We study baroque, classical, and romantic period music, pop, jazz, blues, music theory, and technique all rolled into one piano lesson as students progress.
Everyone studies piano for different reasons! I'm happy to guide my students along whatever their path may be.

I've been teaching piano now for 15 years. My goal is for the student to learn to play by feel in addition to reading music. A standard lesson would consist of some playing in books and going over some music theory followed by playing by feel. This would include blues,jazz, and rock grooves. My approach is creative and customized to the prospective student. The student needs to enjoy learning the piano. A happy student is a successful one.

I teach beginning piano to students who are trying to learn musicianship for fun or for use in music theory or for help learning other instruments.

I also teach students for the CM and ABRSM exams and can teach serious classical music at any level when requested by parents.

I try to approach piano for young students in a fun manner so they will like to practice on their own while continuing to reach their goals.

I love to teach students of any age, but I specialize in teaching 4-12 year olds and adult beginners how to play.

I believe it is important to foster a child's growth of not just music but of learning any subject through what they learn in piano from finding patterns, focus, musical understanding and expression, through to time management. My goal is to get students to develop both their creative and their analytical abilities.

In my lessons, we will cover technique, scales, and repertoire. I do emphasize basic theory to help students better understand the music and learn pieces more quickly. While working on these aspects of piano, I also try to make lessons fun and engaging so that the music has depth and a natural flow rather than mechanical approach that tends to make music dry and robotic.

I have played piano for twenty-seven years and taught it for eleven years. I teach students of all ages and all levels. I provide a curriculum that includes technique, theory, performance, and composition and that incorporates the student's personal goals. I authored a book of Jazz piano scales and exercises that has sold thousands of copies.
