I am coming to the cello as a brand new beginner. I have play around with some fretted instruments, ukulele, banjo, etc. But Irina was super at getting me relaxed, focused on basics and encouraging me with small, but important mechanics and technical details. I have taken other music lessons like sax, so could compare. I totally enjoyed the start of my cello training.
Oh, btw, I'm retired and over 65!!!

I strive to treat each student equally no matter how advance the student are. My job as a teacher is to provide students a tool in life. Students will learn the way life works through the art of music. Should the students decide to pursue music or not in the future, I only hope that students will apply what they've learned in music to their everyday problem solving.

About Johnny

Johnny received his Bachelors of Music at the University of Alabama, under the tutelage of Carlton McCreery, and a Masters of Music at The Boston Conservatory with Andrew Mark. Johnny is experienced in teaching cello. His lessons are always passionate, musical, and informative. There are several aspects of his lessons that I'd like to share.

1. Full of Content: He delivers enough details of a new technique with simplification for an easy understanding.
2. Learning Curve: By breaking down and reorganizing the knowledge, he teaches new concepts step by step, from approachable actions to efficient actions.
3. Customization: He helps you find out a suitable solution to grow on the techniques based on your own physical and cognitive characteristics.
4. Experimentation: The correct ways he suggests you do is demonstrated by experimenting with different ways for comparison, which you would not only know what to do but know the reason behind it.

Cello is a beautiful yet complicated instrument. To enjoy it, a great mentorship is necessary and truly valued.

I am a fourth year cello performance major at the University of Georgia and have been playing the cello for over twelve years. I have experience performing and practicing in a variety of ensembles and genres (i.e. orchestras, chamber ensembles, jazz, rock/jam bands, bluegrass, pop). I plan to incorporate music theory and ear training into lessons to help my students become more familiar with their instruments and repertoire. I want to encourage innovation and creativity in each of my students so that they can feel comfortable approaching any musical opportunity.

About Jordi

I am in my final semester completing my degree in cello performance with a jazz minor (bass) at the University of Georgia. I have been playing classical cello for over twelve years and bass for three. While my musical upbringing primarily revolved around classical music, my main creative outlets in

Jordi has been incredibly helpful in guiding me on my cello playing journey! I especially appreciate that we have been able to tailor the lessons to my needs and interests. I am an adult beginner interested in learning a mix of classical and non-classical music, and I am grateful that Jordi is very competent playing and teaching multiple genres. It's awesome to have an instructor who plays music in multiple contexts; I feel understood! Lessons themselves are always great as well-- I leave class with a clear list of things to practice and a plan for how to practice each of those things. But even though the lessons are productive, the environment is always very relaxed and patient, and I think that has been really supportive of my progress. Thanks, Jordi! :)

I have been taking lessons with Jordi for over one year now and I can honestly say it has been one of the best choices I have made. My playing has improved immensely and his patient and kind way of explaining both practical techniques and theory makes the learning fun.

I cant recommend Jordi enough!

As an adult learner with no prior cello experience (or music education at all, for that matter), I was somewhat skeptical of taking remote lessons. I started working with Jordi 8 months ago, and I can say with full confidence that my concerns have completely disappeared. His deep knowledge and passion of music became immediately clear at the beginning of our lessons as he patiently walked me through the basics of cello technique and music theory. Since then, he has continued to push me to improve myself, and my enjoyment of playing continues to grow along with my skills. While I still have a long way to go, I couldn't be happier with the progress I've made as a direct result of Jordi's instruction. I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone searching for a fantastic cello instructor!

An experienced performer and teacher, I have been teaching privately since 2014. I am a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and a former member of the Indianapolis Symphony. I usually work with intermediate and college students, but I have also worked with beginners.

I am currently an Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium and have an active performance career, which is why I now primarily teach online. My teaching philosophy relies – as it did with my own professors – in sharing my personal connection with the music and giving guidance that will both make you a more solid player technically, as well as a more capable and expressive musician.

I use the same approach, regardless of whether you are pursuing music as a career or you're doing it just for the love of it (although I do also give advice on navigating the academic and professional landscape to those who want it). My main goal at the end of the day, is to help my students find a deeper ...

When I first went to Mr. Mowitz, I hoped to improve my cello technique above all else. As a result, Mr. Mowitz prescribed me a customized list of repertoire to practice that would help me focus on technique including the Popper etudes, the Bach suites, and the Cossman exercises. However, to ensure that our lessons would not purely be technique-based, Mr. Mowitz helped me understand the musical beauty behind more lyrical pieces such as the Boccherini cello concerto or the Saint Saens cello concerto while also demonstrating the techniques we'd been practicing in application to these concertos. Mr. Mowitz never assumes a fully comprehensive understanding of cello technique and musicality even for his intermediate-advanced students (which I would have considered myself as when I started to learn from him) and thus always has something new to teach as much as he reminds his students of the importance of certain fundamentals like a relaxed body when playing. I would say with full confidence that my cello playing significantly improved under Mr. Mowitz. His teaching helped me gain access by audition to advanced musical opportunities such as performing in the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and participating in the Snitzer Quartet in the Settlement Music School Advanced Study Program. These opportunities, in turn, and the musical "arts supplements" for cello that I eventually made furthermore helped me gain admission into schools including Harvard and Stanford, on what I would consider was largely a technical base taught to me by Mr. Mowitz. I truly hope that more people are able to experience the blessing of Mr. Mowitz's teaching!

Zachary is a fantastic cello teacher, I would highly recommend him to students of all levels. He is incredibly patient, and his passion for music teaching and performance is very infectious. He is very good at communicating nuanced ideas, both technical and musical, and can demonstrate them with ease. It’s been a great pleasure working with him!

Wonderful!

Samantha D. is wonderful. My kids play so well for only 1 year'sworth of lessons. I would highly recommend her to anyone! I am blownaway by the music that comes out of the Piano from a 7 and 11 year old.My 11 year old signed up for her first music competition at school. Ifyou told me one year ago I would have girls playing a piano, I would notbelieve you. I truly thought they would quit after a couple of months. Not the case. They are musically talented and still love it. Thanks toSamantha D! They are now thriving in the in-school music program.Thank you, TakeLessons, for filtering out the best teachers. When achild has a small window of interest, you have to grab it the rightway...the wrong teacher would not have given me these results.

Highly Recommend her!

My daughters (10, & 6) have only had three lessons with Samantha! They love it. Her nature is kind and welcoming. She can tell how much they can handle so doesn't overwhelm them with too much theory or pieces to play. She strikes a nice balance. My 10 year old started composing her own song when she became bord with the beginner book! Samantha has added to this excitement and changed her teaching style to match my daughters learning style. My daughter was beaming! Samantha has taught her how to take the next pieces of theory and add it to her song. She also ordered music my daughter enjoys like Selena Gomez. My 6 year old is excited every week and doesn't want to be late. My husband and I thought this would be just another thing to start and quit. So far they are going strong!

"Great teacher. Glad we found her.

Because my husband and I are using the same email address for these lessons, I had to write this review under my husband's "review nickname," JimSong. I am a female and a beginning cello player.Joann is an accomplished symphony cellist. Yet she is able to help a beginner like myself.
She is a very knowledgeable, understanding, and patient teacher. I am learning a lot about the cello and have been motivated to work at improving my skills. My husband is also taking singing lessons. Glad we found Joann.

Sincerely,
TerryCello"

She has a passion for teaching and always made me feel uplifted after a lesson, eager to get back home to put into practice what she has taught. I am an adult student so perhaps a little more of a struggle than if I were much younger, but she never made me feel discouraged even on my worst days. She teaches from the heart and is an amazing cellist. I feel so fortunate to have been guided by her and will continue to play hopefully untill I can no longer hold the cello!"

"Corey is the single biggest reason I stuck with music and was eventually accepted to several notable music conservatories including the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University and Oberlin Conservatory. I began studying with Corey at the age of 9, and he made the entire learning process exciting and engaging. His enthusiasm for music is contagious for students at all levels, and his expertise in guiding his pupils through the extremely complex process of learning a stringed instrument is unparalleled. Corey brings decades of pedagogical and professional experience to each lesson, and is always eager to impart this wisdom on his students. The seemingly small corrections to form reduced fatigue and improved my playing. She was always great at communication. The best part for me was she did not insist I as an older adult learner practice from an elementary book. She suggested interesting pieces and studies that challenged me without overwhelming. Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …

What are the Hardest Cello Pieces? How to Get from Beginner to Advanced Player

As a beginner I often told myself I would know I am a really great cellist when I could play Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee at full speed. To my young ears, this simply had to be one of the hardest cello pieces with its high range, chromaticism, and famously fast tempo. As my musical career continued I worked on these and other skills to reach a point I could begin learning the piece confidently, and it was only a matter of time before I achieved my goal. Of course, this wasn’ …

Is My Cello Too Small? How to Know You've Found the Right Fit

At some point, your young cellist will grow out of their instrument. Growing out of an instrument is an awkward time for everyone involved and it is not something that happens suddenly. More often than not, finding that it is time to upgrade to a larger instrument is a slow realization that something is wrong in the musical force. If you can consult a professional, please do so! This decision is beneficial for the long run although it presents its own challenges upon the switch.  What Cell …
