Ms. Lee has been teaching me piano and violin for almost a year now. I've gone from a complete beginner to being able to play some of my favorite pieces. She has a really great personality and makes the lessons fun but at the same time really clear. I rarely get confused and don’t feel as frustrated as I did with other teachers!

I've known Luisa as an incredible session musician and player who will be able to bring you too the top level as a player of the violin. She is the ultimate professional with a great sound and very very kind

Ms. Lee is the best instructor ever!!!! When I started taking lessons with her, I was blown away by how much progress we made in one short lesson! She helped me grow so much! She is everything you would see in a perfect teacher: Kind, compassionate, knowledgable, and has the most amazing personality! She knows exactly what to do for every piece of music that I learn, and teaches me new techniques in every lesson that I carry on to every ensemble I participate in! Going off to my university next year, I am sad that I cannot have lessons with her when I leave. But I know that she was the one who got me there, who prepared me for college level of music at a university ranked number one in the nation for orchestral music. She helped make me who I am today, and I will forever be grateful to have her as a tutor and a friend! and to whom it may concern, I promise you that if you pick her as your tutor you are making the best decision of your life!

My aim as a teacher is to set students up for success with a relaxed, comfortable technique so that they can produce a beautiful sound soon and become expressive musicians. I believe that people love to do what they can do well! My job is to give students the tools for excellence.

With the knowledge passed down to me from my teachers from the Moscow Conservatory and my passion for helping others learn, I tailor what I teach to the goals, the personality, and the hands of each student. Whether you want to take a traditional classical path towards a professional career, or whether you just want to learn to play for fun, I can help you achieve your goals.

About Chaul

I have been playing the violin for over 24 years. I like to teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced students regardless of their age. I would prefer beginners to take at least one year of piano lessons prior to learning how to the play the violin. This way students can transfer basic music know

I enjoyed my first lesson and am excited to have such a fabulous teacher that sent me material and information to prepare for my first session. "Our family cannot speak highly enough of Miriam-Rose and her talent and teaching ability. She is still, by far, our 10-year-old daughter's favorite IU student violin teacher. Miriam-Rose has such a gift for being an incredibly patient and supportive teacher, yet she is firm and affective in her corrections. Our daughter learned so much in just the short time she was instructed by her. She is such a caring, friendly and fun person with lots of energy, and you can tell she loves what she does by the way she teaches. She will be a blessing to any student she instructs. We have two other daughters that also know her from the ballet world and she is known there as well for her talent, teaching and friendliness, which I think speaks volumes for the individual that she is. She is just an all-around wonderful and talented person who also happens to be a very gifted teacher. Students of any age will learn so much from her! We so appreciate what she has done for our family!!"

"Maureen keeps our child motivated

Our eleven-year-old child "J" has been taking violin lessons from Maureen for one year. J expected to pick up the violin and play right off the bat, but the most fundamental part of the process is learning to read the music. This was somewhat frustrating and disappointing to J at the time, but Maureen encouraged and reinforced the basics so that a solid foundation is established. She encourages regular practice time rather than demanding it, communicating to J that the reward to consistent practice is improvement. J feels great about the accomplishment. Self-discipline has been instilled through this process. We enjoy hearing the progression of skill level at practice time over the past year. The sound is lovely. J is allowed to choose music that J is interested in. While Maureen is pleasant and responds immediately to any scheduling communication with us - the parents - she is first and foremost J's teacher and communicates all homework to J (not us). J is becoming more independent and responsible through this journey, enjoying the instrument and appreciating the skill of accomplished musicians. Maureen has also helped J with vocal exercises for school performances, so she is a versatile instructor. J looks forward to going to the lessons with Maureen and is sad when there is an off week."

Violin Techniques: How to Get a Stronger Bow Arm

Do you want to improve your violin skills? Bow arm movement and direction are important violin techniques every beginner should master. Below, violin teacher Julie P. shares some tips on how to get a stronger bow arm...  In violin playing, the bow is what creates the sound. The bow arm has two basic movements: moving the bow vertically between strings, and moving the bow horizontally across strings. In order to achieve a beautiful tone, these movements must be understood and continua …
