Terrible. Only taught 30 minutes out of 60 minute sessions. On the 3 session I mentioned it and he said he didn’t think my son needed more than that even though we paid for it. Was so disrespectful!!!! Never again!!! Highly unprofessional when asked about why he cut the lessons short. Please don’t leave your kids with this instructor work paying attention. He will get over on you if he thinks you’re not involved.

I use many methods including Suzuki, Kodaly and traditional teachings that include catered practice plans in order to accommodate each student's learning needs. I am very flexible and more than happy to discuss teaching methods and/or special needs with parents and students.

About Alethia

Growing up I was raised in a home full of music. My father, a graduate of the Conservatorio Nacional Superior de Musica (National conservatory of Superior Music) played piano day and night and from there my love for music blossomed. My first experience with music was at the age of 8 when I began to

Alethia is great. She is working with my 7 yr. old daughter as a beginner in violin. She teaches in a way that is fun, appropriate, and respectful. My daughter has already learned so much and looks forward to her lessons with Alethia each week.

Alethia is very knowledgeable about technique and skilled at teaching.
Mark N.
Alethia is a very talented teacher and violinist. She is extremely professional, attentive and accommodating to her students needs/goals. As an older student with no musical background, she has made the violin less intimidating and more accessible by breaking it down and making it less complex and easier to understand. While, I've only been with her a few years, I'm very proud of the progress I've made with her. If you are interested in taking up the violin, I highly recommend her.

An experienced and registered Suzuki teacher, my students learn to play violin starting from a solid foundation with emphasis on posture and producing a beautiful tone. In addition to playing the instrument, students can expect to learn reading music, basic theory, music history, and ear training. Learning violin will teach patience, concentration, the value of hard work, coordination, as well as enhancing memory, aural skills, and fine motor control. It was Dr. Suzuki's belief and mine that learning an instrument not only fosters these skills but also helps to foster the hearts and minds of those learning the craft.

Sylvia is very good at taking the time to explain the reasons behind the why of doing certain things. Being an adult with no musical background what so ever she has really taken the time to teach me some basic fundamentals that are helping me build the solid foundation that I so very much want and need. Beyond the time we spend with one-on-one instructions she challenges me with exercises to practice on between our meetings. I explained to Sylvia what I was looking for and she has centered the training and instructions around that to ensure that my goals are being met. She is a pleasure to work with and learn from.

He also has an amazing grasp of musical theory, and has really helped me learn about my instrument. He has also helped me grow as a student. "My daughter started taking violin lessons with Elisa in January of 2014. She is by far the best music teacher that we've had! Elisa is very challenging but makes learning and playing fun. My 8 year old daughter has made leaps and bounds in music and can now read music after only a short 8 months of playing. My daughters bow hold and tone quality are absolutely excellent and it's because of Elisa! I would definitely recommend her as a teacher. You will not be disappointed."

Are You Making the Most of Your Violin Practice?

Gifted musicians don't appear from nowhere fully-formed and ready to take to the concert platform.  For every 45-minute concerto or 90-minute recital you hear, hours of hard work have gone into every note, every phrase, and even how the music is approached, learned, and memorized! It may seem strange to say that proper practice is the most nerve-wracking element of mastering your violin, but if you don't know how to structure the session, how can you ever be sure that you're working on the rig …

A Beginner's Guide to Violin Bows: 4 Details to Consider

Selecting a violin bow, much like choosing a guitar, can be a very subjective process.  To the uninitiated, it's "just a violin bow."  They're all the same, right?  Wrong.  To the seasoned violinist, the perfect bow will depend on the player's technique, playing style and overall personal preference.  There are several factors that can affect the sound of the bow on the strings, including strength, shape, and age of the bow. Most beginner violins come with bows that are perfectly fine, b …

Age or Aptitude: When to Start Violin Lessons

Some start optimistically young, others driven by passion start much later in life, but when is the right time to start violin lessons? Like any other form of art, there’s simply no black or white when it comes to exploring music. The right time to start can’t be measured exclusively by age. Some ambitious parents start their kids at the age of two, and while many go off to become YouTube sensations, a whole lot more tend to give up by the age of five. So what should you consider before div …
