If you want to really rock on the drums I can get you started. I have MANY years of playing, performing, and teaching experience. Want to learn to play your favorite songs? And hopefully develope your own style! Let's rock!

About Thomas

I have been playing drums for over 47 years. For 16 years I played and performed professionally with my band Black Widow USA. We toured the US several times in support of our two internationally released CDs. For about 30 years of my time behind a drum set I had given drum lessons on and off. But b

This is our first Drum instructor and we are thrilled with Thomas. He is patient, kind, and enthusiastic about teaching. His approach is positive in nature, meeting the student where they are at, takes their interest as the lead, and starts teaching there. My 11 year old son really likes him too! We go to our 4th lesson this afternoon.

These lessons were great. Regarding drums, I was an absolute beginner, and Tommy's lessons turned out to be an excellent jump-start. I used to play keyboards and guitars before, and I enjoy picking up by ear rather than reading notation, so I really liked informal and 'non-notational' way the lessons went. There was no hard notation drill, and yet Tommy had covered most rudiments, basic techniques, and patterns needed to rock in about 10 lessons. I'd recommend this for anyone who doesn't know how to hold sticks but want to get introduced into rock drumming.

I have been teaching drum for 22 years. I have an earned Masters degree in music and enjoy teaching students of all ages. I am happily married with 5 children at home--4 of them are musicians as well (the youngest is 4).. Students will quickly learn not only the basics of music theory, but will be playing songs as early as their first lesson. It is extremely rewarding watching students have fun, excel, and fall in love with making music. I look forward to working with you.

Whether you are a beginner inspired to learn the drumbeat of your favorite song, or you've been playing for years but just can't seem to make further progress on your own...I've got you covered!

I have taught drum lessons for over 20 years to students of all ages. I care deeply about helping students reach their goals on the instrument, and I never cease to be amazed at the beauty and creativity involved in making music.

My background in a nutshell: I have a degree in music with a focus on percussion and composition from a major university, I've studied with some of the greatest drummers in the world, and I lead and compose the music for a jazz quartet in New York City.

Are you ready? Let's get started!

About Jesse

I have a bachelor's degree in music (percussion & composition) from the University of Minnesota, where I studied percussion with Fernando Meza, jazz drums with Phil Hey, and music composition with Judith Zaimont. I also studied for several years with the renowned jazz drummer Dave King (The Bad Plu

As an intermediate drummer, Jesse's lessons were a perfect fit for me! I've been with him for about two years now. He's an experienced and skilled musician, but more importantly he's patient, motivating, and overall just a great teacher. I always feel like I'm getting my money's worth when going to his lessons. My skill level and enjoyment level of drumming have dramatically increased since beginning studying with him. I have no plans to quit taking lessons with Jesse anytime soon!

Jesse is a great drums instructor and musical mentor. He has a great set-up for teaching drums online, and a cozy home studio in Morningside Heights if you prefer in person instruction. His hourly rate is the best deal you'll find on Manhattan. I previously paid $150-200 per hour for college instruction, and Jesse's teaching is as good or better than any college instructors. He is clear, friendly, patient, and able to cater instruction to both the ability and aspirations of his students.
Peter
Jesse is a true professional, a technician, and an artist. And he yearns to see his students level up. I love his taste in music! I wish I could receive his tutelage more often.

"James is a reliable instructor. He always meets at the scheduled time, and instructs with patience and persistence. Our son has been a student for 8 or 9 years now, and likes Jame's style of teaching. Our son has learned many techniques for playing drums, starting with simple beats. James is well liked and respected. For 11 years James instructed our oldest son on the drums. When the boys started showing an interest in piano, we bought a keyboard for them, and James started teaching them the basics of piano.
Currently James instructs our youngest son on drums and keyboards - rotating each week.
When our son wants to go over something he's been learning at school in his Advanced Keyboarding class, James has been a great help in this area!"

8 Sight Reading Practice Tips for Drummers

As a drummer, you might be faced with sight reading as you practice and audition. Here, San Diego, CA teacher Maegan W. shares her tips for sight reading practice...   There are two types of drummers: those who read music, and ones who don’t.
