I am a Masters of Music student at the Juilliard School with extensive experience performing as a classical violinist and violist in solo, chamber, and orchestral music. I have been playing the violin since the age of 5 and have participated recently in many well known music programs such as the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, the Music Academy of the West, New York String Orchestra Seminar, and Aspen Music Festival. I have experience teaching in violin sections in orchestra and group classes through the Tufts Community Music Program. I grew up learning through the Suzuki method, so I encourage learning by ear and emphasize the importance of efficient and organized practice. In a lesson with me, I would focus on learning classical violin technique in order to produce the best sound, while allowing the student to pick their repertoire based on their musical preferences, however always encouraging exploration of the classical genre!

About Julia

I’m a violist in the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra! I teach both viola and violin, from beginner to advanced levels. I am also available for practice help sessions or one time coachings. I will be earning my Masters from The Juilliard School this year and hold a Bachelor of Science from Tufts Uni

BEST TEACHER EVER! Seeri started our son with violin when he was 8 and a half. He has been thriving since and got into a great orchestra less than a year after beginning violin (another orchestra than his school's)! Seeri is an incredible blend of an exquisite person and a superbly focused and intense teacher. She is a natural with children (and my son is hard to lead): kind yet firm, playful at times but always keeping the child on the track of the present learning and practice. She also teaches everything, music reading and theory included. A pure gem.

BEST music teacher ever! Seeri started my son with violin when he was 8 and a half. Since then, he has not stopped thriving with violin and he got into a good orchestra besides his school's less than a year after she started teaching him. She is a natural with children (my son is not easy to lead), kind, playful and yet very focused and intense; firm but always gentle. She LOVES her instrument and music in general. She teaches everything, theory included. A pure gem of a teacher and a rare person.

"I'm an adult learner who went through Suzuki book 2 and a few other pieces with Phoebe as my instructor. I spent a month prior with a "bad experience" and hadn't taken lessons in probably 10 years before that.

Working with Phoebe was GREAT. She was very easy to work with and really saw to improving my skills. She was encouraging and very positive. When I had troubles with parts (which was often), she would always have multiple suggestions as to how to practice them to work through the difficulties. She also gave me nudges along when I didn't think I could do certain things too. All in all, I had a great experience working with Phoebe and would have loved to continue to work with her if she was still in my local area.

If you're wondering why not 5 stars, that's more from my lack of experience than any issue with her. The guide says 5 stars is the "best teacher ever". She probably was the best teacher ever for me, but I'm somewhere between beginner and intermediate. Is she a good fit for an advanced student, I'm going to guess that, yes, she is, but I don't know that info personally so I went with 4."

"Gives you confidence in your own abilities

Jessie taught my daughter from June 2011-Dec 2012. She has been an excellent teacher for my 4 year old. It is really a challenge to keep kids focused at this age and Jessie was always up for the challenge. She simplified things down to really basic tasks that the kids can do and more importantly enjoy the learning experience.

During the period our little girl developed the confidence to play in front of a large audience. She could compose her own variations and play it with authority.

Jessie was always on time and professional with her approach. She always brought prints for parents to follow through on the lessons. It made practices at home really simple for us. We could see progress in our daughter's abilities every week.

We felt sorry that we could not continue on with her because of us relocating to a different city and her move as well. I would greatly recommend her for your violin lessons."

"We have three kids taking lessons (two violin and one cello), one of which transferred from another teacher. The transition from the other teacher to Ferenc was extremely smooth as she was able to pick up right where she left off. The other two started lessons with Ferenc and have progressed well. We are extremely pleased with his instruction."
