I primarily play the French horn, but I can teach basic fundamentals of trumpet playing to any beginning student, any age! Please reach out and I'll answer any questions you may have. Lessons will be catered to each student and you or your child will build a strong foundation that can be applied to all things in life!
We will use a 2-1 approach to constructive criticism, where for every possible improvement, we will say two positives. At times, we will use singing as a tool to figure out everything from melodies and rhythm. I also believe heavily in making music fun and enjoyable and loving our own sound. The types of repertoire we will explore include and are not limited to: solo music, etudes, calisthenics, and duets.

Hey everyone! My name is Sam Stout, and I am currently a trumpet performance student at the Peabody Conservatory. My primary teachers are Tony Prisk, second trumpet of the Philadelphia Orchestra and Billy Hunter, principal trumpet of the MET Opera Orchestra. I have also taken lessons from Andrew Balio (principal of the Baltimore Symphony), David Bilger (principal of the Philadelphia Orchestra), and Tom Hooten (principal of the LA Phil). Over these past few years, I have a developed a deeper and more accurate understanding of the fundamentals of the trumpet and what is the proper way of learning the instrument.
What I enjoy about learning and performing as a trumpet player is that you always have to solve problems but with the pursuit of creating beauty. Although it can be frustrating to experience problems in our playing, solving those problems is highly fulfilling as a student and teacher. If you decide to study with me, I will be fully dedicated to solving your individual needs.
About Sam
At this point, I am teaching beginner students mostly those starting in middle school/early high school although I am open to teach any age. My number one priority is improvement but also making sure learning the trumpet is fun. I believe the best way to learn and teach is through encouragement, re

The last four years I have been playing worship music for church services in Houston and Austin, TX. I feel like the Lord wants me to now teach the younger generation how to worship God with instruments. I started playing the trumpet in 6th grade and I was in the high school band for five years. I was in the All-Region Band every year from 7th grade through 12th grade and I once made it to Area while in high school. I play primarily hymns, but I am open to adding select anointed praise and worship songs. I think that hymns are a good starting place for those learning to worship God, since they are shorter songs and easier to play rather than something more lengthy and complicated. I'm very patient and I'm a trained and certified teacher as I used to teach and tutor high school science previously. Playing an instrument and worshiping God is something that should be fun and enjoyable, but also involves practice and hard-work. I look forward to working with you and your child, so

He is also fun, so he would be an excellent teacher especially for the young students. My son is 11 yr and he started picking things up from the first lesson. We would recommend Troy for beginners interested in becoming better trumpet players.
