His teaching method - a mix of music theory, exercises, improvisation, and practicing songs - keeps things fresh and challenging every week, and has helped me become better at productive practicing outside of each session. I initially started with blues guitar lessons because I wanted to be able to play my favorite songs or maybe impress girls. Over the years Eric got me interested in so much more.

I learned music theory, jazz standards, improvisation, fingerstyle techniques, how to play and sing at the same time, and how to write and record my own songs. He inspired me to take on piano as a second instrument, initially through him but eventually through classically trained instructor.

"Ryan was great! He's obviously a talented guitarist and he is very laid back and makes you feel comfortable. He shows you in detail what you need to do to become a better guitar player. My ONLY advice, and the reason he doesn't get 5 stars, is I think he should have more visual aids with his lessons. For example, write down the different scales or transcribe the first several measures of a song. Then, one has something to refer back to when you are practicing and invariably get stuck. Other than that, I would highly recommend Ryan as a guitar teacher!"
