I earned my B.A. in music at Hood College and have spent the last fifteen years teaching general music classes as well as private voice and piano. I am also a preschool teacher in Montgomery County and my strengths lie in working with young children. If you are looking for a beginning piano teacher for your child, I would love to meet you! I use the Alfred series and generally have students work out of the technique, repertoire and theory books. Lessons are designed to be a half hour, and I understand the importance of changing activities frequently and keeping lessons fun and engaging when working with young children.

I generally start a beginner student on the Rubank method. Once through the first book, I encourage the student to start learning how to make reeds. Once the student has developed a good embouchure, I like to provide the student reeds that I make so that we can work on breathe control, dynamics and articulation. Once through the second Rubank book, I then move the student into Barret.

"Arrica has been such a wonderful teacher for my 11-year-old daughter. (She was 9 when she started with Arrica.) Our girl has a lot of raw talent but needed some good instruction that wasn't too formal. Africa is just the right blend of traditional singing technique and fun rock-n-roll, record your own music on Garage band. We love her!"
