Enjoyment and engagement precede technical study— always!

Why are you drawn to this instrument, piece of music, or performance situation? We will study all of the things you’d expect: scales, exercises, études, and repertoire. But I like to think I add more value than the notes on the page. And learning to play an instrument is all about reflecting your joy of playing it to the world! Precision is necessary but first is passion. This is why we always begin with enjoyment and engagement.

I consider the whole person I am teaching. I like to approach playing any musical instrument with the whole mind and body. You’ll learn how to most naturally hold and play your instrument with as much ease as if you were simply walking down the street. Only with ease can we play these instruments for life!

i was so fortunate in my earliest viola lessons as a child to learn from teachers who studied with Karen Tuttle and William Primrose.

I have spent the past 20 years learning about the body, brain, and mind and how we learn! So I really investigated the process of learning to play at a technically and artistically high level.

Viola is such a beautiful instrument full of so many tone colors, and playing harmony in ensembles really gives you an ear for harmony that is difficult to get any other way.

I will guide you through your viola journey because we need more great creative viola players in the word!

About Amy

I am the great-granddaughter of a musician who used to play with Ella Fitzgerald and Benny Goodman in NYC in the 1930s and 40s! I believe every person has the right to be musically fluent, and to have music available to them as a tool for self expression, emotional expression, stress relief, and

In our first lesson, you will learn about the parts of your instrument, how to care for it, and how to hold it. You will even learn some notes and begin reading music! By the end of your first package of lessons, you will be able to play with lovely tone, using the bow as well as plucking, and will have a handful of simple songs under your belt.

Students describe me as patient, fun, and encouraging! As your teacher, you can expect me to work with you from where you are, and with subjects and curriculum that match what you are interested in learning. I teach traditional classical, using either Suzuki or Essential Elements, depending on your learning and self-motivational needs, and I also teach fiddle music, including Celtic, old-time, bluegrass, and alternative styles. *Please check my availability before signing up, as my time slots are quickly filling up!* I look forward to meeting you! I have found that the classical music world can often fall into the trap of being stuffy, competitive, and intimidating. The professional scene can sometimes lose sight of what's really important (that music is supposed to be fun and enjoyable!) and unfortunately drive some people away from this divine art form. Music is everything and everywhere - it is the most intimate, intuitive and beautiful language that transcends the oral and written word. I do emphasize proper technique in lessons, but I do not lose sight of this truth and try my best to keep my students motivated and inspired. With all that being said, I can go at whatever pace the student wishes. I can provide a low pressure, light hearted environment. I am also capable of placing focus on refining proper violin/viola technique - this creates the best results and faster progress. At the end of each lesson, I give clear instructions how to productively practice at home.

About Aekyung

Graduated from The Juilliard School with both my Master's and Bachelor's degree. Studied with the principal of the NY Philharmonic. Suzuki Certified Teacher. Currently on faculty at an established music institute in CT and the Assistant Principal violist of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. More

Whether you're a beginner looking to explore a new instrument, or a young professional preparing for an orchestral or college audition, I'm eager to share my passion of music and teaching experience with you. Throughout my teaching and performing career, I have been highly successful at helping students bring out the very best they can offer. Many of my students got accepted to study at major universities and music conservatories, and/or earned positions at orchestras or teaching institutions.

I'm strict and have very high expectations, but I was also praised for being encouraging and supportive. I strongly believe in the power of music, and the many benefits of learning a musical instrument.

My daughter loves Mr Ferenc, he is so kind, patient and thorough, and works with our limited schedule. As a former violin player myself, (albeit 22 years ago) I really appreciate how exacting his standards are for form and posture and I wish my early instructors had been of his caliber.
Ted
Ferenc is an incredibly talented violinist and mentor, who used to be a violin professor before coming to Vegas. Besides being knowledgeable, he is also very patient with kids (being a parent himself). He might travel to the student's location, but I don't know for sure.

"I have learned a lot from my lessons with Shadwa. She has a knack for explaining technique, for making the connections between the physical movement and the sound produced. (Yes, it really does help to stand up straight!) She takes a personal interest in her students, which makes for a great lesson atmosphere. We established longer term goals that we could work towards; I appreciated her patience and creativity. Even scales became more than just boring drills! I definitely recommend her as a viola teacher for adults!"
