Watching my students overcome challenges and develop their own musicality is what makes this the best job in the world. I truly believe that anyone can learn music just like anyone can learn a language. I most enjoy meeting new people and discovering what they're passionate about as well as how they learn best. I pride myself on my problem solving skills, positive attitude, patience, resourcefulness, and creativity.

I have a peaceful home studio in Laurel, MD, but can also travel to students for in home lessons or give lessons online via webcam. I prefer to teach in my studio, however, because I have a wide variety of resources available to enhance your learning experience. (For example, I can't haul my 88 key Yamaha piano to and from your house every week ;)

I think I differ from other teachers in two distinct ways.
First, I don't give up. I will pick your brain and try to communicate musical concepts to you in any way, shape or form until you leave the lesson feeling like ...

About Carly

Hello! My name is Carly Cascio. My relationship with music started when I was just 6 years old. My mother signed me up for suzuki violin lessons and I hated them so much I threw my violin on the ground. 18 years later and here I am now, teaching violin for a living! I really didn't foresee mysel

Carly makes lessons interesting and fun for my 10 year old son. My son is high energy, and yet he is able to concentrate, focus and enjoy!

We plan to continue lessons on line with Carly during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Carly is an amazing teacher. I've been her student for about a year and a half now and I have learned so much from her. She's the kind of teacher who helps you understand the lesson through various ways to truly make you get it.

I have learned quite a number of songs that I have always wanted to learn to play but thought I couldn't because the difference in skill was too great. I am a huge fan of Lindsey Stirling and because of Carly, I have learned how to play Take Flight, First Light, Brave Enough, River Flows in You, Hallelujah, Beyond the Veil. Take Flight was the song that made me want to learn the violin and I am ecstatic to say that I can play it.

If you decide you want to learn the violin or another instrument that she plays, you can't go wrong with Carly!

I am a certified Suzuki Method teacher, currently trained in levels 1-3, with plans for further certification training.

I am fun and supportive. I'm having just as much fun teaching as I want my students to have learning, and creating a patient, supportive environment is integral to my students' development.

I teach all ages and abilities. I am experienced in a variety of teaching levels, from beginning to advanced studies.

Each student has lessons structured according to their individual goals, learning speeds, and musical levels. I teach students of all levels positive playing habits and how to avoid bad habits, and I teach these using the standard classical repertoire for violin and viola.

I emphasize technique and the fundamentals of theory, with students of all levels so they will have the essential building blocks and tools they need to succeed.

I am professional. I have received some of the best education in my field, and with over 20 years of experience in music

About Anna

Inspired by Disney's Fantasia to play violin at age 4, violist Anna Bross hasn't been able to stop performing ever since. She has gone from playing in Grandma's living room to pursuing her dream in Symphony Orchestras and Chamber Groups all across America. She has performed in Arkansas, Colorado

Anna is very good at explaining terms and methods in a way that can be easily understood by a novice such as myself by catering to one's style of learning while at the same time ensuring that the student remain grounded on the fundamentals whether it is in the finger positioning, bowing strokes, or proper posture. I love how she is able not only to identify things that I might be doing wrong but also solutions to difficulties that I might be having during the lessons. As a result, I am very happy at how I have progressed in my skill level since I started a couple of months ago. She is very patient, listens to concerns of the student, very easy to talk to, and has a laid back learning environment. I would highly recommend her to anyone I know who might be interested in learning the violin, whether young or old like myself.

"I do not have ear for music nor have any prior knowledge on music. I was very skeptical so I was not really committed to it. But Anna understood my limitation and motivated me to see music in different way and now I love it. I have been taking classes with her now more than six months and hands down best Violin teacher. She is very patient, motivating, funny and most of all very talented and knows how to make music stick for non-musical people like me.
Thank you so much for introducing me to violin in a right way that now I like to play for playing."

"Our 8 year old had been taking violin for two years and was about to the point of quitting due to the lack of motivational teaching. I went in search of a teacher that could motivate her while still progressing rapidly each week! My daughter is so eager to please Cristina, because she makes the lessons fun and interesting. When I check in to see how the lesson is going, my daughter is engaged, and answering questions correctly which tells me she's still paying attention - even in the evening hours when she's tired. Cristina mixes classical and popular music as well. I still have to ask my daughter to practice each night but she pulls out her violin on her own a couple of times a week as well. It's a complete 180 from where we were 8 months ago. Cristina is a rare find and I'd recommend her to anyone who wants to ensure their child is getting the best violin training while being inspired!"

How Can I Make Practicing Violin Scales More Effective?

No matter how much students may groan when it comes to scales, they are very important for all beginners to know, particularly for the violin. Almost all of your knowledge about playing the violin starts with learning how to play scales, from reading sheet music to better understanding the fingerings. Of course, it is not nearly as exciting as playing one of the songs you love, but practicing scales will give you a strong foundation that will help you progress and improve. Violin scales are typ …
