I have supplemented these areas of knowledge by studying Gaelic since 2007 and Clàrsach (wire-strung harp) since 2012. I have performed with the Potomac Valley Scottish Fiddle Club and the City of Alexandria Pipes and Drums since 2004, for weddings and Scottish Country Dances since 2006, and founded the Scottish Folk-Acoustic band The Devil's Tailors in 2008, and lead the only DC-area open Scottish jam session. I also participate in a living history unit reenacting the 1745 rebellion in the Highlands, leading me to study the music's historical co
My approach to Scottish traditional music is holistic; I feel it's important to experience how song feeds into instrumental music, and how the instrumental traditions interact with one another, and impart that broader view to my students. My focus is mostly on the folk traditions, though for bagpipe students, I teach the current and formal pipe band technique and repertoire as a foundation.
I have twice qualified for the US National Scottish Fiddling Championship, and was 4th place overall in Grade 4 Senior out of almost 850 pipers in 2006, and have been taking an extended hiatus from competition.

Special emphasis is placed on building and maintaining a strong classical music base, which is the foundation for all other styles and techniques found in music. Additionally, students are exposed to learning concepts in ear training, sight singing, music theory, music history, folk music and improvisation. This enables students to be exposed to other areas of music such as composing, arranging, conducting, etc., thereby giving each student the unique opportunity to branch out and explore endless opportunities.
All teaching is conducted in a supportive yet challenging environment. Each student is encouraged to think for themselves and develop their own judgment through the development of their ear and musical comprehension.
Student recitals I arranged once or twice a year to showcase my students talent and progress and encourage their love for music.
I also organize other activities for my students such as Master classes and Music mind games (for younger students). I have a group class "Building music and memory skills" designated for children age 4 to 6 (children learn basic concepts in music theory and ear training before starting playing an instrument).
I offer a half hour lesson for beginners, a 45 min. lesson for intermediate an an hour lesson for intermediate to advanced students. Above all, I strongly encourage enjoyment of music.
Music should be played from the heart with passion and excitement.

Christine is a professional vocal coach and piano instructor with an exceptional reputation. She is the owner of The Exquisite Voice, Inc. and resides in Old Town Alexandria.
She has over seven years of teaching experience and has taught hundreds of students, including the full spectrum of learning needs during this time (both vocal and piano throughout the DMV area). She is considered an expert in her field and maintains a very active studio.
Christine's unique approach to voice has allowed her to continue to help beginning to expert level students advance their technique with incredible results.
Christine is a master of vocal technique and specializes in vocal intonation. She teaches how the voice should perform from a wholistic approach by integrating the body to support the voice.
She has a phenomenal ear and knows what to listen for and then how to direct students during the process.
Christine is a dramatic soprano and is very confident and experienced with large instruments (that are more difficult to train for various reasons). Having an extremely rare and large voice herself has given her invaluable insight toward fully understanding all other voice types and the discipline necessary to achieve efficient technique.
Many teachers can be limited in their view and teach "their technique" as opposed to helping the student develop their own technique and what works best for them.
Developing technique in a complete and effective way leads toward discovering the full capacity of our instrument without compromise or compensation.
Students should expect to learn how to use breath direction that continues to connect and blend registers, modification of placement that creates cover, internal space with an open throat and sustained low larynx by using efficient breath and support from the body.
Her methods in vocal intonation translate directly and indirectly into all styles of legitimate singing, which she coaches many varying styles and will direct student toward appropriate rep. Students will learn the full potential of their instrument under her guidance. It is her belief that technique should lead toward one sounding natural, no matter the style.
Christine offers very traditional based vocal lessons with a focus on improving technique through practical exercises and song rep designed for each student's unique vocal needs. She will offer necessary guidance and adjustments to ensure the student's continuous development.
Her goal is for her vocal students to discover their authentic voice and to find freedom in their technique and most importantly their expression as artists.
Christine is also a highly sought out piano instructor for her ability to establish an exceptional foundation in beginning piano students and those who wish to continue their studies and build upon the fundamentals. She specializes in reading skills and excellent technique.

She teaches Russian technique, which allows for flexibility, strength and tonal beauty of musical lines. This technique can be applied to all styles of playing piano such as pop, jazz and is not limited to just the classical repertoire.

Christine also has an international recording career as an adult contemporary artist.

I've always wished I had played an instrument growing up; now that I'm stable, I decided to go for it! However, I was very nervous, considering I had no musical experience. Christine has been nothing short of encouraging. In addition, my 8 year old son is taking lessons with her. It is evident that she has a gift when it comes to teaching. She has constructed her teaching methods in a way that is suitable for all ages. Although I'm learning to play at an accelerated pace compared to my son, we're able to communicate and play together because of Christine's consistency with her teaching methods.
Christine's goal for all of her students is that they will leave with the confidence and ability to go out and teach others how to play the piano. I have over 8 years of experience in the choral music canon. While at JMU I participated in the Advanced Women's Chorus and was the soprano section leader and undergraduate leader of the James Madison Singers. I also have experience as Music Director and Choral Leader of the St Stephens UCC.
During my time at JMU I was the Music Director and arranger fir the premiere all-female acapella group Note-Oriety. My arrangement of JMU Note-Oriety's cover of Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj's"Bang Bang" was the winner of the Song of the Year at the 2016 CARA Awards in Boston, MA and I was blessed to be runner up in the country for Arranger of the Year. Additionally, my arrangement of JMU Note-Oriety's music video and cover of Beyonce's "Pretty Hurts" has amassed over half a million views on YouTube , was featured on USAToday, Buzfeed, FOX5 News and TEDTalk Charlotesville where I was a performer and speaker.
I also love and have experience singing and teaching other genres of music such as traditional and contemporary gospel music, pop music(I'm a huge pop culture junkie), jazz music, country music, R&B and neo soul music. My philosophy of teaching voice is that healthy classical voice technique can be adapted to all genres of music, always emphasizing safe voice practices. I'm very excited to start working with you and bring my blended musical experiences to you!
