Private Cello Teacher

I have been teaching cello privately for over ten years. Along with that I teach the theory behind it as well.
I use the books Strictly Strings for Cello Book 1, and String Builder for Cello Book I. I also use some outside music that I have on hand when the student is ready for it.
I love teaching anyone who wants to learn any instrument. I also teach the theory along with it so the student will become a good cello player.

About Kathy

I am a patient, enthusiastic teacher in the following areas: piano, violin, cello, drums, music history, and music theory. I have taught vocal and instrumental music in both Catholic and Public schools, and in after-school programs, for 20 years, and have been giving private lessons for 9 years. I

A great passionate violin instructor.
Loquacious, but each moment of verbal conversation has a message that leads to the musical lessons of the day. I really appreciate her knowledge and skill. I am often reminiscent of my violin instructor as a child. Each session leaves me with the zeal to practice hard in eager preparation
for the next.

Kathy is a kind, patient and methodical teacher. She develops your piano skills with a structured program of theory and exercises geared toward constant improvement. She has helped me improve my piano technique throughout our time together. I have been able to play increasingly challenging pieces on a regular basis with her. I look forward to steadily improving my piano skills.

I have recently returned from a week long stay at the Sonatina Piano Camp in Bennington VT and would like to notify all those piano students who may read this review as to the wonderful experience attending this camp can be. The camp takes adult piano students at all piano skill levels from beginner to well accomplished. Students stay in shared rooms (2-4 persons) which includes a piano in every room. Attendance is usually 18- 27 persons. The mansion itself is home to approx. 30 pianos. All meals are provided (and are outstanding) as well as piano classes and 4 lessons with concert pianists or university piano professors. Ample time is provided to practice a performance piece for the end of week performance night. Master classes are given on several evenings for those wishing to perform a work in progress piece for the attendees and the camp owner providing a public lesson.
I have found that the attending student group to be extremely supportive to all other students especially to those experiencing performance anxiety. Repeating attendees (from all over the country) have formed lasting friendships among themselves which have endured for years. Eight week long sessions are given throughout the year. In addition there are summer sessions for school aged youth
and also 4 short week sessions for those wishing to try a sampling of the camp. This past January was my 3rd year attending the camp and I will be returning again next year. My experiences at the camp have been truly unforgettable. More information can be obtained at Sonatina.com

I’m passionate about music education and I am a full time music teacher and active performer throughout the SE Michigan area. In the summers I teach cello and music improvisation at the Cellochanwoods Cello retreat in Vermont.

Lessons are designed and catered around each student and I believe in a well rounded approach in teaching music. While everyone will learn a solid foundation of note reading and playing technique, lessons also pull from sources such as music theory, ear training, music history, etc.

I hold a Masters in Music Performance from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London and a Bachelors in Music Performance from the University of Michigan.

Whether you’re looking to learn a new hobby, or further your musical skills, I’d love to help out. All levels welcome!

I am an emotive cellist with two decades experience. I have toured internationally performing my original works including London, Paris, and Berlin. As a member of the Pierce Quartet I regularly arrange and perform music for weddings and other special occasions. I love sharing classical music with all levels of students. Lessons with me are calm, meditative experiences where we use peaceful techniques to enter into the heart of music.

About Lenna

Hello musicians! My name is Lenna and I am pleased to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2011 and have loved helping my students improve their tone, learn better sight reading skills, and become more relaxed in performance. Lenna is a great cello teacher. My son has been learning cello with Lenna for about a year now. And he is more and more passionate about the instrument. Lenna is always patient, thoughtful and creative to teach kids to be more enthusiastic on music. I recommend Lenna to everyone who wants to learn cello.
Marianna
Someone I trust recommended Lenna to me for a cello teacher - I am an adult beginner and I really knew nothing at all about how to play or read music.
Lenna was the most patient, understanding and fun teacher I could have asked for. She understood what I needed and got me from barely able to hold the bow to playing Rigoletto in front of a small audience in 6 months! THAT is no small feat. She loves playing, she loves teaching and she understands the human condition. A very good combination indeed. I highly recommend you hire her as your cello teacher, or your child's cello teacher, or your next door neighbor's cello teacher.

Lenna is a terrific cello teacher! I feel lucky to have found her through this site. I was starting from zero with the cello and she was able to guide me through the Suzuki book to be able to play some songs -- even sight-reading. While I have a long way to go, I appreciate her focus and dedication to improving my playing skills. Highly recommended!

I am a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston.
I'm currently accepting students in San Francisco and surrounding areas for cello, piano, guitar, beatboxing, and live looping.

I have a patient and relaxed attitude toward teaching with an emphasis on a balance between having fun while learning and developing the methodology of practice and discipline.
Lessons are taught in your home or at my studio in the Mission District.

About Joseph

Joey is an anomaly in the world of cellists. By combining cello with beatboxing, he has created a unique genre: Classical Hip Hop.  Joey records live on stage with a loop pedal and produces intricate tapestries of harmony, melody, and rhythm. His beatboxing (vocal percussion) and funky cello

Joe was able to work with my daughter to approach some very complex material (using Abelton live to live loop and edit her songs) at a pace and with a vocabulary and tone that completely defused an otherwise intimidating situation. His calm, steady manner spiced with just the right touch of dry wit and his keen ear for a mean beat kept the lessons fun and very productive. Joey's not just a fantastic and unique musician and teacher, however, he's a great person and a fantastic influence to have in your life.

Joey is the best! A lesson from Joey is always a highlight of the week. I'd be surprised if you don't feel the same based on his talent, his warmth, his humor, and his intelligence.
Courtney
My 10 year old son has loved his piano lessons with Joey. We had excellent in-person cello lessons in the past, and the video piano lessons have been just as effective. Joey has several camera angles set up in his home so my son can see Joey's hands on the keyboard in real time during the lesson. We get a Zoom link for each visit and a recording of the visit afterwards, which helps with practicing during the week. I highly recommend Joey as a patient and talented instructor! The lessons have been a great activity / distraction for my active son during shelter in place. It's a win-win!

I am a string specialist. That means I teach and play violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele and piano. I earned B.A. earned from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley Colorado where I was a double major in classical guitar and double bass. In my senior year I was the recipient of the Annual Concerto Contest where I performed the "Concerto in A Major" on double bass with the University orchestra for the spring concert. I have played in both professional and semi-professional orchestras in Colorado and Arizona. I believe that any student will practice more if he or she likes the music they are playing. Periodically I will ask a student to give me a name of a piece of music that they would like to learn how to play. I notate it for them, often simplifying the rhythm and chords in Finale NotePad and give it to them free of charge. I teach students how to play music on their given instrument. Not just how to play the instrument but working on ...

It was awesome! Great pace and great mix of technical and practical.

Victor has been an amazing teacher. He is extremely knowledgeable not only about violin, but about practically every other stringed instrument there is. He also has an amazing grasp of musical theory, and has really helped me learn about my instrument. He has also helped me grow as a student. He keeps me interested in the music, and still challenges me to keep improving. I have had other music teachers, but he is definitely the best I've had.

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
