Daniel C. Cleveland, OH

About Daniel

I am recent graduate of Music Composition and Theory from Antioch College, and I am a veteran of many bands, having performed in some of the largest venues around the country. I favor a 'learning through experience' instruction style where my students can gain an in-depth understanding of music through the practice of their instrument. My students will quickly and simply learn the essentials of music theory, an understanding of what musical concepts are right for each situation and why, and the ability to compose and improvise musically while they are gaining the technical abilities and skills to flawlessly perform on their instrument. *** Lesson Details *** My students will learn about scale, harmony, and its correct application. I will instruct them to quickly grasp the lay-out of ...

Instructor is very good and easy to work with. I seem to be making progress (slowly). However, I found an "app" called ultimate guitar chords that give fingering for all notes and lets you hear alternate (simpler) fingering to test how it would sound.Depending on how that comes out will may change my plans to continue with lessons after the first four.

About Julian

Julian has always been a creative and diverse musician, breaking down the distinctive barriers among different genres of music. He received his training both at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and from the Cleveland Institute of Music, from which he recently received his Masters in Music Performance. Though his training has been largely classical, he also has interests in jazz, fiddle, Latin, hip-hop, electronic and many other styles of music. In 2006, he became one of the core members of the eclectic hip-hop band, The Off Button, an elegant fusion of upright bass, banjo, violin, percussion, vocals, and rap artists. Since then, he has also performed with a large number of ensembles and bands, including the Meadows Symphony Orchestra at Southern Methodist University, the Cleveland ...

Julian is very patient, kind, understanding and helpful -- communicates extremely well to our ten year old girl who has been diagnosed mild ADHD (not severe enough to merit special education services, but she receives accomodations at school to help her stay on task, complete work, etc. -- e.g., extra time on tests). Julian instructs her in such an excellent manner that she is able to focus well and comprehend directions clearly. We would like to know if Julian has any motivational strategies to help Arryanna who has difficulty staying on task for an appropriate length of time in practice times at home.

LAZY TONGUE:)

Thanks for the feedback on the things that may be holding me back from sounding my best...like pointing out my lazy tongue:). I have been doing the tonguing exercises you showed me and I can already see an improvement with an evenness of my articulations when playing long passages.

Barbara D. Twinsburg, OH

About Barbara

Learning to play a musical instrument is a skill that has been proven to improve brain activity. It is one of the only activities to engage both sides of the brain. Students who learn a musical instrument show improvement in their ability to pay attention and understand what is being taught in their academic classes. Most students retain this advantage even if they do not continue to play into adulthood. Music is fun! It also can express your feelings in ways words cannot. I don't just teach you how to play your instrument, I will teach you to have a love for your music, and from that, you will find that it is a lot of fun! After all, you do "play" your instrument! In addition to the violin, viola and theory lessons described below, I am also available to coach ensembles. Any

My son has been taking lessons for several years with Barb. His skills and technique improved dramatically when he began and have continue to improve over the years. He received the "most improved" award in orchestra after his first year of lessons. He performs challenging music well at annual recitals and in Akron Youth Philharmonic with Barb's guidance. Barb is encouraging during lessons, yet always points out specific things that need attention for the next week. I highly recommend her.
