As a bass opera singer and professional voice over artist, I am dedicated to creating a healthy and beautiful sound with my own voice and the voices of my students. I will not come into our lessons saying there is a single way to sing. In fact, many genres require a great deal of varying vocal techniques and stylized voices. What I will do is help to lay a foundation in healthy singing so that you feel comfortable singing any genre. We will start by ensuring that your breath and vowel placement feels comfortable and from there move into repertoire of your choosing or some that I recommend based upon your interests. You will leave your tenure with me empowered to continue your passion and career for singing long after your lessons end. Music is meant to be shared. Together, we will help you to share the music and passion that you hold so dear.

Excellent instruction for our first session, tailored exactly to where you are - and I’m a total beginner! Explained all the terms and theory that we’ll be working on, and is focused on finding out exactly what my natural voice does, and how to improve from there. Very excited to continue working with Matt!

Our 13-year-old son sings in the Philadelphia Boys Choir. He wants to transition into musical theater and Matt has gone out of his way to help my son with this singing, but also accessing opportunities to grow as a performer. Matt is a talented singer and teacher and goes the extra mile to help achieve dreams. Thanks Matt!

Everyone can sing. You may just not know how yet. I have taught hundreds of people who were sure they couldn't sing, had been told by others they were terrible singers and within an hour, maybe less, they realize they CAN! They just had to learn how.

And everyone SHOULD sing.

About Susan

I am an accomplished vocal coach and songwriter and currently work with a wide variety of singers from young beginners to professionals who look to develop through ear training, singing and songwriting. In a unique way I guide people to become better performers and musicians through the combination of voice, piano and composition. I also work with pianists and guitarists to help them use their instruments for better singing and ear training.

My hope is that all students will learn at their comfortable pace in ways specific to their learning style. In more than 25 years teaching experience, I've learned that students will excel in and find enjoyment within an environment fostering self-confidence and self-expression. Of particular interest to me is bridging student interests, intra-curricular, and other collaborative repertoire assignments with lessons. I will have accomplished my life's passion when practice rooms, recording studios, audiences and stages have past and present students who continue to love music and support the performing arts.

I specialize in teaching adult beginning singers, and currently teach college voice to non-majors, most of whom sing in contemporary styles of rock, pop, music theatre, and worship songs.

My lessons link student goals with positive outcomes - teaching voice is part method and part personal training/coaching. We work to build healthy vocal habits, production, and presentation of repertoire that fits and flatters the voice.

About Matt

I am a professional singer who has proficiencies in piano, organ, choral directing, musical analysis, and ear training/playing by ear. I currently teach college non-majors, and specialize in teaching adult beginning students.

Just starting lessons with Matt, but he seems very to have great knowledge about how to teach students to grow in their vocal skills. He is very enthusiastic and positive, but honest in his assessment of skills which is important to vocalists who truly WANT to improve their skills. The initial lesson experiences have been really beneficial. Looking forward to continuing lessons with Matt!

"Amazing Teacher! Easy to understand, fun, and fast improvement!

I've had quite a few singing teachers in the past and have always had a lot of trouble understanding a lot of the concepts - the voice is very hard to visualize. It can be frustrating.

With Arlys it's different. She has a way of using metaphors, simile, and simple and fun exercises to get you to effortlessly understand and be able to perform the technical aspects of singing. I've been singing with her for a year now and have drastically improved my range, mix, tone, pitch, and confidence. I never thought I'd ever get this far.

I highly recommend Arlys for any other beginner/intermediate students such as myself that are passionate about singing but are hesitant.

I take lessons online through Skype from Abroad, and she always does her best to make sure our lessons work with my schedule. The teaching environment is as good as it gets for online lessons."
