I have a degree in music with a teaching certificate. I have been teaching cello privately for 10 years. Depending on the age of the child we will start with either Essential Elements or Suzuki cello book one. They will start with proper positioning and plucking. Once they have 8 notes down, we start bowing. As we progress, we will be doing scales, and etudes.

About Chris

I have been teaching private violin for over 20 years, and private viola/cello for about 10. I have taught in Charles and St. Mary's County Public schools. I am a member of American Strings Teacher's Association, National Association for Music Educators (Maryland Music Educators Association), and t

Ms Chris was great my daughter really enjoyed her first lesson. Ms Chris was easy to work with and made my daughter comfortable that she felt free to ask questions and make mistakes without worry. My daughter is looking forward to the next lesson.

If you’re looking for a dedicated, knowledgeable and patient strings teacher, you will love Mrs. Heins. Both of my sons have been taking lessons from Mrs. Heins for several years (one for viola and one for cello). They have learned so much under her instruction, such as earning All-County and All-State honors. They also practice their live performance skills twice a year during informal musical concerts. Mrs. Heins also offers participation in the Royal Conservatory Music Development program, which can earn your child credit for college. She is a gem and should you choose her, you won’t be disappointed.

Having 10 years of experienced cello teaching, I feel very comfortable helping my students understand the foundations of cello technique. I graduated with a Bachelors of Music from the music conservatory Cleveland Institute of Music, and got my Masters in Music from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music.

In addition, I completed a 2 year rigorous Suzuki Technique Pedagogy Program where I am now certified to teach all 10 levels of the cello books. I am confident in explaining any questions a student may have. I love to make practicing a game, so that way we are developing the proper skills but also challenging ourselves while having fun! Even I can understand that practicing can get tiresome and dull at times!

As a traveling musician who has performed all over the world, I feel it is important for students to appreciate all types of music. While classical training and technique are absolutely crucial to the beginning stages of a student's development, I like to show the ...

I had a great first lesson with Jessica. The lesson took place in a comfortable studio in her house. We discussed my goals and then reviewed where I am currently. She paid carefully attention to my body position with the bow and had several great suggestions on exercises to improve it. I'm already looking forward to the next lesson.

"I met Genevieve after listening to her amazing group, ATLYS, preform with the Holland Americas Cruise Line. I approached her and told her what an inspiration she was to me and found how genuinely kind and willing to help she was. After our vacation, I was able to continue emailing her. She gave the best advice, preparing me for concerts, recommending music, and even helping me with technique from a thousand miles away! Genevieve truly made me feel comfortable and inspired me to pursue cello further."

"Lucas is among the finest teachers I've worked with. As a colleague of his at a yearly summer music festival, I've seen him teach privately and coach chamber music. The ability to communicate effectively and precisely but also passionately and positively is rare, and Lucas makes use of it always. He's an outstanding teacher on a technical, musical, intellectual, and mentor level. Can't recommend him highly enough."

"As an adult beginner, I was very intimidated and fearful when I first took on cello lessons. My first online lesson with Megan was my first cello lesson EVER. She is a patient teacher who delivers high quality lessons. At the end of every lesson, I knew I received more than my money's worth. What really impressed me is that Megan really works to meet me where I'm at, not the other way around. She helps me with tips and techniques to support and challenge me as a student. I would recommend Megan for cello students out there! Beginners, you're in good hands!"

"Johnny has been a fantastic teacher for my 12-year old beginning cello player. He managed to keep even the introductory lessons (parts of the instrument, posture, etc.) engaging and now that she is actually making music it is even better. Not only is Johnny incredibly talented and knowledgeable, but he also has a knack for explaining concepts to beginners. My daughter truly looks forward to her weekly lessons!"

"I am 43 years old and was scared to take on such a difficult instrument but I really wanted to learn how to play the beautiful cello. I had my first lesson and am very happy with Claire. She is friendly, accommodating, patient, and explains her lesson in a clear and easy manner (as easy as you can get with the cello). I had a lot of questions and she was very open in answering all of them. Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
