Derek is a very knowledgable instructor, easy to talk to, and I found his teaching technique is very motivating. He set realistic practice goals for the next session, which will require me to do my part, but that's the reason we show up, to learn how to play a musical instrument.
I highly recommend him.

Very patient and professional

Jessie is very patient, professional, flexible. I'm a college student and busy with school work, but I still learned a lot from her, not only in violin skills, but also music theory and so on. She also teaches me how to practice instead of just showing me the pieces.

Gives you confidence in your own abilities

Jessie taught my daughter from June 2011-Dec 2012. She has been an excellent teacher for my 4 year old. It is really a challenge to keep kids focused at this age and Jessie was always up for the challenge. She simplified things down to really basic tasks that the kids can do and more importantly enjoy the learning experience.

During the period our little girl developed the confidence to play in front of a large audience. She could compose her own variations and play it with authority.

Jessie was always on time and professional with her approach. She always brought prints for parents to follow through on the lessons. It made practices at home really simple for us. We could see progress in our daughter's abilities every week.

We felt sorry that we could not continue on with her because of us relocating to a different city and her move as well. I would greatly recommend her for your violin lessons.

I believe in a friendly, comfortable atmosphere between teacher and student that promotes the optimal mindset for the student to progress, and to believe in themself.

Technique-wise, there will be lots of work on intonation, tone production, and accuracy of rhythms!

Musically, I like to ask the student for their own ideas, and offer my input afterwards. Music is an expressive art, and the teacher's job is to help the student best express themselves.

I tend to let students play everything that they have practiced for me before making comments. Using my tablet, I notate all ideas and corrections on a pdf version of your music, and email the pdf to you after the lesson.

About Josiah

I am currently a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at the University of Oklahoma, where I am on fellowship as a violinist in the resident graduate string quartet, the Crouse Quartet. In addition, I serve as co-concertmaster of the University of Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra. Regarding the teaching sph

"Hannah helped me an immense amount with technique. I started singing backing vocals in my country band and was having a lot of problem singing harmonies and breathing while singing in general. Thanks to Hanna, I am now a lot more comfortable doing backgrounds, and my bandmates are happy that I am picking up the slack. Thanks Hannah!"

"As a student of Teresa's I can say myself and my family are very pleased with the progress I have made all thanks to her! She is a teacher who truly listens and proceeds according to what the student desires to learn, rather than taking a very traditional method. To be able to learn pieces of my generation, rather than that of the past, it makes the learning experience and my talent pay off much more in the long-term. Thanks to Teresa, my life has become much more musical and has gained an escape within the keys of my piano."

"My two children absolutely loves taking piano lessons from Ms. Marty. In the past, both of them dreaded piano lessons and anything that had to do with piano. Once we found Ms. Marty, the kids have a new attitude towards learning and practicing. My daughter even asks to practice everyday! Ms. Marty has her own unique way of teaching the material so that kids can understand. I also like how she blends the traditional methods of teaching piano with the new 'tech' world we live in. She knows where to look for material and websites online that will help children with their music learning."

All I can say is wow.

Practical, able to respond to learning styles and abilities individually, there's no one size fits all for her. It's all about what you want to learn in the most effective way based on where you are right now.

I also sing, so she is helping me raise my game playing piano and singing.
