About Serena
Hello! My name is Serena!

Music shapes my life and has made me the person I am today. My experience in training in opera, musical theatre, jazz, and pop has expanded my musical skills and knowledge. Not only have I been trained in performance, but I have also studied music history, music theory, conducting, movement training, ballet, Alexander Technique, acting, yoga, stage craft, improvisation, other languages, diction and the International Phonetic Alphabet, voice science and anatomy, and vocal pedagogy. I have completed my Bachelor of Music in Operatic Vocal Performance from the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University under the tutelage of the legendary Carol Vaness. I have also studied with acclaimed teachers and coaches around the world including Dr. Kari Ragan and Maestro Dean Williamson.

This year has been w
onderfully packed with performance for Seattle Opera. I just closed out a 78 performance run of CINDERELLA IN SPAIN where I sang the role of CINDERELLA and was even on the poster! I also performed the roles for the Seattle Opera preview performances of GRETEL in HANSEL UND GRETEL, VIOLETTA in LA TRAVIATA, KATYA in KATYA KABANOVA, and QUEEN OF THE NIGHT in MAGIC FLUTE. I made my Seattle Opera debut singing ALITSA and RACCOON in their touring production of "OUR EARTH", as well as performing on the mainstage in many productions. My upcoming performances include singing in the Seattle Opera kick off to the season SUMMERFEST in July; and OLYMPIA in LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN with Pacific Northwest Opera. My other roles include ALKANDRE in PENELOPE with Vespertine Opera in Seattle, WA; FRASQUITA in CARMEN with OperaBend in Bend, Oregon and Pacific Northwest Opera; and SUSANNA in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO with the Seattle Opera Guild. I also made my international debut in December 2014 singing GRETEL in HANSEL UND GRETEL with Opera Mariposa in Vancouver, BC. I have also been the featured soloist as "Christine" in Ten Grand's Phantom of the Opera at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, WA, and many lead roles in both opera and musical theatre: such as Semele (Semele), Marie (La Fille du Regiment), Gretel (Hansel und Gretel), Countess Ceprano and Gilda (Rigoletto), Blondchen (Die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail), Maria (West Side Story), La Fee (Cendrillon), Sarah Brown (Guys and Dolls), Cathy (The Last 5 Years), Rosina (Barber of Seville), and more! I have also been part of jazz ensembles, and won the Battle of the Bands at Indiana University with a rock group! I am proud to have won the Seattle Opera Guild/Opera Plus Young Artist Scholarship Award for the 2015/2016 season, the Encouragement Award in the Metropolitan Opera National Council District Auditions, First Place in the National Classical Singers Competition, the C.M. Gerber Scholarship, Music Dean's Scholarship, Music Faculty Award, First Place at Washington State Solo and Ensemble Competitions, First Place in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) National Competitions, and many more!

Teaching brings me such joy! To share the love of music and to educate the musicians of tomorrow is both gratifying and inspiring. I have been teaching since 2005 and provide a fun and focused learning experience where there are no "wrong" questions, and everybody's unique voice is celebrated! Many of my students have gone on to study music in college, and have landed lead roles in musical theatre, choir solos, All State and All Northwest choirs, and won awards in Classical competitions.

In my spare time, I like to hike, eat good food, and spend time with family and friends!

*** Lesson Details ***
My studio provides musical knowledge through private lessons including healthy vocal technique, basic understanding of music theory, and basic piano skills. I encourage a fun and focused environment. Come ready to learn, and let's make music!

A typical lesson will include vocalises that detail proper technique, some ear training work, some music theory training, and will be followed by repertoire. During this time, students will learn how to produce clear and authentic diction (English and other languages), breath management, phrase shaping, smooth transitions between higher and lower pitches, stylistic ornamentation, as well as dramatic involvement of the piece.

Students will learn the importance of the foundations of breath support, and how to create a healthy sound for any genre while keeping the unique qualities of their own voice-- no cookie-cutter singers here! Students will also learn how to read music, practice effectively, perform authentically, and take care of their delicate instrument for a lifetime of singing!

While Skype is a marvelous tool that has revolutionized the world of teaching, nothing can replicate natural acoustics. In-studio lessons are suggested for a clearer and more personable lesson.
**Skype lessons are reserved for long distance students only**

STUDIO ABSENCE and CANCELLATION POLICIES:
Regularly scheduled and attended lessons are the best way to see positive changes in your voice! The smooth running of the Studio Schedule helps make that happen. Therefore, missing lessons is discouraged and make up lessons/cancellations are not given in the Studio unless:
- I have had a performance or rehearsal that conflicts with our lesson time and cannot have the lesson as scheduled. If this occurs, I will inform you of the event as soon as possible and give you the option of a make up lesson or cancelling the lesson.
- Notices of foreseen cancellations (family vacations, religious holidays, school functions, special occasions etc.) are eligible for rescheduling or cancellation if given before the first lesson of the month.
- Of course, life can throw us for a loop! Illness, emergencies, and unforeseen events may possibly be given make ups or cancellations and will be determined at the Studio's discretion. (In the matter of illness: standard procedure is that if the student can attend work/school, they should come to their lesson. A cold can easily be worked around. If the voice is affected (for singing students), Studio time can still be used to work on ear training, music theory, music history, etc.)

All other absences will result in the lesson being marked as "missed". A hard copy of the Studio Policies and further details will be given to the student at the first lesson. Please feel free to ask any questions or clarifications.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The studio lessons take place in a designated area of my home. The room includes seating for parents to observe lessons as well as a weighted keyboard (88 keys), music stand, desk, and materials. No pets. Lots of street parking is available. Shopping and coffee/food located within walking distance.

*** Specialties ***
Specialties: Classical/Opera
Other styles and genres: Musical Theatre, Jazz, Pop, and Rock.

This is a great lesson study for anyone who wants to sing(experienced or not).
Beginners would learn to approach their voices as instruments through breathing and use of their diaphragm. All classes would develop their ears through special exercises and harmony. More advanced singers the emphasis would be on stylings and nuances. I also try to develop them as an artist. All lessons are customized to the prospective students in addition to being a lot of fun. I've been teaching voice for about 15 years now.

About Paul
I am a musician who has played in many bands. My primary instrument is piano and voice. I also play rhythm guitar. My current group is a "Who" tribute band, performing a complete history of the rock group, The Who. Please check out our website magicbustour.com
I play by ear but also read music. If you are looking for an old school, rigid, teacher who only has students only follow books, then you should look elsewhere. If you want to be able to play or sing with feel and learn music theory with some reading in a comfortable working studio then contact me.

About Rebekah
Each person has differently-shaped resonating chambers and vocal folds that make up their anatomy. The way the sound resonates inside is what gives each person his or her own unique voice. It takes a voice teacher with a specialized training in what to look and listen for to understand what is a healthy exercise and what is not. I will help you or your child achieve their goals– but also it takes daily practice to achieve desired results. It takes at least three months of training to experience measurable improvement. Please be patient and keep it up!

I help people of all ability levels:

-Improve pitch accuracy and the tone of the voice
-Increase the singing range (low to high)
-Use breath support to increase the volume of the voice
-Release muscle tension during speaking or singing
-Even out the "glitches" when singing throug
h the range
-Improve over all performance and audition presentation
-Learn to read music
-Learn to sing in harmony
-Become more confident onstage and everywhere else
-Access a brighter and bolder speaking voice (ideal for teachers, pastors, and speakers)

Benefits of studying with Rebekah at Ninth Tone Voice Studios:

The lessons will take place in the convenience of your home– so no travel necessary! Rates are competitive. I put my students' success as my first priority. The first lesson will be utilized as an introduction and consultation between the student and myself. With the knowledge attained from the first lesson, I can tailor a curriculum to fit the needs of the student. I give my students the opportunity to perform in city, regional, and state competitions, recitals, and events through my associations with NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) and MTAC (Music Teachers Association of California). These organizations also provide curriculum for the students they can strive to be successful in, and will be an essential stepping–stone to further studies in music, or for their resume in general. Students are able to strive for awards of merit that are recognized on a national level.

My students:

My students have enjoyed solos in choir, lead roles in school musicals and summer programs, solo performance showcases and successfully singing for weddings and other church programs. I have even coached public speakers to achieve a healthier and more vibrant speaking tone. I have proudly helped people become much more accurate with singing on pitch through ear-training methods.

Join My Studio

Again, I am new to the Northern San Diego / Carlsbad area and I am highly motivated to take on new students. I will do my best to challenge, encourage, and push you to achieve a higher level of singing. Please call or email me to set up a time for a lesson.

Rebekah is an outstanding instructor who pushed me out of my perceived limitations with singing. It had been years since my last formal lesson and after talking about goals and pieces we wanted to work on she was able to help cultivate a stronger skill all the while being easy to learn from. I highly suggest anyone looking to learn to sing to give Rebekah a shot! She makes the environment fun, positive and you will sing at levels better than you perceived possible if you are willing to work for it!

Rebekah was a wonderful teacher to me. I have grown children and always had singing lessons on my "bucket list". Although I have no desire to sing professionally, I always wanted to have a better singing voice so I could sing with confidence (and not embarrassment!) while worshiping at church. Rebekah understood my goals and tailored our lessons, her assignments to me and even our song choices to fit my aspirations perfectly. Her patience in moving at the pace I needed showed her maturity despite her younger age and she always provided me with honest and uplifting feedback that raised my belief that I could sing with confidence. Her move Maine is California's loss and the east coast's gain of an effective, kind and lovely instructor and person

I can teach you how to play the guitar in many style's. Blues, jazz, country, rock, punk rock, modern rock, classical guitar, bass guitar, metal and thrash. You will learn chords, scales, solo's, taping, arpeggios, technique and exercises, composing and more. You will have the option to learn songs from your favorite artist. I have the patients to show you fingering and picking as we play along with the song. I will show you tips on playing, programs, recording equipment, guitar and amp tips as well.

About Richard
I started learning how to play the guitar around 15 years old. I have over 36 years experience. I took lessons for three years of reading, writing tab and notations, chord charts, melodies, classical guitar, soloing, taping, techniques, song learning, ear training and transposing. From the songs, I've learned to play the rhythm and solo. Over the years, I self taught myself guitar by listening to my favorite artist. I played in local bands for many years and performed in venue's in my home town. When I play in bands, I'm always labeled the lead guitar player of the group. I would help everyone out with their parts and timing. I have recording experience in the studio as much as my home studio using Steinburg's Cubase. I took a music theory course and received a certificate.

My time with Rich was really strong. I took lessons from Rich for a short while when living in Connecticut. The time I spent with him was VERY helpful to me as a novice guitar player. Rich has an unbelievable knowledge of the instrument and is quite an accomplished player. He is a really strong instructor and genuinely wants his students to get better.

In short, Rich is a very talented instructor/player and I would definitely take lessons from him again.

I have been teaching/coaching for 4 years in the styles of pop, R&B, contemporary musical theatre, broadway, background vocalists, gospel, worship leading and performance coaching for singers. My exeperience has been with beginner and intermediate singers from children to adults. I have worked professionally both as an actress and singer in musicals, concerts, theatre, film and television. I'm excited to unlock the greatest potential within every student! All ages are welcome

About Shay
I'm a singer/actress originally from Motown Detroit. I graduated from The Conservatory of Theatre at SUNY Purchase with a BFA in Acting. In NYC I worked as an actor in theatre, regional musicals and television. I am a proud AEA member and former AFTRA member. I was also a worship leader at World Changers Church NY.

During that time I gave private vocal lessons to worship leaders, background vocalists, musical theatre artists, actors and contemporary pop/R&B singers.

For 4 years I worked in NYC as an enrichment teacher where I taught musical theatre to elementary school aged children.

I currently reside in Los Angeles.

As a vocal coach I am best able to hlep students find their natural voice and show them how to maneuver through it with ease. I teach fundamentals such as breath support, intonation, ear training, vocal dynamics, vocal
flexibility and basic music theory. My theory is that while the above are crucial fundamentals, they are yet functions that support an inherent intuition that every singer already has.

As a perfomrance coach I push students to acheive an honest and dynamic performance emotionally, physically and vocally. I create a very safe environment where students are encouraged to fail and continue to stretch their own pre conceived limits.

I'm excited to continue teaching and grow a base of students in Los Angeles or online.

Shay was officially my vocal coach in both a group and in 1-on-1 sessions. She is by far one of the best vocal coaches I have ever had!!! She cares about not only you improving but excelling. I am proud to say that even today after years since my last class with her I am able to apply what I learned and teach it to others. I serve as a team leader for my local praise team and a Worship Leader. I will always highly recommend her and now that I know she is going to be teaching folks virtually, I will recommend her to my team members!
