About Lynn
Lynn B. attended four of the very best art colleges in the country With over 40 years experience in both painting and teaching art, she is well equipped to teach both any style and medium and to absolute beginners through advanced students.

Ms. Buettner has studied at several of the most prestigious art schools in the Northeast including: Rhode Island School of Design, The New York Art Students' League, the Paier College of Art in Connecticut, and the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. Her work has been shown in galleries throughout the United States and Canada, and is in collections worldwide. Summering on the East Coast on Martha's Vineyard Island, Ms. Buettner's work quickly became known and collected by local residents and returning island guests. Most originals were sold while still on her easel.

To keep up with demand, sh
e created a complete product line including collector's limited edition prints, her signature greeting card with collectible art magnet, art magnets, post cards, photo magnet frames, calendars, notebooks, folders and photo albums.

The publishing company that licensed her designs flew her to China to do an art signing at the Canton World Trade Show.

Enthusiastically sharing her knowledge, she has taught all levels of art to both beginners and adults for the past thirty years. She created and taught a very successful after school art program for kids for over ten years as well. After devoting the last twenty years to painting scenes ranging from realistic to impressionistic, Ms. Buettner is venturing out with her accomplished techniques and abilities, into the exciting and unusual world of intuitive expression. Letting go of conscious thoughts, an exciting, creative and sensual world emerges to be shared with the viewer. This work has been coined Neo Biomorphic.

Her work has been used on many different commercial projects including the Nash Bridges TV Show and the TV movie Diary of a Mad Housewife.

Starting a very successful after school art program for grades 1-6, she has extensive experience in all age groups bringing the student from beginning drawing to the most advanced painting techniques that took over 40 years to acquire.

Lynn was so helpful in aiding me to complete a project I have been wanting to complete. She went at my speed (sometimes slow, sometimes hasty) and helped me with techniques I had no idea about and others I just did not know how to do well. I was working on a portrait of a young girl in a dress and she helped me create the pleats in the dress and work on the girl's complextion and hair. As a hobby painter, I am very pleased with my final product which I am going to give as a gift with confidence!

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Since I schedule classes through other outlets my availability varies. I've marked availability only to make my profile visible to potential students so, the availability you see is not my actual availability. Since my availability is never fixed and I'd like to avoid disappointing booking experiences, please contact me at 202-559-7981 to check my availability. If we can confirm a meeting time, I'll mark that availability on the Take Lessons site and you can book and confirm our meeting through there.

Thank you for considering me in your search for photography instruction.

It doesn't matter whether you use a film or digital camera. The camera is a tool that you use to create photographs.

During your photography class with me you’ll learn to use your camera and you’ll learn the skills that you need to
use your camera effectively and with confidence.

If you’re just getting started or a more advanced photographer, I offer a variety of photography courses that are geared toward a wide range of skill levels and interests.

My approach to teaching has been shaped by my photography teachers and by my experience working as a professional photographer. While I learned a lot about the craft of photography from good teachers, I learned to be a photographer by using my camera and mindfully applying what I learned from my teachers during the process of creating a photograph.

I think the best way to learn something is to learn by doing it and I make sure that we have plenty of time to practice what we cover during our time together in class. If you’re in a multi-week class, you’ll get homework too. Homework aimed at getting you to utilize the lessons we cover in class so you can create photographs that are uniquely your own.

As a participant in my photography classes you’ll get a good understanding of the material being presented in addition to hands on practical experience. What you won’t get are my judgments about your work, instead you’ll be encouraged to formulate your own opinions about your work and then I’ll offer you guidance based on your personal goals in photography.

Whether you are using a film SLR, a digital SLR (DSLR ), or another type of camera, I’ll help you to be the best photographer that you can be.

Courses are offered in Washington, DC or online. Private instruction and custom group workshops are also available.

About David
I have a bachelors degree in printmaking and oil painting and spent some time in Florence, Italy studying painting and drawing through the high renaissance masters. Currently I draw and paint in my spare time. I love teaching art as a way to connect with other artist and creative people who like talking about and creating art.

Through introducing or reviewing the fundamental principles in art and applying those to the lessons and exercises I assign for after class hours, you’ll see yourself improve week after week and gain more confidence in your artistic ability. I create a custom syllabus for you to review and work in things you’d like to try, certain mediums or subject matter to make it more appealing to you.

Making art should be fun and restorative! There’s a reason all of Bob Ross’s trees and clouds were so happy! Often times my
students and I will have class in a park on a nice day or at museum.

David did a good job breaking down how to draw a candle using the grid method. The concept he taught me is really easy to apply and helped me complete my first assignment. He is a good instructor.

About Isabela
I'm an enthusiastic learner even after 19 years of formal education (two Masters, one Bachelor) earned on two continents continued by US military education in various forms, and formally tested student who needed to document skills that were not formally captured on paper (like the foreign languages I know).

I love interacting with people and pass on my knowledge from five visited continents, instill love for learning and continuous curiosity for any subject out there. Nothing is impossible when you set your mind to it. Failing once doesn't mean that you'll never win (proof in my athletic years and life ever since); determination, hard work, self-motivation and a good supporting system can bring to reality even the most insignificant dreams that we believe may not come true, and especially those in which we passionately trust.

I be
lieve in breaking down a goal into objectives, assigning tasks to each one of them, and then sticking to achieve them.

I'm a Certified Instructor with the Department of Homeland Security. My hobbies include practicing foreign languages by speaking them, learning about cultures and slangs, etymology, watching foreign movies, traveling internationally, taking photos, reading (a lot), carefully planning with room for error and impulsive decisions (to take the boredom out of things), meeting with life long friends, drawing, painting, and spending time outdoors for inspiration.

I'm elated at the opportunity of brainstorming with you and giving you tools to be an independent learner.

Isabela is a great teacher who truly has a passion for art. She took the time to share helpful tips and stories of her own experiences with our group of twelve, and did so in a fun and energetic manner. She managed to keep us all engaged and was a delight to have in our office. I would highly recommend Isabela!

I am a freelance photographer and a student at CSULB; when I'm not studying mechanical engineering I'm out doing shoots or working on editing photos. I primarily shoot portraits and headshots and I work with brands to create lifestyle images that show off their products. Although I've worked with many different types of companies and individuals, my passion is in street photography, particularly with my medium format film camera. I love documenting things, whether it's taking photos of a clothing brand's new swimsuit or just documenting everyday life around my neighborhood.

I fell in love with photography about 7 years ago and I've been working hard to get great shots ever since. When I first got into photography I was taught the history of photography, the fundamentals of composition, and the basics of how to use a camera. I think it's
essential that beginner photographers learn and really internalize these things because it will really make a huge difference in the quality of an image. And for photographers who already understand these concepts, there are more advanced concepts that can really elevate photography into a truly creative art form.
