Eric was great. He is obviously very knowledgeable but he is also easy to talk to and seemed to quickly understand what I knew and what I didn't. A good communicator and his set up for the lessons was very comfortable and easy to find. One hour lesson flew by!

After my first lesson I can see Eric is ready , willing and quite capable of taking on the challenge to work with me as an adult beginner on the instrument. He took the time to really get a good idea of where my skill level currently is and gave clear instruction on exercises to use in order to build from there. Furthermore, he gives a clear picture of the path the instruction will follow in order to get to the level of playing that I want to achieve.
Eric's personality combined with the spacious home studio setting provides a comfortable atmosphere of learning without distractions.
Not only do I feel Eric will be a good instructor for me but, I will also be scheduling my daughter for lessons with him to learn her third instrument, the guitar. So yes, I do recommend him for lessons!

Anthony has exceeded my expectations and has made my decision to take up drums again! I'm 38 and haven't played since junior high! I just recently received a drum kit from a coworker that needed some restoring and Anthony helped me get and tune new drum heads. He can be reached at anytime with questions or concerns and always without hesitation helps out!

I took lessons with Anthony for more than a year as a complete beginner. His teaching style was responsive to my level of experience (zero at the time), and area(s) of interest. I thoroughly enjoyed taking lessons and would highly recommend him as a teacher. He helped to expand my creativity and boldness. I even started transposing music that I had heard so that they can be used in lessons. We started getting into music theory - which was so much fun because he made it very accessible. He is an amazing drummer, good-natured, and very knowledgeable & passionate about percussion.

Jay R.

Cleveland, OH

About Jay

I am a freelance percussionist based in Cleveland, Ohio. My current performance career is primarily in orchestral settings, but I also have experience in a variety of other contexts, including solo recitals, chamber music, symphonic band, musical theater, marching, jazz, rock and latin.

I received my Bachelor of Music from Manhattan School of Music in 2013, and my Master of Music from Cleveland Institute of Music in 2015. I have studied with members of the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera, Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Symphony, Berlin Philharmonic and London Philharmonic, as wel
l as great soloists and chamber musicians.

I have taught at a variety of levels, from group hand drumming courses, to high school masterclasses, to advanced audition coaching. Whatever instrument or style a student is interested in, I enjoy helping to develop core musical and technical fundamentals in a way that is customized for each individual.

Every person has some level of unique musicality within them. I look forward to helping you find yours and grow it to its fullest potential. Often I learn a lot myself through the process of teaching, so let's learn together!

Since I teach a variety of instruments, I have no equipment requirements for all students. However, I do request that students who are just starting out have a minimum of a practice pad such as the Remo 8" tunable pad or comparable, and a pair of drum sticks such as Vic Firth SD1 or comparable.

Due to my constantly changing schedule as a freelancer, I am very flexible for lesson times. If you don't see a time that works for you, please still get in touch and we can find a suitable time.

I have known Jay Ritchie for quite some time and he has always exhibited exemplary playing and teaching abilities. He is constantly striving for and achieves excellence in both areas. We've had a lot of ensemble experience together and in every ocassion he takes the time and has the patience to mentor younger students. He has had many leadership roles and those students that he tutors invariably leave the ensemble with confidence in their own abilities.

As a clinician, Jay presents engaging material in an interactive and participatory way. While I've seen many clinicians talk about worn-out topics, Jay always focuses on important areas such as phrasing, ensemble playing, and general musicianship. His masterclasses are always thoroughly researched and masterfully executed.

Jay is the ideal private lessons teacher because he's so experienced in every idiom in the percussive field. Whether you hope to be a professional orchestral player, drum set artist, hand drum specialist, or marimbist, Jay is the guy to study with for an inexhaustible wealth of knowledge. Because of his expertise as a player and his patience, encouragement, and sensitivity as a private lessons teacher, I recommend
Jay in the strongest possible terms.

I have been taking lessons with Corbett for over 8 years. He's very knowledgeable about what he teaches, and conveys his lessons clearly so no matter what age I was, I knew how to do what we were going over. He's friendly and easy to get along with, and I've never felt that I wasn't learning something or getting the best lesson with him. Corbett's a great choice for a teacher for anyone from beginner to advanced.

My daughter has been taking cello lesson with Corby for approximately 4 years.
Corby is very knowledgeable and inspiring. My daughter has become more confident in her school orchestra program with the help that she has received from Corby.

Super knowledgeable, cool, frustratingly skilled. Bring him something cool and he'll figure it out in a few minutes as you then struggle for a month to get it. Been going to see him nearly 10 years or so and is worth every penny.
