About Marsha
The Recital was fabulous- thanks for all your work.

Goals: Since I am also a Life Coach, we really focus on how to accomplish our hopes and desires. We begin by weekly, then monthly and even a yearly goal.

Each week we also focus on something in my STUDENT PAL - mnemonic. Another is TECHNIQUE. Technique is the ability to have proper position, wrist-lifts and finger curve as well as Theoretic knowledge and application.

I started giving out lickable gold stars, you know, the old-fashioned kind? They are for those students who mark their lesson sheet and come prepared... They really seem to enjoy that, and I adore the nostalgia!

It is a great week when students are nearly all prepared and ready for their lessons. This makes both Coach and student more effective and the time together more enjoyable.

Perhaps you are reading
this with both a little excitement and a little concern. Finding the right person for your or your student can be intimidating. A short introduction follows so that you know a little about me and my philosophy which can assist you make an informed decision. If we are a good fit, lessons and learning progress more joyfully.

I have been teaching music, performing music and enjoying music since I was a tiny three-year old. My first piano lessons were at age seven. I have since taught the students of former students! How fun is that?

Music has blessed my life in countless ways and given me opportunities I'd never dreamed of. Teaching at the Young Artists Conservatory of Music; Singing in Carnegie Hall, Performing across Europe and teaching the best students for over 25 years has been a delight.

I believe strongly that those who spend their time and resources for musical education are some of the brightest and most intelligent people around. Each of my students have their own individual goals and reasons for taking music lessons, which we revisit monthly. I believe that my role is to be a support and tool for them/you to accomplish the goals set, working with music that delights and educates.

You want the best teacher, who offers information, example, practice and performance opportunities and then gets out of the way of the student's own "voice" (whether playing or singing) so that they can be free to create their own style.

*** Lesson Details ***
In our lessons, we work with a predictable schedule of balance. We have weekly exercises to make strong fingers and or voices, and technique and theory practice to hone skills that will improve our performances, whether they are for others or for our own benefit. Each student of piano can learn how to create and write their own music in time, choose their own pieces to work on, and have a say in their classical and performance goals.

We have a program of advancement, so you and your loved ones can visually see your progress and measure your skills, complete with awards and trophies.

What you learn, has everything to do with your commitment. Practice doesn't make perfect, Practice makes permanent. Only perfect practice makes perfect.

Learning the piano ought to be a JOY. I believe in playing the piano, not 'practicing' it. Enjoy what you do, and you'll do it longer and with celebration instead of duty.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano - upright; CD player; Music stands; Dozens of music books and lesson materials; flash cards; computer and music writing program; mic and mirror, syllabus.

*** Travel Equipment ***
No travel.

*** Specialties ***
Over the years I have dabbled in most methods, but finally come to use my own syllabus and musicianship. I can easily adapt to your favourite if that is your desire. I specialize in a total music education, not merely in learning notes. It is like looking in a mirror and only seeing eyes and skin. Music has many facets and we discover all of them.

About Trevor
Every musician was first and foremost a fan of music. My love of
music began when my mother took me to a performance of Beethoven's
fifth symphony when, coincidentally, I was five. From that point, I
started fervently listening to my mother's records (those are the
huge, black monstrosities that people in the pre-historic used in
place of iPods), followed closely by my father's CD collection.
After a while, this ravenous desire of to know and feel music moved
me to play an instrument. After a couple of false starts with the
drums and violin, I found my true musical calling: the guitar.

On January 25th 1995, on a whim, I began playing the
guitar, and I have yet to put it down. Along the way I've picked up
a number of friends for my guitar, including the bass, the lute, the
sitar and, once again, the drums. After on
ly a few years of
practice, I started playing professionally, in bands and solo guitar.
Live playing experience, I believe, is the most important experience
that any musician can have, in that, the most important part of music
is how it sounds, and playing in front of people is the quickest way
to learn how to play effectively. And this is what I teach; how to
be a musician, not just a technician.

*** Lesson Details ***
A student can expect a curriculum tailor-made to their needs and personality. Every person learns differently and this is an important distinction in my teaching style. Some students need a strong hand to keep them working, others need to find many different ways to the same conclusion to keep them focused, while still others need a laid-back friend in order to accept knowledge.

I stress rhythmic literacy, for, as my jazz teacher always said, "rhythm is king." If composition is important to you, then we'll focus on music theory, but if you're just wanting to learn how to play some fun rock tunes with your friends on the weekends, we can do that as well. As I stated before, we'll get you playing in front of people in no time.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide an amplifier, a loner guitar (if needed), staff and/or tablature paper, metronome, pens and paper for the lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Music theory and composition, guitar, bass, lute, beginner to intermediate piano
Classical, shred, blues, and rock guitar; renaissance lute; blues, rock and slap bass; composition of many styles; world music.

I would think the first lesson is always the hardest to start since as an instructor you don’t know what skill level you will be teaching. Trevor started the class asking what I wanted to accomplish and ended with lots of practice lessons for me to complete. Looking forward to more classes with him.

Working with Carla has been incredible! I had a minimal amount of ASL experience before starting lessons and Carla has helped me learn so much in such a short amount of time. She's wonderful at helping you to incorporate what she's teaching into conversations so you can practice using and understanding signs.

I was able to use my short 4 weeks of private lessons on a recent trip where I was able to have a lovely conversation with a member of the deaf community - thanks to Carla.

I look forward to continuing on and developing a much deeper understanding of ASL!

When I was a little girl I really love acting like I was the teacher and my playmates were my students. So, after I finished my secondary education, I chose to finish Bachelor in Secondary Education, major in Physical Sciences and Mathematics at University of Caloocan City, Philippines from 2004-2008.

Since 2004, my first year in college started, I volunteered to teach children from 3-12 years old in our church every Sunday until 2013. After I finished my degree in April 2008, I became an office-based man-to-man English tutor to Koreans students from July-December 2008 at FELA, Commonwealth Ave., Quezon City Philippines. And from January-February 2009 I thought a six-year and an 18-year old student privately at their homes.

During those months that I did not teach, I was preparing for my Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) und
er Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) in the Philippines. And on April 5, 2009 I took the test and passed it.

I got a summer job for a month as an office-based man-to-man English tutor Koreans in May of 2009. I volunteered for a few months to teach in our church. I got a substitute teaching job in November, 2009-April 2010 in St. Vincent de Paul Academy, Quezon City, Philippines. when a teacher left due to illness.

After my regular classroom setting experience in St. Vincent de Paul Academy, I decided to apply for public high school teaching position in the city where I lived. Fortunately, I was accepted to teach Mathematics in Pangarap High School in Caloocan City, Philippines. I was an LSB teacher in my first year of teaching in Pangarap High School. LSB stands for Local School Board, our city government paid my salary from July 2010-April 2011. After almost one school year, the national government paid me from July 2011-February 2014. I really enjoyed my teaching experience. I loved and missed my students.

Though, I left the Philippines for USA to live with my husband, I still have this passion for teaching. I applied as an online English tutor at IDP Online Language Center. The company is based in Vietnam. I have been teaching English to Vietnamese students since February 2016 up to present.

I would love to share my knowledge and skills to my future students. I hope to see you in my class.
