Ukulele Lessons in Issue, MD

With the current COVID-19 virus crisis, I have been shifting all my students to online classes. Check out my pictures to see my online classroom set up, or feel free to send me a message if you have questions! :)

I structure most lessons according to the following:
- Basics of ukulele
- Understanding chords and chord charts
- Strum patterns
- Finger picking
- Songwriting (optional)

My primary goal as a teacher is to present musical material in a way that keeps students excited about what they are learning. Even with absolute beginners, I will have a student playing actual songs that they are interested in as quickly as possible. Along with way I include fundamentals such as scales, strength-building exercises, rudiments of theory, and ear training.
I also use interactive music websites to introduce students to concepts of music theory.

Lessons with Michael begin with simple chord shapes and strumming to start a students journey quickly to learning songs. Ukulele is a less-physical instrument compared to other stringed instruments and heavily prevalent in modern popular music, thus making a great instrument for young students.

Students can expect to be playing a full song by the end of the first lesson while learning their way around a ukulele with building chords, strumming patterns, tuning, and proper technique. Anyone and everyone can learn to play the ukulele!

With frets that are smaller and closer together, the ukulele is a wonderful introduction for kids (and adults) who are interested in learning and instrument. Lessons are fun and geared toward maintaining rhythm patterns and building upon existing skills.

Learn the note names on each string, learn chords, and learn how to play songs that the student chooses to learn. I can also teach theory and ear training if the student wishes to do learn that as well. :)
