love the chance to share that with you or whomever you may be reading this for. Thank you so much for your time and I look forward to meeting my future students!

He does a good job of mixing music theory, technical exercises, while still being open and even encouraging the student to working on styles and pieces they are interested in and enjoy. Zach is great about asking the student what they want to learn and work on, while still making sure that they are always learning something new and always pushing themselves. My sole initiative and expectation is to delivery quality, student focused music education. The student and I will build a solid foundation by getting to know the fundamentals of the instrument, building muscle memory, practice, and having loads of fun in the meantime.

Learning music can be challenging and daunting, and I always strive to create a low pressure and highly engaging and encouraging environment for positive personal growth. Learning music is not just about the music, it’s a creative outlet and a way to express yourself and learn more about who you really are. I take great pride in being able to be a part of cultivating that experience.

My teaching style follows the Montessori method; the focus is on fostering learning where the student is larger part of the process. Each student learns at a different pace, is interested in different goals, and has individual and unique needs. I take the care to listen and guide, giving each student unique curricula to work from. ...

About Corey
I started my musical journey in Elizabeth, CO when I was in 6th grade playing the trumpet. From that point on I knew that music was always going to be a huge part of my life. I come from a family of musicians and artists and have developed a strong appreciation for art as a fundamental part of our lives. Art is a great form of expression and communication, and in some ways a means of therapy.

After playing trumpet and then moving on to the French horn, my instructors could see my dedication and growth within the craft. They are the ones who really helped push me in the direction I went in and their encouragement and dedication impacted my life in such a positive way. I started studying jazz and playing in the high school jazz band. From there I wanted more, so I auditioned for a magnet high school in Denver, the Denver School of the
Arts. After transferring to DSA I was able to form incredible bonds with teachers and educators.

Being so inspired by those who helped guide and teach me I decided that I wanted to teach and pass on the same care and guidance I received. I began teaching private lessons at the age of 16 and had many students from ages 6 to 45. It was there that I developed a passion for working with youth.

After High school I was accepted with scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston MA. At Berklee I was able to study under some of the best musicians in the world and focus my studies on education and performance. It was during my time at Berklee that I had discovered after school music education opportunities in Boston, and went from volunteering to running a summer camp, and eventually becoming the Music Program director working with funding from an amazing group called the Music and Youth initiative. As Music director I taught youth age 8-18 in a variety of settings. I also played a major role in creating literature and teaching guides for the program. One on one instruction, group lessons, recording studio time, ensembles, and seasonal showcases were all ways to teach and guide our students.
