I have over 30 years experience as a music teacher. Although guitar is my main instrument, I play several stringed instruments, including mandolin, well enough to teach beginners of ALL ages - children, teens, and adults. I have played mandolin with bluegrass bands, in the past.
Mandolin is a good first instrument for those who have never played a stringed instrument before, and for young children whose hands are not strong enough to play a larger instrument such as a guitar. It is fairly easy to learn, and fun to play.

About Linda
*** Travel Equipment ***
I do not typically provide any equipment - but I am willing to select and purchase books for the students to learn from (cost of books to be reimbursed by the student/parent) when requested to do so.

I am also willing to provide stick-on note-names for the keyboard, for young children.

The students must have their own instruments, and provide a folder for sheet music and notes/instructions.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar, I specialize in the following styles: jazz, rock, blues, folk, bluegrass, and children's songs.
Piano: I prefer electronic keyboard to acoustic piano, but am happy to teach beginning students on a regular piano as well. I teach note-reading, playing by ear, and theory, with en emphasis on rock, pop, and folk music. I include arranging, chord theory, and use of the many features of an elec
tronic keyboard, in the lessons.
Bass Guitar: I teach rock, pop, funk, and country music on bass.
Banjo: I teach bluegrass, country, and some blues and rock music. I can also teach a bit of old-timey frailing/clawhammer style.
English and Reading: I am highly qualified, to tutor/teach English (spoken, written, and reading comprehension) to both native English speakers and to those learning it as a second language.
*** I am particularly good at working with children who have a.d.h.d. and other learning disabilities!

Epic teacher

I've had a few guitar instructors through out my life and Chris was by far the best one I’ve had. I went to him after taking guitar for a couple years with other instructors and he helped me rediscover my love for it. He’s motivating, smart, and all around a great instructor. I’d recommend him to anyone--from beginners to even more advanced guitarists. He really is the best!

just what i needed

Chris was instrumental in me rediscovering my love of guitar through performance. For the band that was assembled we were allowed to pick the songs which made us more motivated as well as making it fun. Chris was excellent at determining your strengths and challenging you. I had never played lead guitar before. Now I expect to be the lead guitarist for the band.

Chris is a man's man.

I took lessons with Chris for probably a year and a half, maybe two years. He was easily one of the greatest teachers I've ever had. He would let me pick the songs I wanted to learn and then, despite his feelings toward the music, would listen intently to the song, figure out everything about how it's played, and then decide the most appropriate way to go about teaching said song according to what he knew I was and wasn't capable of. He always pushed me to do better and if I couldn't get passed a certain part we would work on it until I nailed it. Not to mention he's a really cool dude so there was never a dull moment. I can't recommend him enough.

**NEW STUDENT PROMOTION*--New students get their first 5 lessons for $100 or a reduced hourly rate before rates go back to $28/30-min session!* I've taught from ages 4 to 74 on mandolin in my teaching studio, which has been kicking since 2001, after earning my degree in music performance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Students describe me as patient, fun, and encouraging! As your teacher, you can expect me to work with you from where you are, and with subjects and curriculum that match what you are interested in learning. **PLEASE CHECK MY AVAILABILITY BEFORE SIGNING UP FOR LESSONS, AS MY TIMES ARE QUITE LIMITED NOW** I look forward to meeting you! Call Take Lessons today to sign up!

About Rachel
I am currently running a new student promotion! Prices displayed on profile are for the first 5 pack of lessons. Afterward, rates are as follows.:

30 minutes for $28.00
60 minutes for $56.00

Many students begin with hour lessons, then switch to 30 minute lessons once we have a good foundation and momentum, which also keeps their budget the same for lessons!

Once you are ready to take on music lessons, your life will never be the same. Music enriches our minds and lives in many ways, including expanding our expectations past what we think is possible for ourselves! I've taught hundreds of students over almost 20 years, and have loved helping my students learn to read and play, discover their own love of music, and conquer their fears of performing. I've been described by students as encouraging and fun, and my teaching style
is warm, positive, and relaxed. I have worked with many students, including some with learning disabilities, physical limitations, PTSD, and just plain ol' stage fright! I work with you to set your own goals, and I look forward to helping you reach them... It's what I love about what I do.

I began my violin studies at age 9, with my humble public school string program. I continued through high school and into college, playing and singing with auditioned district ensembles, school musicals, and chamber choirs, coming in as runner up in my high school's concerto competition, and performing twice in Carnegie Hall. I studied opera, vocal pedagogy, and passed my piano proficiency exam from the advanced class.

In 2003, I earned my violin performance degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and soon after, joined the Kansas City-based Celtic folk group, Tullamore. I have enjoyed 13 seasons with this lauded regional group, playing countless esteemed Celtic festivals across the country and embarking on five international tours of Ireland and Scotland, as well as a Caribbean cruise hosted for our fans. Our sixth international tour is scheduled for 2019 in Scotland.

In 2014, I relocated to Hampton, Virginia, where I auditioned for the Hampton Roads Philharmonic, and currently play as a first violinist.

From 2015-2018, I had the joy of fiddling and singing with Brackish Water Jamboree, an award-winning Americana band, featured on NPR's Blue Plate Special and Out of the Box series with Paul Shugrue, and host of the NorFOLK Festival.

Throughout this time, I have enjoyed teaching a full and enriching music studio of students: hosting recitals, open mics, and ensemble rehearsals, and watching students achieve goals they didn't know were even possible. I continue to teach online via Skype, Zoom, and Take Lessons Classroom, and I look forward to working with you to accomplish your own musical aspirations!

My son took lessons with Rachel mostly online and sometimes in person. She was excellent at challenging him and letting him persue his interest in music, not just a book of lessons that sound "babyish". He learned some music theory, proper technique, form, and the fundamentals for lifelong playing. Few instructors can inspire a kid to want to sit in front of a webcam but Rachel can. She is an excellent instructor for all age levels.

Students are expected to own a mandolin so he or she can have a mandolin to practice with under the guide of the instructor. Mandolin is very painful at first (especially for non-guitarists), so you will experience pain in your fingers if mandolin is your first string instrument, but it is extremely common to experience pain while learning any string instrument.

Most materials will be provided by me except for the mandolin. As students, I want you to enjoy the instrument. Most people cannot find out if they are interested in the instrument until they had learned it for awhile, so please feel free to research more about mandolin before you start.

About Easton
I was a music student at UC Riverside, and I am a transferred student at East Tennessee State University and my concentration is music education. I teach beginner students and intermediate level students guitar, mandolin and piano. My lesson plan heavily concentrates on theories, sight reading, and performing.

My guitar lesson has three parts: chords, flatpicking, and theory. This lesson is designed for students who want to learn to play guitar as fast as possible. Students will be able to gain the proper technique to excel at the instrument in a short time. The theory aspect of guitar would focus on tabs and music staffs.

My piano lesson has two parts: theory and technique. And again, this lesson will give students the necessary knowledge and technique to execute a perfect piano performance. Students will gain valuable skills tha
t are required to be a musician.

My mandolin lesson has three parts: chords (chop notes), flatpicking, and theory. Students with interest Bluegrass music are highly recommended to take Mandolin lesson because it is such a fun instrument to play! Former guitarists are welcomed to take Mandolin lessons to discover the beauty of this instrument

I teach around the Tri-Cities plus some nearby locations (including Asheville, NC). I mainly travel to students, but I also provide classes online. I give free first lesson to students to see if I am the right match for the student!

I am from the Bay Area of Northern California, and I've taught extensively in Southern California. I relocated to Tri-Cities (Northeast Tennessee) because I transferred school from UC Riverside to ETSU to pursue Music Education, a program that UC Riverside does not offer.

NOTE: If you are in Asheville area or Knoxville area and are interested in lesson with me, feel free to contact me. If you are in Asheville NC (metro area) or in Knoxville area (metro area), I will only do one-hour lesson or more.

you can expect to learn how to play Italian and folk songs. Very beautiful as well as easy and fun.

About Steve
Yo hablo Epanol y Ingles y puedo conducir los leciones en Espanol.

My name is Steve and I enjoy playing/teaching guitar. I am patient with students. All I ask is that you make sure you have the time to study and practice daily for it is a commitment. I teach beginning and intermediate classical finger style guitar as well as electric/rock/blues and chord/scale theory. We can learn songs in their entirety with all details present. Learn classical, blues, classic rock songs (Note: for beginners, after we have gotten through the blues a little) metal (If you have a locking tremolo, you might have to make adjustments on it to facilitate the lower tunings usually used in metal nowadays but I can definitely help you with that.) After 20 years of playing and a BA in Music, I know how to break down the mandolin and teach it to anyone willing to learn. I take the 80/20 approach to learning mandolin and will get you up and playing in no time. If you are tired of trying to figure out how to learn mandolin online or you feel stuck at your current level, then I can show you the most effective and efficient way to get your playing to the next level. Lessons will teach you the following:

* songs you actually want to play
* how to read music and tablature
* music theory tailored to suit your needs
* composition and improvisation
* performance practices and music history
* how to play solo pieces and jam with your friends

About Justin
Like most guitarists, I had always wanted to play the guitar as a little kid. Luckily, my parents finally caved to the request (ok ok, incessant begging) and I began my guitar journey at the age of 11. After now 20 years of playing and 12 years of teaching, I am excited to share my experience and thoughts about how to learn music and guitar.

My journey with the guitar has taken me from the electric rock of Jimi Hendrix, to the shredding of Joe Satriani, then the otherworldly sounds and speed of Al di Meola, and, finally, to the broad world of classical guitar, Flamenco and world music. Over the years, I have compiled a set of skills, techniques, and theories from all corners of the musical globe to help teach students the fastest path to guitar mastery. My goal is to show you how to master the fundamental skills of guitar in order to
play in any style and ultimately create your own music.

Justin is an excellent teacher!! He is a master guitarist, always punctual, very courteous and gives 100% to my lesson. I am learning classical guitar and jazz guitar with him and I am delighted with the progress I've made in just a few months. I am playing beautiful songs and before his lessons I could not play any classical guitar songs at all. Justin tailors the lessons to help me learn the songs I am excited about learning to play. I most highly recommend him as a teacher for any style guitar. Amazingly he also teaches ukulele and mandolin too! He has a degree from Cal Poly in music and guitar and has over 20 years teaching experience. If you really want to learn how to play guitar easily and quickly, take lessons with him!

My lessons are focused on building foundational techniques that can be applied across genres and playing styles. From picking technique that lays the groundwork for intricate melodies and expressive tremolo, to fretboard work that allows for a wide array of chords, you'll learn solid skills to allow comfortable play with any group.

About Coleman
Coleman first picked up a mandolin at 9 years old, and knew it was the instrument for him! Ten years later he was tremoloing through dance halls across Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula with a folk music band. Now he's settled down as an attorney in the Sacramento area, and is ready to pass on all he's learned to you!
