I am 39 years old now and have been playing drums since I was a kid. I also learned to read music when I was a kid too. However, I had stopped playing for many years and consequently my playing and reading became really rusty. But then I decided to pick it up again and reverb signed me up with Keith. After 24 lessons, my playing and reading have improved substantially and Keith helped me regain my passion for playing and confidence behind the kit. He is a great teacher and drummer, which shouldn't surprise anyone since he has decades of experience as a drummer/musician in the music industry. His easy-going personality made challenging lessons fun and his encouragement helped really motivate me to get better. I would definitely recommend Keith as an instructor, whether you're young or old, beginner or advanced. You'll even get a good friend out of it too.

Keith John has gone above and beyond the call of duty for a drum teacher. Over several years of taking his lessons I have noticed an incredible change in my playing. He encourages his students to follow their passion for music and tells amazing stories about his life as a professional musician. I highly recommend taking lessons from him: he is incredibly knowledgeable and his words of encouragement have everlasting worth.

Most genres of modern music can be taught; rock, metal, funk, blues, ect. There are several different books the student can choose to use to supplement the lessons.

For beginning drummers, I like to start with fundamentals and light theory, and certain physical exercises (which help make the limbs independent of each other). I also like to get the student to familiarize themselves with the instrument. I start of with easy rhythms on a drum pad (usually from a beginners percussion book), and slowly work up to working with a high-hat, snare, bass drum configuration. Once you're ready for the fun stuff, we can start incorporating easy songs you've always wanted to play, and then start moving the difficulty level up and up. All in all I try to combine the fun that comes with playing along to the songs you love, with a strong foundation of fundamentals and theory which will help you progress faster but with ease. For students that have already had some experience either percussive or ...

I believe it is important for a student to feel he/she is in a comfortable environment, which is why I tailor each lesson based on the student. I take into account not only n
atural talent and level of experience, but also progression and devotion. Whether the student is an adult looking to start a new and fun hobby, or a child with major aspirations to be come one of the greats, I can make sure either one gets the necessary instruction at a comfortable pace. Se Habla Español!

For students that have already had some experience either percussive or behind the kit, we can assess your level of experience and move from there.

For beginning guitarist, I begin by familiarizing the student with the instrument, and some very basic theory and tuning. We then move on to simple patterns to get those calluses on those finger tips. Then we start with chord charts and strumming rhythms. Followed by the fun stuff, which is actually playing a song. I am very open to my student's tastes and encourage them to bring in songs they would like to learn, because I when someone is familiar with a particular song, it can be almost as if your fingers naturally know what to do. I can teach both electric, classical acoustic, and steel acoustic guitars. For students who are further along, I like to assess their particular level first, and go on from there.

Fabio is a great teacher. I am learning music concepts as well as to play the guitar chords, riffs, for a huge variety of classic and newer rock songs. He is flexible and open to my requests or to go over areas that I need repeating. You will really enjoy being taught by Fabio. BTW he has a different hair cut now.

“I assist my students with playing like their musical idols by using proper teaching methods to help them become well versed in the musical styling of their choice.” -Travis Blum

"I love meeting the needs of my students to enhance their musical growth." -Travis Blum

Piano students will focus on the most important skills and concepts they need to be able to play proficiently and musically. This will be through the use of proper technique and providing a clear explanation of music theory, scales, progressions, harmonizing, improvising, ear training, sight reading and understanding lead sheets. All will be in the best interest of the student in order to focus them toward playing the songs and styles they wish to play. Everything will be demonstrated and explained thoroughly with clarity and patience. Exercises to help the students build confidence to play parts that they can call their own will be encouraged.

Drum lessons will improve the students technique and creativity while introducing the many diverse styles. Students will implement the use of the rudiments and see how they might be applied to beats or fills on the drum set. Linear patterns and four way coordination patterns will be applied for developing good coordination skills and ambidextrous discipline in advanced players. Beginners will learn to grasp a feel of straight quarter, eighth and sixteenth note beats. Shuffle and swing rhythms will be covered so the student can get a feel of grooves that are based on these concepts. Students may also learn about music and rhythms from all over the world, as they apply to all of the styles of modern music as we know it. After the basis of various rhythmic concepts are applied, then the student can reach into the field of playing over the bar line, playing in odd meters, and soloing.

About Charles
Outside of teaching percussion and musical performances I have worked in special education for over 15 years.

My life of music started knee high at the age of 4 playing drums and piano. At the age of 15 I gave my first musical performance, from that stage on I knew my talent had found a home.

In the 11th grade I toured with a local funk group in Washington DC through 26 cities learning music and the life of travel at an early age. During my last high school and college years I performed extensively playing classical, jazz, rock, funk, go-go, gospel, marching band, R&B, and with local rap artist.

Recording credits and highlights include work with Def Jam artist Steady Eddy, recording go-go Mario with Double Agent Rock, and recordings with Little Benny and the Masters.

My other musical passion is teaching. Throughout my col
lege years and beyond I served as a percussion instructor and assistant band director at Morgan State University. As part of the Morgan State University Magnificent Marching Machine I served as a instructional leader in music and performance mentor for the team. I taught part time as a percussion instructor at Milford Mill High School giving individual lessons for over 10 years.

Musical inspiration is an important element to the refinement of my craft. A few personal musical influences are Buddy Rich, Max Roach, Neil Peart (Rush), Dennis Chambers, (Santana), George Gray (Roberta Flack), Ricky Wellman (Miles Davis), Quinton Mack-Davis (Rare Essence) and Michael Bland (Prince).

*** Lesson Details ***
Within the first three months of lessons student will gain a strong foundation of sight reading and basic drum techniques in both rudiment studies and playing the drum set. Our son has never played in a marching band before but is interested in playing in the marching band when he attends college in July so we were specifically looking for an instructor who had marching band experience to teach our son since he's never participated in the marching band in high school. We saw Mr. Stewart's profile and decided to have him work with our son. That was the BEST decision that we could have ever made. We have been nothing but impressed with Mr. Stewart. He definitely has the gift of teaching and he is very patient, knowledgeable, and he challenges our son to get better by giving him homework after each session. Our son absolutely LOVES Mr. Stewart and he is always excited for each lesson and to practice what Mr. Stewart has taught him. Our son went from not playing in the marching band at all in high school to making his college band and receiving a scholarship all thanks to Mr. Stewart. We are very grateful for his outstanding teaching and we would definitely recommend Mr. Stewart 100%.

I've been playing and teaching drums/percussion for nearly 4 decades. There is virtually nothing about this aspect of music that I haven't professionally experienced and taught. My students learn to both read/write music and 'play-by-ear, as they gain total command of traditional Concert/Symphonic snare concepts, Contemporary Rock, Latin, Country, and Jazz styles. I'm a retired military musician who spent nearly 25 years playing for the U. S. Naval Academy Band and the U.S. Navy Band in Washington, DC, playing Martial music, Concert Band music, Jazz Combo music, and Rock music; all experiences I gladly share with each of my local and internet students.

About Tod
T. Alan Lucia, BS, BA, M. Ed, International Studies Ancient/Contemporary Lore; Ret. CPO, U.S. Navy Band
________________________________________
T. Alan Lucia began his music career with a small town New England Drum Corp, back in 1966. Some of the basic snare drumming techniques (Rudiments) used around the world were learned back in those days. Finding that he liked the physical sounds and challenges involved with playing percussion, Alan took the next step and began a regime of private drum set (drum kit) lessons, under the tutelage of Mr. John Soroka, a one-time U.S. Army Musician.
This concentration on drum kit studies was shortly enhanced when, at the age of 12, Alan joined a local variety music group, "The Goldenaires." This four-piece group performed local weddings, parties, etc., up through most of Alan's high school years. With t
he help of older band members and parents, a considerable amount of musical experience was gained, resulting toward the end of high school in a partial scholarship to Berklee School of Music in Boston, Mass.
Opting to begin a professional music career straight out of high school, Alan bypassed the Berklee opportunity, and instead auditioned for, and won a chance to become a working musician in the U.S. Navy's Music Program. That chance was realized fully when, after attending the Armed Forces School of Music, Norfolk, VA, in 1977, he graduated "First-in-Class," and hence became assigned to work with the U.S. Naval Academy Band, Annapolis, MD., as a founding member of the Jazz/Rock group, The Electric Brigade; a group that, after thirty-plus years is still serving the musical needs of U.S. Midshipmen, and the extended Naval Community.
In 1980 Alan was transferred to The Navy Band, Washington, DC, where he worked with the Full Honors Ceremonial Band, the Commander's Jazz Trio, and eventually the Jazz/Rock group, TOPSIDE. While in Washington, Alan, by then Chief Musician Lucia, regularly performed musical support for visiting Heads of State at the US State Department, the Vice President's Residence, the White House, the Pentagon, numerous Congressional Buildings, various Embassies, and Arlington National Cemetery, as well as both around the United States and in Europe.

No professional drummer is just a drummer. That's why I take a holistic approach to teaching drums. I hold a Bachelors in Music with a minor in Audio Production. So, my students will learn to play the drums in every contemporary style, but also they will come away with a working knowledge of music theory, songwriting, and music production. Having all these tools will not just make you a more valuable member of a band, but will allow you to make your own music when there are no other musicians around.

About Michael
I started playing drums at ten years old and came up through the indie music scene in the Bay Area playing in bands in high school. My teacher was adamant about the value of learning different styles, which is something that stuck with me through my years earning an AA in Drum Performance and then a Bachelors of Music from the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles.
