I have been playing piano since the age of six. Originally classically trained, I made a change to learning Jazz after hearing it on the radio one night while still in high school.

I began my teaching career in 2007, providing private piano instruction to beginners at a small, privately owned music school in Laurel, Maryland.

After the school closed it's doors in the Fall of 2011, I continued working with many of the students privately. It is these efforts I continue to this day.

Having the opportunity to work 1 on 1 with students and see their progression and development on a week to week basis is a truly, rewarding experience that I feel fortunate to be a part of.

*** Lesson Details ***
Although the approach you take with each student will be different, basic standard requirements will consist of:

Ian is a wonderful piano instructor. My 6 year old has been with Ian for some time now and I must say his patience is exceptional. He teaches in ways that my son can easily remember and makes the lesson fun. My son always looks forward to his piano lessons and he has learnt a lot in 2 months. I have had some experience with piano instructors but Ian is exceptional. I highly recommend him as an instructor to other children

Mark has been a great teacher for this adult beginner! I take lessons in clawhammer banjo and ukulele with him, and his easy-going nature and skill in identifying ways to improve make it a joyful experience! Highly recommend.

Mr. Sylvester is one of the greatest. He is not just an amazing guitarist, but he is also very kind. He treats people with so much respect. He speaks to me and my mom so nicely. He is very patient. He has a deep knowledge of music and knows how to get the most out of even the least talented people (like me!). He doesn't ever get mad if you make a mistake or forget to bring your music notes. We were so lucky to find Mr. Sylvester.
Virginia
Mark is a talented musician who plays and teaches multiple stringed instruments. His lessons are always informative and supportive. They are driven by the student’s interest, so anything you want o learn— styles of music, how to do a particular technique, music theory— you can bring to class. And every now and then he organizes a recital— terrifying but great practice!

I hope to inspire, educate and connect your with your inner creative self. I use humor as starting a new instrument can be daunting. As a full time professional harpist and educator, I hope to give you the best musical experience possible.

About Jessica

Jessica introduced me to the harp and gave me confidence that allowed me to move with great progress, while really focusing me into the technique of the harp. She empathetically understands the needs of all of her students. Possibly my best music teacher I've ever had.
Helen
I'm happily surprised at how helpful on-line harp lessons have been. Jessica can see my hands, and she has provided great corrections in technique.
Michael
My daughter has been taking lessons with Jessica for six years (since she was 7 years old) . Jessica immediately developed a rapport with her and put her at ease to focus on enjoying the harp. As an instructor, she is extremely patient and kind. Also, she teaches at her harp store so it is very convenient for instrument maintenance such as getting replacement strings. Most recently, she has gotten my daughter performance-ready for several competitions and auditions. What we most appreciate is Jessica providing opportunities to expand her world through harp.

Playing the viola is unique - we don't play violin and we don't play cello, and although there are techniques we can learn from both, our instrument requires a very special technique and style that is all its own. As a professional teacher and international performer for over 20 years, my goal has always been to impart the joy and exhilaration that comes from playing and studying music, at any level. Whether an adult amateur looking to explore the instrument for the first time, or a student seeking extra assistance preparing for auditions, my experience can help provide the insight necessary for a rewarding and enjoyable journey. Hope to meet you soon!

I am an internationally performing freelance professional violist with over 20 years concert and teaching experience. I work primarily as an orchestral principal and chamber musician. I teach hornists of all ages, and have been teaching privately for 6 years! I have a music education and horn performance background and teach based off the learning styles that best meet a student’s needs. I have experience with teaching young and mature beginners, elementary-high school, and college. I love helping students prepare for college auditions and exploring different options as to how music can be a part of their life. A unique process I love for teaching : using my students’ favorite song or artist to build fundamentals on the horn!

About Emily

I have been playing the horn for 11 years! I have an undergraduate degree in Horn performance and music education from the Eastman School of Music where I was also nominated for and won a Performance Certificate. I continued on to become the teaching assistant for the Pennsylvania State University

I worked with Emily over the course of two years. During that time, I worked with her individually, in chamber music settings where she was the coach of the group, and in large ensemble settings. Emily is an incredible person, musician, and mentor and is capable of teaching students at all ages and levels. She's acquired a wealth of information through her studies with some of the best teachers in the field. She is dedicated and will ensure that you, as a student, learn how to play the horn correctly and have the best possible experience. I guarantee you will see incredible results upon working with her.
Ilze Brink-Button
I highly recommend Emily to teach any horn player at any level! She is an incredible player and has a beautiful rich tone all around the instrument. As a professional horn player in various orchestras and instructor at Cornell University and Binghamton University, I can honestly guarantee that you would be very happy to learn from her! She is a very kind person, but also very serious about teaching you to play the instrument correctly. She had been taught by the best teachers out there and you will learn to play the horn properly by doing all the fundamentals needed, but you will also have fun while learning from her! Emily is the best!

Emily is a colleague of mine in The Orchestra Now. She is a welcoming, curious, gifted and hard-working artist and teacher. Emily is always looking for how to further engage with students and audience members. She is a great musician to share a stage with and has a wealth of experience as a mentor to students of all ages and ability levels. Big thumbs up for Emily!!
