• a solid technical and musical foundation for beginners
• improved technique and increased musical expressiveness for intermediate & advanced players
• support developing strong rhythm and sight-reading skills
• a sense of community with other students and parents during this time of isolation
• confidence and joy in performing

I use a combination of Suzuki approaches, improvisation, Dalcroze-inspired eurythmics, and somatic movement awareness (inspired by Feldenkrais and Alexander Technique) to simultaneously develop fluent musicality, joy in making music, a solid instrumental technique, and musicianship (including reading and theory). A former sufferer of tendonitis, she has a particular interest in addressing and preventing performance injuries, in both beginning and experienced players.

Hi! I am a Juilliard-Columbia Dual Degree student offering both online and in person lessons to violinists of all skill levels! Whether you are practicing for school orchestra, just a casual violinist looking to get better, or auditioning for elite music schools, I will accommodate the intensity and difficulty my teaching to your needs. Furthermore, with over five years of teaching experience and fourteen years as a soloist/orchestral musician, I offer a vast understanding of all the musical and technical intricacies of the instrument.
My teaching style revolves on sound itself. Of course, technique and musicality are all important, but when it comes down to it, music is just the production of sound. With all my students, I always start by teaching them to interpret, analyze, and produce a beautiful sound. My job is help my students develop their own sophisticated ideas of sound and lay the fundamentals of being a violinist so that they can become beautiful and unique musicians ...

"Victor is an excellent teacher. He teaches music that I am interested in, and tailors lessons to my skill level. He has a strong background in music theory, and has done a great job of helping me grasp concepts that I have never understood before. As an beginning adult student, I could not have found a better teacher."

"I watched Dr. I. teach and was amazed at what an empathic and intuitive teacher she is. It seems that for every student she is able to modify and alter her approach to fit the personality and experience of the student, making it truly a tailored-for learning experience. Her expertise is obvious but it was nice to see how positive and encouraging she was."

"Before taking lessons from Steven I didn't know it was possible to enjoy practicing my violin. I enjoyed all my rehearsals and quartets of course, but when it came time to practice at home alone I lost all motivation. Steven opened my eyes to what it really meant and feels to be a musician, and in doing so I went from the back of the second violin section in the orchestra to the first few stands of the first violin section. Even other instructors and students at my music school noticed my improvement in technique and skill. Aside from becoming a much better violin player, Steven also helped me recognize my own potential and encouraged me to work hard; to believe in myself. Having Steven as my teacher was the best decision I've made throughout my musical career."

"Ali is a very talented violin player. When I first started lessons with her, I was a beginner. The violin sounded squeaky and miserable. I couldn't understand what I was doing wrong. Ali simply modified my hand angle, raised my elbow slightly, and made me stand up straighter. She said 'Try now', and the sound was beautiful - a huge difference! We both couldn't stop laughing. She really does know what she is doing and can teach really well. Not to mention, she is a really nice person. She also is flexible and will go along with my schedule. Thanks for everything Ali!"

"Ha-eun is a great violin teacher. I'm an adult learner that picked up the violin to try something different. I've played saxophone for 15 years, and have gone through many types of teachers. I can say Ha-eun is one of the best. She's experienced and patient. We started lessons in person and moved to online because of COVID19, and still going strong through the Suzuki book. She would be great to teach young or old alike!"

"I strongly recommend Ms. Quinn. She is amazing. I love a teacher who is passionate about what she does and Ms. Quinn has motivated me to love the violin and work harder to improve. She is slightly strict but very patience and kind, always pushing you to work hard and do your best. I learned to play violin a few years ago as a beginner and stopped playing for a few years. I was nervous to begin online violin lessons considering that I learn better face to face. However, Ms. Quinn has done an amazing job at teaching me, I have been taking lessons with her for a year now and have learned so much I didn’t know before which has also grown my love for violin."

How to Play the Violin Like Lindsey Stirling

The inimitable Lindsey Stirling has shaken the world’s concept of classical music.
