In lessons its really all about you and what you would like to learn. I am comfortable teaching all ages and helping you learn more about the music that you love. About Zaneta
I am originally from Chicago, Illinois and now reside in the Maryland/Washington D.C. area. I started singing publicly around the age of 5 and playing piano at 9. From there I have toured overseas to various parts of Europe and across the United States. I have learned various techniques from Classical, to Gospel, to Country, to R&B, to Pop/Rock, to Musical Theatre and many more. In addition to just singing them myself I can effectively teach others the how to sing their favorite genre as well. I have taught for music and arts, Andrews Air Force base and several local music schools. I also help students preparing for college auditions, and recitals. In addition, I have experience with social media and online presence which can allow vocal singers the opportunity to sing with others and create various performance recordings. On the academi
c side of things I help tutor students in a variety of subjects and coach them to achieve better grades, and higher test scores to create an attractive college preparation portfolio.

It's Been a while!

Just had my first lesson with Zaneta and it was excellent! I felt very prepared going into this lesson, as she contacted me earlier in the week just to find out what my expectations were. The time management of our lesson was also very good. We did some warm up and got right to work. Then she gave me time to ask any questions I might have (also during the lesson if need be). Overall, this was a great experience considering it's been a while since I have attempted to train/sing with my voice.

Looking forward to upcoming lessons!!!

I studied Voice under Tamara Whitley for 6 years and under Charles Livesay at Spring Arbor University for 2 years.I have been teaching Piano lessons for 10+ years and Voice lessons for nearly as long. I then taught music at West Highland Christian Academy for K-12 students and Home School Band and Choir for upper elementary students. Along with teaching, I lead worship at West Highland Baptists Church and have accompanied for several community plays and student scholarship events.

"I enjoy all kinds of music and really want to share my love of music with people of all ages. My goal is to get people excited to learn and
expand their abilities through voice and piano and to prepare future performers and teachers as well."

*** Lesson Details ***
For vocal lessons, I mostly teach Contemporary, Pop and Broadway as well as worship styles. I incorporate the fundamentals into my everyday teaching style and help the student to grow in their technical ability through application in each song they study. I teach the student how to use their voice correctly as well as how to have good stage presence and performance ready ability.

I teach beginner piano students from age 5 through method books as well as more advanced students in either Classical styles or Contemporary styles. Some students have the desire to be concert pianists or to teach piano themselves, others just wish to play with a band or play songs which they can sing to. Both styles are valuable skills to learn. I will discuss with the student which direction they would like to go and decide together what the student would like to learn.

I have been in musicals from the time I was a child until the end of college. I have been in Annie, Gypsy, just to name a few. I love musicals so much, it is one of my favorite genres of music.

I teach all levels of musical theatre. I use a variety of books that are specifically for each level and each voice.

About Heather
I love teaching, simply love teaching! I teach students of all ages. I teach piano, voice, clarinet, and saxophone. I have taught for over 25 years. My students have lots of opportunities for performance, if they choose to. We perform at Nursing Homes, Retirements, Festival of Trees, and Seasonal Recitals. There are at least 2 recitals a year, 1 at Christmas and 1 in the Spring, if enough participation, we often have one in summer with a party afterward. We also participate in the Michigan Music Association competition. I have also had students perform in Disney World in Florida!!! I have been in many musicals such as Annie, Gypsy, Rock Around the Clock. I have put on solo recitals. I am a member of my church choir. My students and I have fun while we are learning music! It is the best job ever.

*** Lesson Details ***
I
use a variety of curriculum, which includes classical, broadway, some pop, new age, and jazz. After 3 to 6 months you will have a basic understanding of your instrument and will be ready to take off! I do ask students to keep track of your practicing so you can see your progress.

For piano:
I use the Alfred Basic Books for beginners and then we move to the Keith Snell books along with other supplemental books. If a student already is using a book, generally we will finish that book up so they won't have to purchase another set of books.

For Saxophone and Clarinet:
I use the Rubank books along with other supplemental books

For Voice:
I use the 24 Italian Songs and Arias, The Young Singer, and various Broadway books. Any pop music must be purchased by student as there is just way too much to chose from for me to have a lot of it.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home Studio: in living room with 2 pianos at entrance of house. Seating is available as well toys and a table for siblings.

*** Specialties ***
Voice - Classical & Broadway
Piano - classical
Clarinet - classical and pop
Saxophone - classical, pop, and some jazz

Classic singing technique and good performance skills are at the heart of what I teach. The best singers on Broadway develop a unique sound and style that requires both good singing technique and the ability to put feeling and emotion into your performance. Lessons start with exercises to improve breath control to support your voice and help you sing on key. Progressive vocal exercises will help you increase the timbre and quality of your voice and increase your range making it easier to hit those high notes. You will also do exercises to improve your diction. As you develop your performing skills you will learn how to sing from the heart using phrasing to put feeling into the words and connect with the audience. As your voice develops you will build a repertoire of Broadway-style music that you can use for auditions.

About Helen
I am a classically trained soprano who has been teaching voice for students of all ages for more than two decades. Classic voice technique and performing skills are at the heart of what I teach. I studied Voice Voice Performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music with the renown Mezzo-Soprano, Marie Simmelink Kraft. I hold a degree in Art and Music from Case Western Reserve University where I studied Music Theory and sang in University Theater Productions. My professional experience includes singing in a professional Chorale that performed with the Cleveland Symphony and performing as a soloist with choirs in Ohio and Michigan. As the founder and director of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Birmingham and The Actors Alliance Theatre, a professional Equity company, I directed the performing arts programs and became known for my patience an
d my ability to bring out the best in students. I use positive teaching methods that help you develop self-confidence and good singing technique. Every lesson includes a warm-up and exercises that help you develop the breath control you need to support your voice and sing on pitch. A progressive series of vocal exercises help you learn how to place your voice so you can make a beautiful sound. Vocal exercises that develop the timbre and quality of your voice are also introduced. As your singing technique improves you will develop a repertoire of music that you like to sing. My passion is helping you learn how to enjoy singing using good technique and develop as an artist with the ability to sing expressively and connect with the audience as you perform.

If you enjoy singing and would like to learn how to sing better, it's never too late to start. I would like to work with you and help you become the singer and artist that you have always wanted to be.

Helen B taught me for the past year and a half. She was not only a very good teacher but also very patient. She used different methods if I did not understand the first way. I learned various tricks that would make sure I enunciated properly and could sing louder without using too much breath. She always encouraged me if I felt like I did not do as well as I wanted to do, and gave me various exercises to do and videos to see when I get home to practice. By using these techniques, I was always sure that I had learned something every lesson. Overall, I highly recommend anyone who wants to learn how to sing that Helen B is the one who you are looking for.

My vocal instructor, Jessica O'Sullivan, is an experienced, friendly vocalist and I am learning the best vocal exercises to further project my voice in a full-range manner as a Mezzo Soprano/Soprano voice. I don't believe I have the best voice for opera status, but with Jessica teaching me I do believe I can eventually achieve such a range and learn to maintain the beauty that creates a true vocalist. Jessica has the voice of an angel and she was so kind to offer me her personal book entitled "Folk Songs for Solo Singers, Vol. 1" to study from while I am at home and not in lesson with her. I highly recommend Jessica's tutelage for anyone wishing to commence with voice lessons. Thank you for everything, Jessica! :)
