I've been teaching chorus and doing private voice lessons for almost 10 years. For the past years, my students in private singing lessons have gained a basic understanding of vocal anatomy and become more skilled in correct breathing technique, moving between vocal registers and producing balanced tone. I usually select an age appropriate song for my students to learn for each session, and each skill the students learned during the lessons will be applied to the singing of that song.

While in college, I was trained in classical voice, piano, music theory, musical theater performance, and vocal pedagogy (vocal training). My vocal pedagogy studies credentialed me to become a professional vocal instructor. I began teaching voice after I earned my degree, and have been teaching private voice lessons for over ten years.

Most of my present expertise in teaching voice grew from my vocal pedagogy studies, my teaching experience which has developed over time, my own personal vocal dedication, and my training and understanding of various genres of vocal performance. My present singing career is as an inspirational singer; my vocal students encompass various genres in which I have experience, including: Inspirational, Rhythm and Blues, Jazz, Rock, Classical, as well as various degrees of popular music.

*** Audition Preparation ***
I have coached many of my students to prepare for auditions: auditions to be accepted into performing arts schools, parts in musicals and plays, joining a band or vocal ensemble, as well as auditions for televised singing shows, such as "The Voice," "Sunday's Best," "American Idol" and "The X Factor."

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach students by using the tried and true techniques I have found to be successful, and allow the student to be my guide as to which direction to take with his or her vocal training. Whether the student is a novice, a professional, or somewhere in between, each student, after obtaining the basic singing knowledge and techniques, will have a vocal training schedule geared to his or her individual needs and development. Lessons are for the most part very casual in nature, and the student’s dedication (practice, practice, practice) will dictate whether or not the lessons become stricter. A few months into the vocal instruction, students will be given the opportunity to learn more about reading music and sight singing, if he or she so chooses, as well as vocal performance techniques for singing in front of an audience. Within one year, dedicated students may also have the opportunity to show off what they have learned, and perform in front of an audience at a recital with other vocal students. Please note that my preference is to work with teens age 13 through adults of any age. I believe that younger voices need more time to develop and stand to be damaged if too much stress is put on them too soon. However, exceptions for children under 13 may be made for gifted young singers.

I've taken five 5 lessons with Jackson. I can tell he has a complete concept about singin and how to teach it. It is based on a lot of existing ideas and some he has developed. The difference is in how the concepts are applied to obtain a result, singing which teaches and moves an audience and not just a technically proficient voice. Candidly, it took me a few lessons to get the vocabulary and ideas to be clear when discussing the concepts and techniques. Now that I have that together I believe there is a lot here to learn. I highly recommend Jackson.

We moved to Mt. Vernon area less than a year ago, and we needed a piano instructor for our three children who was affordable, but both my husband and I are from musical backgrounds, which makes finding a teacher a difficult process, as we aren't interested in taking just anyone who happens to have a degree in music. Christine is a rare find. She teaches in what I would describe as an immersion style that keeps the lessons steeped with concepts from theory to technique to artistry. She surrounds the children (mine ages 5, 9, and 11) with explanation, demonstration, analogy, and encourages them to learn at their own pace. "Do you understand?" is her gentle motto, probing for areas where the children need reinforcement. When they admit they aren't getting something, she will circle back to explanation from many different angles, illustrating a deeply empathetic reading of individual learning styles. My 5 year old began lessons 3 months ago and is already reading music. She listens to the children and asks thoughtful questions about their personalities. Christine is exacting in the best way an invested parent could hope for. Masterfully, she challenges the children to perfect themselves as she allows the time for such training and evolution to take place. I have been so pleased and excited over the children's experience, that I am seriously considering taking voice lessons with her, myself. I could not more highly recommend a piano instructor.

Pierre-Olivier graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Mons (Belgium) and the Departmental Conservatory of Valenciennes (France) under the supervision of the prominent French lyric signing professor Daniel Ottevaere. When I finally spoke up why I have trouble practicing on me own. It evolved in my understanding of setting alarms for myself to set time for myself to actually do it. Plus he changed his tune and worked with me better too. But I had to talk about it myself first. Also he does help a lot indeed. And is very supportive, I am definitely going to record myself now and send it to him like he suggests. Probably not every day. But maybe 5-6 days a week hopefully. Definitely more after learning to set alarms for myself each day and set that time for my singing practice.

I only got to have courses with Pierre-Olivier for three months because he had to move to the USA, but these three months were the most productive for me.
I am student at a conservatory in Belgium and have a full training there but I found Pierre-Olivier's courses very (dare I say even more) interesting and complete.
I made a lot of progress during the 3 months I spent being his student: my technique improved a lot, and I learned so much about interpretation.
Pierre-Olivier has a vast general knowledge which is very pleasant as he can help you understand and analyse your score thoroughly. He not only teaches classical music but is open to a great deal of styles and I had the chance to explore the genres a bit more and exploit my voice.
I was really sad to see him leave because it is so hard to find a good teacher (trust me I had plenty) and hope he'll come back to Belgium
I am looking forward to seeing him again during one of his summer camps back in Europe.

I am a professor of a university in China. About 4 years ago, my daughter was a student of first grade in a junior school. At that time ,my daughter's English was not good, especially her pronunciation. I was very worry about it. I came to know Toni through some people of a English Corner, and asked her to help me and my daughter. That was the begin of the story of teacher Toni and my family. My daughter went to Toni's home almost every Sunday afternoon. Toni is a very good teacher, and very kind, very Patient to my daughter. Toni improved my daughter's English very quickly, and at same time make her like to learn it. My daughter like Toni very much, and every week had a very pleasant and interesting conversation. I began singing Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight at a very young age, but eventually fell in love with classical singing, as well. I teach many genres, with an equal love for all of them, but with a healthy technique so your singing is supported, comfortable, and therefore more enjoyable to both the listener and the performer. I will tailor the lessons to your individual desires, but generally focus on breath support, placement, and style/interpretation.I also enjoy helping students find their range. Originally from suburban Ohio, mezzo-soprano Amanda began her vocal pursuits singing the likes of Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight. As a teenager, a voice teacher introduced her to classical repertoire, and she has since enjoyed a fruitful operatic education and career.

Amanda received her Bachelors of Music Degree in Vocal Performance from Chapman University in Orange, California in 2011. There, she was the recipient of a scholarship, and graduated Magna cum laude. She enjoyed educational and performance experiences in Europe, studying abroad in London and performing throughout Italy with the Chapman University Choir.

Amanda went on to receive her Master's Degree from the Maryland Opera Studio at the University of Maryland. She has since gone on to apprenticeships and residencies with Dayton Opera, Charlottesville Opera, Pensacola
Opera, and has sung roles throughout the US and Canada.

Amanda also has a background in piano, and currently studies under Dr. Stanley Cornett at Peabody Conservatory.

Amanda believes in early exposure to music of different styles, and endorses an encouraging and imaginative approach. She considers musical studies to be not only individually rewarding, but also inherently valuable to any educational model.
