About Timothy
I hold a Bachelors of Fine Arts from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. With over 15 years of experience, in both piano and voice, I've had to opportunity to perform, both domestically and internationally, with such great acts as Peter Nero and The Philly Pops, The Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, and many others. I served as lead singer, pianist, and co-songwriter for a number of independent bands covering numerous genres including, but not limited to, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Acoustic, and A Capella.

Since moving to Washington DC, I've immersed myself within the local music community playing a handful of group and solo acts. I currently maintain a home music studio well equipped with musical instruments and music technology. I'm constantly practicing, writing, and recording to improve myself as an artist.

My teaching style
is unique and individualized to each student. I set personalized goals to make every lesson a success, and I push my students to get the most out of themselves just like I do myself. I'm always enthusiastic and humor driven to create a personable learning environment for students of any age. Music is my life, and I'm so thrilled to have the opportunity to share my greatest passion with the hope that my students, too, will fall in love with music!

*** Lesson Details ***
My lesson environment is laid back and stress-free. I like my students to feel inspired and encouraged as they begin or continue their music education. I introduce fun and innovative ways to build students' musicianship and creativity while retaining classical methods to develop strong technique and proper performance and practice habits.

For beginners, we'll be exploring the basics of either piano, or voice, while focusing on proper technique, basic theory, and a solid skill set. Within 3-6 months, my students are able to read music and understand the language of it.

For intermediate-advanced, we'll focus on building musicianship and skill sets by furthering studies in music theory, varying styles of repertoire, proper techniques that will greatly improve your piano and/or voice abilities, songwriting, improvisation, and live performance skills.

I ask that my students come prepared to every lesson with the motivation and commitment to learn something new each week! Lessons are a fun and creative way to discover yourself as an artist and a person, so let's get started!!

*** Studio Equipment ***

Acting – I have taught all kinds of acting, including Audition Skills, Shakespeare, Stage, Film & TV, Dramatic, Comedic, whatever. I also have quite a bit of experience performing in all those arenas. I have a relationship with one of the best management agencies in the area, so my students get fast-tracked with her.

Voice – Anyone can sing. If you want to and have always thought you couldn't, you will be delighted when I prove you wrong. Training for the voice is pretty much the same, whatever style you are interested in. Then I'll coach you in your chosen style and we'll pick songs you like.

Singing beautifully is not enough. I can't tell you how many times I heard in grad school "beautiful voices are a dime a dozen." I will teach you how to OWN the song. That's what keeps people coming back.

Speaking – Every public spe
aker I know has lost their voice at some point, but not from talking too much. It's because they don't know how to use their voice properly. Learn that, and you need never lose your voice to over-use. That's easy to teach.

Writing – I have been a professional writer and editor for over eight years, with many books, articles, posts, newsletters, etc. to my name. I use – and teach – practical grammar, not just correct grammar. I can also help you make your words more powerful.

I've been taking lessons with Susan Scher for about two months now. I can easily say I've been impressed at how much I've improved. I look forward to lessons every week. I feel that soon enough I'll be able to audition for roles in film and television. If you live in the Baltimore area and are interested in voice acting or any acting in general. Contact her and go, you won't be disappointed.

I did not know what to expect when I signed up to take classes with Susan. I decided to take classes with her for two reasons: Her studio is not far from me and 2, the good reviews left by her clients. All I wanted was to learn the fundamentals and techniques about acting. Susan was excellent and very patient. She offered water in each lesson, which is also very kind. Her interpersonal connection brings a sense of comfort. Her studio is very neat and welcoming. I do not have regrets in my selections and I know you won't be disappointed too.

About Ron
I began my formal study of piano at the age of five. I also studied violin, viola and tap dance during my youth. A very close friend and I founded the Young Senators, a R&B dance band which played throughout the Washington DC Metropolitan are. The group eventually became the “back up” group for Motown’s Eddie Kendricks, of Temptations fame. Throughout my career, I've performed with some celebrated music and movie stars; Cab Calloway, Esther Rolle, Brock Peters and Cecily Tyson, to name a few.

In the late 90s, worked for Jordan Kitts Music, providing (group and private) piano instruction for 3 year old up to adult seniors. My lessons were designed to build cumulative sequences of musical experiences that fostered continuous growth in musical understanding, skills, and knowledge with a focus towards contemporary and traditional ke
yboard harmonies.
In 2000, I worked for the Jewish Primary Day School (Grades K – 6), where I introduced the conceptual structure of music, focusing on melody, rhythm, and harmony and their expressive and stylistic organization. Program objectives included: 1) ability to listen with discrimination, 2) ability to sing on pitch within a limited range, 3) ability to play simple rhythm and melodic instruments, 4) ability to interpret music through body movements, impersonations, and dramatizations, and 5) ability to associate symbols of musical notation with musical concepts.

Today, I perform professionally and provide private online and offline piano instruction for children and adults.

Ron has been my piano instructor for the past three years. I find him to be very knowledgeable in jazz as well as classical music. He goes above the allotted time to ensure your understanding of instructions, and maintains a professional demeanor at all times, even with wit in his oral approach. I would not hesitate to recommend him for piano instruction at all levels!

I've been teaching sitar since 2013 and my students have gone on to develop a love for Indian classical music and culture. Within the first few lessons, you'll be properly holding the sitar and playing notes and phrases. Then, we take particular ragas and begin layering in raga and tala theory and more advanced techniques. My greatest joy is taking a student who started with no musical experience and getting them to the point of successfully performing on stage with tabla accompaniment.

Matt is a joy to have as an instructor. He’s very experienced and knowledgeable in not just the sitar itself, but how best to teach it. He figures where you are at, what you need, and helps you to set realistic goals for yourself. I would highly recommend him as an instructor! Additionally, I really appreciated his flexibility and willingness to help me continue my lessons when I lost my job which necessitated a move across the country and he was willing to try online courses. I think you definitely need an in-person foundation but the online classes have been really great and I’m so glad we could continue our lessons!

About Allison
Thanks for stopping by! My name is Allison, and I'm a student with a passion for music!

I am a classically trained vocalist, pianist, and composer who has been studying music for 16 years. My abilities in ear-training and sight-reading have given me the perfect springboard to experiment with different musical techniques, and I have spent my time as a music student developing my own jack-of-all-trades style.

Piano students can expect to learn beginner tools such as basic sight-reading techniques and proper finger coordination to finding exciting ways to "fake" your way through a piece. I aim to give students an adaptable tool box that allows them to feel confident in multiple facets of piano-playing.

Vocal students can expect to approach their singing with a musician's ear, and gain the confidence to nail their next big audition
or voice recital. I aim to provide a leg up in sight-reading and ear training to give the student an advantage over their peers.

About Rebecca
Hello fellow flute enthusiast! My name is Rebecca and I've been playing the flute for over half my life! Music is basically part of my DNA so choosing to teach was an easy decision to make!

In addition to the flute, I also sing and play guitar. Outside of music, my interests include photography, acting, and dancing. Even with my wide range of interests, music is the home of my passion! It is my first love and I feel honored to spread my love for music with whomever is interested!

My first introduction to the flute was at age 12. I played in my middle school band! That was a lot of fun but I didn't get any serious flute training until I was accepted into the Duke Ellington School of the Arts! That experience was amazing! This is where I also began teaching. During my junior year, I began to give my fellow peers lessons. I had both f
lute students and also saxophone and clarinet students that were learning the flute! This was a fun experience for me!

After graduating high school, I went on to study the flute at the University of District of Columbia. From there, I transferred to American University and then finally graduated from Full Sail University. Throughout this journey I never stopped teaching, tutoring, and mentoring all ages on flute playing and technique!

As a teacher, I believe that every student is an individual. I believe we all have a unique way of learning. It's my mission to teach you in the best way that works for you. In the past, I have dealt with the "one for all" approach to teaching and I can honestly say, this method doesn't always work. For this reason, as a teacher, I promise to work with you to find which way works best for you instead of forcing you to conform to the way I have learned. We will work on building a strong foundation to flute playing, music theory, and music performance. We will work on proper technique to flute playing, flute maintenance, and I will do my best to help you explore all flute related topics you may have interest in.

Just like you, I am also a student too! I believe us teachers are always learning and growing. If you would like to go on this learning journey together message me to connect!

6 Tools to Learn Piano at Home
Piano may be one of the toughest instruments to learn, because of all the multitasking required! You have to be able to read two different musical lines simultaneously, and keep track of what both your left and right hands are doing, all while your foot works the pedals. While most schools have classes to teach students band instruments or stringed instruments, few schools offer piano instruction. This means that most piano students learn how to play at home and in private piano lessons, instead
