About Eric
Hi,

Welcome to my TL's profile!

If you're looking at this site, you're already on your way to becoming an AWESOME musician! Whether this is your first attempt at music lessons or you've been playing for a while and trying to improve your skills, I'm EXCITED about working with you. I am a professional music educator and performer that has a passion for music and teaching. I will gear each lesson to fit your musical interests and playing level, while I encourage and motivate. My goal is to use proven teaching methods and a supportive learning environment to help you realize your musical potential, as well as having FUN while doing it.

Here's some background about myself, to help you decide if I'm a good fit as your new instructor.

I come from a family of musicians. Began guitar lessons at age five as the Beatles were in
vading the American music scene. I grew up in New Jersey, performing in rock bands until becoming interested in classical guitar. With New York City only a short bus ride away, I spent as much time as possible in the city, studying guitar with Russian born Classical Guitarist, Dr. Alexander Bellow, and Jazz Legend "Bucky" Pizzarelli. During this time, I attended recitals of such notables as Andre Segovia, Julian Bream and John Williams. Being immersed in this musical scene inspired me to make music my life.

Earned a degree in Classical Guitar Performance from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford, where I studied under the direction of guitar pedagogue, Richard Provost. While at Hartt and shortly after, I performed in numerous Master Classes for internationally acclaimed artists such as Manuel Barrueco, Christopher Parkening, Oscar Ghiglia, Michael Lorimer, and Carlos Barbosa-Lima.

I have taught guitar at the college level for over twenty years teaching on the music faculties of University of Central Florida, Rollins College, Stetson University, Bethune Cookman College, Florida Southern College, and St. Leo College. I taught private guitar lessons, class guitar, and guitar ensemble

I have appeared hundreds times at Disney and Sea World as well as other venues around Central Florida. My experience includes performing solo and in small groups. I have also performed with rock groups, stage bands, folk groups, classical ensembles, jazz combos, Broadway shows, operas, as well as solo recitals, and concerto appearances.

Throughout the years I have had many unique experiences while performing. One of my favorites being the opportunity to play the MASH theme song for Alan Alda as well as other stars in attendance at a cast party for the TV show, Win, Lose or Draw at EPCOT Center.

Although I enjoy performing, I considers teaching music to be highly gratifying. The importance of giving students a good foundation with the proper technique and performance skills cannot be underestimated. When a student can play a song from beginning to end with style and confidence you know you've given them a gift that will offer them enjoyment for the rest of their lives.

About Shelley
I'm a professional singer/teacher residing in New York City with degrees from Indiana State University, and New York University with a specialization in Classical Art Song, Musical Theatre Repertoire, and Vocal Pedagogy.

Every lesson is about YOU. So each week we will take a look at your goals for the lesson, whether you are preparing for college auditions, school talents shows, a desire to work with music theory, or piano skills, this is your opportunity to explore. Everything is possible.

As a professional singer myself, I am constantly auditioning on broadway, off-broadway, and for smaller local and regional theater opportunities. I believe that as a teacher I have to continue to be in the field and learning as the industry continues to change. I have to be aware of the opportunities in this business. I have been hired by pr
ofessional opera and musical theatre companies, in additional to large choral works as a soloist, and have a private studio in Washington Heights.

Prior to NYC I taught middle school choir for 200+ students, of which I received teacher of the year in 2012. I also still hold a valid teaching license in the state of Indiana and currently applying toward my NYS teaching certification.

Within my voice studio I teach in person and online lessons. While online lessons can be beneficial for students wishing to study with me that are not in the immediate vicinity, I recommend in person lessons

I look forward to hearing your beautiful voice and helping you to embrace music!

Shelley is by far the best voice teacher I have ever had. Within the short duration of time that I have worked with her, I have noticed that my voice has significantly changed (it feels and sounds better) after using her techniques. She knows what she’s talking about and offers substantial and specific criticism. She individualizes every student, in that she chooses repertoire that benefits a particular voice instead of assuming that every student has the same voice and strengths/weaknesses. This is a very important skill for a voice teacher to have. Shelley is also very good at time management within a lesson. Most importantly, she makes the experience fun! I would highly recommend Shelley to anyone who is looking for a voice teacher! Thank you Shelley!

Shelley is amazing! All my old teachers always told me to breathe to release the tension in my voice, but Shelley taught me vocal warmups to ease the strain. I now can sing better and connect to lyrics.

About Mary Elizabeth
Whether you have had many voice lessons or you are wanting to try lessons for the first time I am excited to help you find your best voice in a healthy and fun way!

My name is Mary Elizabeth and I am a professional musical theater actress and voice teacher living in New York City. I am an honor graduate of Oklahoma City University with a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theater. I have toured the United States and performed with professional theaters around the country. Some of my favorite roles include Luisa in The Fantasticks, Philia in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Cosette in Les Miserables, and Cinderella in Into the Woods.

My private lessons include all styles of music and vocal technique that protect and strengthen the voice. Students will also learn some basic music theory th
at will make learning new music much easier. Along with voice technique I help my students to express their interpretation of the music, especially in musical theater repertoire. I teach students 8 and up and have a lot of experience working with kids. No matter what your goal is the most important thing is that you are eager to learn and enjoy the process!

As someone who is currently auditioning and performing in the business I want to pass the knowledge I have gained to others. I have done "endless" auditions in my life and I love to help others prepare for auditions.

I teach online lessons and in New York City at a studio in Midtown.
Please reach out if you have any questions all. I look forward to working with you!

I used to play music from 3rd grade to college, but never had the opportunity for piano lessons. I always wanted to play such a beautiful instrument. Over 30 years later, I find Mike and my passion for music was reignited. I made him aware of my intimidation of piano (I never played bass clef music, nor read two lines of music at the same time). Mike responding, in a calm demeanor, told me not to worry, it'll happen. He was able to play the songs (impressive he can sight read so well), break down different key positions, allow me to master each hand, and the help me put it all together. Over a year later, I'm playing songs that I never dreamed that I would play. Mike inspires you to be connected to the instrument, is in tune with your anxiety about getting it right, and reminding you of the joy music brings. His delivery of technique isn't clinical, it's like having a coach. Not only is he well versed in music, he's a super nice guy to boot!

Mike made me feel so at ease with this gentle demeanor and patient approach to teaching. To hear him play is inspiring since he has the confidence of someone who has been performing in front of audiences for many years. He has already explained jazz piano in a way that de-mystified a lot of things I never thought I could do myself. Now I understand exactly what techniques I should be practicing to level up as a pianist. This guy can really play anything though, from rock to jazz to R&B to straight pop, which makes him a perfect instructor no matter what style you are interested in. Highly recommend his lessons.

I found myself living in Maine about 7 years ago, when I started studying for my undergraduate degree at Bowdoin College. Before then, I had lived all over the place, most notably in Saratoga, California and New Delhi, India. I'm enjoying life here immensely - though I'm still getting used to the cold!

Playing and listening to music has been a consistent thread through my life, and I think it's a big part of the reason that home has never needed to be a place for me - it's always been a question of emotional connection to the people around me. I studied Math and Computer Science in college, though I was fairly certain even then that I'd be pursuing a career in music before long.

Today, my primary creative outlet is in performing with and leading my five-piece indie folk band, SnugHouse. Working with the group has been a very fulfilling
marriage of my pursuits as pianist, guitarist, singer and vocal arranger. We play shows regularly all around the northeast. If you're curious, you can check us out on social media, or wherever you listen to music!
