My name is Perry and I am a professional classical, flamenco and electric guitarist performing and recording in the Dallas area. I studied with Robert Guthrie at SMU for many years, as well as Brad McLemore of "Soul Food Cafe" and professional jazz musician Chuck Pangburn at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. In addition, I have taken masterclasses w/ many professional guitarists in all styles such as the flamenco guitarist Miguel Antonio.

I am familiar with all styles. I teach using a foundation in classical/flamenco style and technique. I have found that for my own career as a recording artist in both the classical, acoustic and electric guitar fields that the classical/flamenco styles are the most useful for developing and training the hands to become a consummate professional.

I teac
h beginner to advanced students of any age. I also can provide pro and amateur electric guitarists an in-depth study of correct hand postures and left-hand/right-hand technique which can help to refine their overall technique and stylistic approach. I can also advise professional electric guitarists on their electronics, effects pedals, and amplifiers to achieve their own individual sound. I also teach Bass, and reading the Bass clef.

My teaching specialties include: Solfeggio, Sight Reading, Music Theory, Scales and Modes, Left and Right Hand Technique, Blues Progressions, Jazz Standards the Classical Repertoire, Flamenco styles, techniques and repertoire, and the works of Sor, Giuliani, and Carcassi, Brouwer, Aguado, Villa-Lobos, Sabicas and Paco de Lucia.

I have an in-depth knowledge of the stylistic approaches and techniques of such guitarists as Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Randy Rhoads, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, and SRV to name a few, and I can teach you the components they use to build their signature licks.

As a rule I only transcribe to give the students examples for lessons. I intend for all of my students to grow as musicians, so my lessons do not consist solely of transcribed solos and riffs.

I have a vast library of music, so I can draw from my own resources to teach you, or from a method of your choosing.

My schedule has a few openings right now. I do teach outside of my stated teaching radius, but ONLY at the 60 minute rate.

I teach people of all ages, from children to adults. I believe everyone is on an even keel, if they are willing and eager to learn.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I presently don't teach in my home studio. I can bring a folding music stand or extra footstool if necessary.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a limited number of learning materials such as copied exercises, listening or practicing CD on occasion. However, I feel that it is the student's responsibility to provide their own guitars, and the bulf of their own learning materials and necessary electronic equipment. This can include footstools, music stands, method books, amps, cables, pedals, etc.

I've been playing guitar for 25 years, and this has given me the time to study, perform, and perfect many styles of guitar playing.

I studied classical and flamenco guitar with Robert Guthrie for 4 years before and after my studies in the SMU program. I've also played in jazz and rock ensembles since the age of 14. I studied with Chuck Pangburn, pro jazz cat, and Brad McLemore, an indie rock songwriter, early on in my studies as an adolescent.

I encourage most students to learn to play on a classical or nylon-string guitar early on in order to develop proper technique, posture, sensitivity, and sensibility. I also encourage all students to learn to sight-read at a very early point in their studies. Once, this hurdle is cleared many other challenges are easily surpassed.

Presently, I am developing a new method which incorporates solfeggio, blues and popular music forms, and improvisational playing. I also am exploring the vanguard of new guitar technology such as the Moog Guitar, analog effects, and various guitar synthesizers.

I try to introduce an understanding of music theory early on so that students develop a full comprehension of not only the written language of music, but also the sonic-aural language of music.

Perry takes the time to explain flamenco and related styles deeply and thoroughly. He also provides detailed micro-scale feedback on hand/arm placement, orientation, range and which muscle groups to engage. But more than the technical, he has an awesome vibe and makes learning guitar quite an enjoyable experience.

Excellent Guitar Teacher

Within a month of lessons with Perry, my daughter was in love with the guitar! Perry is professional and great with kids! He couples the basics with discourse about genre, and is very encouraging! Perry helped guide us in the right guitar and accessories to get us set up before the lessons began, which was incredibly helpful. We are very glad we selected Perry to teach our 7-year old to play guitar and look forward to watching her grow under his guidance.

A Note From Francesca:

My official bio is listed below, but perhaps more important than the things I have done are the things that I am doing. I am now approaching my 15th year of teaching. I love to teach! I carry a minimum of 30 students, but have carried more then 80 at one time, and have never once complained. My waiting list cycles based on my performance schedule and recording schedule. If you don't see a time that works for you, feel free to reach out and see if we can find something that works, as an artist, my schedule can be quite full but also quite flexible. I love my students, I get to do what I love all day and I am sure it shows. I have a blast discovering new ways to experience music with "my kids." I call all of my students kids even though most of my studio consists of young adults. I try to have a young air in my classes at all times as it just makes the process so much more fun for everyone.

I've seen it all in through years: kids, adults, beginners and advanced students. I am personally very interested in being the most versatile musician possible and I love being able to share my knowledge with my students. We can study anything and everything from Classical Guitar to Electric Guitar Shredding; from Opera to Kelly Clarkson; from Tchaikovsky to Little Richard! I love getting students to dabble in little bits of all genres, often getting even the most skeptical student singing and playing comfortably in a matter of just a few weeks. My students will be able to read music for their favorite tunes and understand how to improvise from the start. Once you come in, you'll be hooked. You will have fun because I am having fun!

I encourage all of my students to share their favorite music with me. It affords me the opportunity to learn more about what they desire to learn and what types of music they enjoy. We will learn with your music often. After all, isn't that why you are coming to see me? I will introduce you to new sounds and styles, but will foster your love for music, and do my best to never force my music on students. I feel I learn as much from my students when I truly listen to them and their music as they do from me.

On site lessons are available for artists recording demos, rehearsing bands and setting up their own studios.

On a side note, I love seeing students at my shows! I am a full time musician and can be seen playing with my band, in my own solo project and in various choral settings. Check out my website and see what I do outside of the classroom. My students get a kick out of the idea that they can buy a CD with their teachers face on it, and to be honest, so do I. Many of my students have their own music out on iTunes and YouTube. Many more can be seen performing around town in solo projects and professional ensembles.

I feel obligated to share my joys and experiences-

Not many people have been blessed to sing alongside as many renowned musicians as I have - I've been lucky to be welcomed in both the commercial and classical worlds and they have both afforded me venues to use my voice and express the most vital corners of my soul. To find your purpose through art is one of the greatest gifts you can receive. And to be able to do that in front of thousands of music lovers live or over the airwaves is a surreal experience.

It'€™s funny, my classical cronies are impressed to hear my stories of packed rock gigs at the House Blues and national touring festivals like Warped Tour and my rock buddies ask to hear my stories of Disney Hall performances with the LA Phil. To be honest, Iâ'm impressed to be there too. Sometimes, I look around and think, how did I get here? How did I get lucky enough to live the dream, to find a home in music?

From the first time we talked on the phone, I knew I wanted Francesca to be my teacher. Just by a simple conversation and the way I spoke, she pointed out a few things that I definitely wanted to work on, and I was hooked! She is truly talented and passionate about what she does. I like when she gives me a focus or shows me the science so I can understand a technique better. I think the best thing about Francesca is that even when I am embarrassed by my voice and think I sound awful, she always has the most encouraging and uplifting thing to say!

As a violin teacher, I always aim to set goals for students, to guide students towards them, and to be direct as possible so far as is appropriate. I also try to stay results-oriented throughout the process. Even if not all of a student’s progress is directly attributable to me, the most important thing was that he improve. I teach from the personal perspective of a traditional, technically founded approach to classical music, but I also love to arrange simple songs from any genre for each student, chosen by me or upon request. On the side, I enjoy playing fiddle music with my family and friends.
As a math and standardized test tutor, I strive to stay results-oriented and based around the student's needs. In past experience as a tutor in college, where I was an undergraduate math major, I would often see shortcuts to problems that to me
were simpler than the methods taught in class, but I became acutely aware of the need to approach learning from students' point of view in addition to my own. Putting students first calls me to help them directly with their needs and to meet them where they are.

I really appreciated Alexander teaching me violin. He was basically my first instructor and he was always patient and motivating. He accommodated my unique needs as an adult beginner and brought me far in a short time. He was a little challenged to balance teaching with his heavy school load, but I appreciated his willingness to take the time to teach and help others.

Hi, I'm Ian, a 23 year old music major who just completed his B.A. At Hunter College. I try and play as many instruments as possible to expand my musical repertoire, but I am the most well versed in violin and guitar. I've been playing violin for 14 years and guitar for 9. I am involved in a number of musical projects and bands including my own, Cicero & the Orations. I also have a good knowledge of theory and have taken all but two of Hunters offered theory classes. I am currently a lessons instructor at a corporate site but I am always looking to teach music, since it's what I want to do with my life. I am quite patient with students and am always looking to take as much time as is needed for the student to learn whatever will better them.

Consider me your (All Access Pass) to harnessing your full vocal potential. I started performing professionally when I was 10 years old and with over 40 years of performance experience and 18 years of teaching experience I know how to mine and develop talent.

Now just a bit about myself...though I am classically trained, I am very blessed to have grown up in a musical family who appreciates all types of music. So at home we'd jam out to Jazz and Blues, but it was my classical training that allowed me to excel in my craft. I learned how to carry the skill sets from my classical training into multiple genres of music. In doing so I earned awards on the local, state and regional levels, opening doors for performance opportunities on stages both here, at home, and abroad.

In 1998 I decided to open a voice studio, determined to create
a learning environment that would blend the discipline of sound technique with a fun, relaxed atmosphere, free of negative critique. Here I am 18 years later and still going strong!

I am looking for goal oriented students, who are serious about mastering their instrument and willing to work hard to get there. Are you that person?

From, my daughter, Hannah’s, first lesson with Kathy I KNEW I had found the right vocal instructor. Hannah climbed into the car after the lesson, face beaming, and the first words out of her mouth were… “Thank you, Mom for finding her.”

Hannah’s always been very active in and out of school in all things related to theatre and music, but she’s not always had the confidence necessary to land the acting roles or singing solos that she wanted. After she started studying with Kathy all of that changed. Armed with new singing and performance techniques she began getting solos and acting roles that in the past would have been out of her reach.

Hannah auditioned for a local telethon. When we arrived I was invited to sit in on her audition, which never happens. I was completely blown away and reduced to tears as she sang a jazz song with a very complicated scatting section. I didn’t feel like I was watching Hannah, I felt like I was watching a professional. She was accepted, and on the day of the telethon she performed the jazz piece from her audition as well as a contemporary broadway piece which reduced me to tears.. Yet another milestone in her journey. To say I was blown away would be an understatement and it was on that day that I realized my daughter, because of Kathy’s investment, could go on to do extraordinary things.

As the weeks passed Hannah focus on her craft began to intensify even more. She literally spent hours in her room practicing and I could tell, from listening, that as she was giving it everything she had, her hard work was already beginning to pay off. The evidence of that came as she auditioned for, and was accepted into, All National Choir, All Eastern Choir, and All State Jazz Choir. An even greater test of how much her abilities had grown came when she auditioned and was accepted into Berklee School of Music. I’m such a proud Mama!

Kathy has been a mentor for Hannah not only with regards to singing and performance, but also has become a friend who’s willing to go the extra mile to see Hannah succeed. She has taught her to believe in herself, to believe that she deserves what she wants and that, with hard work and humility, she will go far. Over the past year I have watched Hannah bloom into a confident, hardworking young lady. I am beyond thankful for Kathy and all that she has done for my daughter. I wish I had found her sooner!

Just had an opportunity to go to my daughter's first recital after signing her up for singing lessons with Kathy, and we were absolutely amazed at how much better she had become after only a couple of months - and everyone in our church has noticed it as well. It seems to me like Kathy finds a very good balance between the rigorous basics of voice training, and just having fun and exploring what the student wants to do. I am very happy we found her.

I am currently pursuing my Masters Degree in Music Education at Towson University. I have performed original music with my jazz group for the last 5 year across New York, New Jersey, Maryland and D.C. I have had the good fortune of being able to study with some of the worlds greatest jazz musicians including Mulgrew Miller, Christian McBride, Rich Perry, Chris Potter, Seamus Blake and Donny McCaslin.
